An Advent Call for Anti-Racism

Hosted by Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis Catholic Social Teaching principles inform both our charity and social justice efforts at Catholic Charities every day. How can the history and foundation of this tradition ground us in our work for racial justice? What does the “season of giving” mean in terms of social action? Where can we find intersections in our values and racial equity? Date: Tuesday, December 15 Time: 7:00 – 8:30 PM Format: Zoom Virtual Workshop Facilitator: Mike Rios-Keating, Social Justice Education Manager for Catholic Charities.

Catholic Services Appeal Foundation

THANK YOU to those who have already made a pledge to the Catholic Services Appeal Foundation of St. Paul & Minneapolis (CSAF). This independent non-profit organiza-tion works to benefit 20 Collective Ministries of the Archdiocese. With participation from 414 donors to date, St. Odilia Parish has pledged $154,857 to CSAF. We have reached the initial

target goal of $106,793.00. If we achieve our parish pledge goal of $160,000, St. Odilia will receive a rebate equal to what was received in 2019, which will support our own parish ministries. If you have not yet given your gift in support of the 2020 Catholic Services Appeal Foundation Campaign, we ask you to prayerfully consider God’s gifts in your life and consider making a pledge. Please remember that our parish also benefits. Envelopes for the 2020 Catholic Services Appeal Foundation (CSAF) are available in the kiosk by the parish office or visit https://csafspm.org/givecsaf/ to contribute online.

Thank you for your consideration of this request and for your partnership in supporting those most

in need.

heart—Why am I here? What's life all about? What hap-pens when we die?—and guides you through the great big story of everything, as astrophysicists, psychologists, neuroscientists, artists, chemists and professors point to one big (surprising) conclusion: Jesus Christ, and the Cath-olic Church. Year of St. Joseph The Archdiocese will be observing a Year of St. Joseph, beginning Dec. 8, 2020. Archbishop Hebda wrote, "On that date, the Church

Universal will be marking the 150th anniversary of Pope Pius IX’s proclamation of St. Joseph as the Patron of the Universal Church. Our hope is that the Year of St. Joseph will be a source of renewal in our local Church, most especially as we continue our preparations for the Synod of 2022."

Year of Saint Joseph Prayer Heavenly Father, Who gave St. Joseph to Jesus and Mary As protector and guide, Grant that our Archdiocesan Synod, Under his protection and guidance, May help us discern your direction for our Church. May we listen as he listened, Trust as he trusted, Obey as he obeyed, Receive as he received, Love as he loved, And share in his life of devotion to Jesus and Mary. Amen. St. Joseph, pray for us

The Advent Sharing Tree ~ 2020 The Sharing Tree is in the Courtyard and ready for you to take an ornament and fulfill the request for either a Cub or Aldi’s Card, a Gas Card, or a Target Card which will then be used to help parishioners or community members who need assistance. Since the Courtyard is not frequented as much as in years past, this year we will have a basket in the back of church in addition

to the Sharing Tree in the Courtyard. The basket will have some of the same ornaments which the children have made requesting gift cards. As we wade through this winter, you may know of others who might be hurting even more than many of us. So thank you in advance for continuing to help those who need some assistance. May you continue to see Christ in one another, show the Christ who is with-in you and share His love through your acts of kind-ness and generosity. May God keep you safe and may you grow strong as you see the wounded Christ in those who are hurting and reach out to help.

Your Sharing Tree gifts may be returned to the parish office, placed in the collection basket, or you can make a donation online at www.stodilia.org under “Give Online” tab. Proceeds will be used to purchase a gift card for someone in need. ~Blessings, the Pastoral Care Council and the staff at St. Odilia

FEED MY STARVING CHILDREN UPDATE The Feed My Starving Children Coon Rapids facility has resumed volunteer food packing. They have instituted significant changes to their packing process in view of COVID-19. The relevant information can be found on their website. Twice, small groups of parishioners have again assisted in packing food under the new protocols. Another packing date has been scheduled for volunteers from our parish. If you would like to volunteer to pack food for shipment to some of the world’s most vulnerable children, please join us for the morning shift on Tuesday, December 15. (One of the changes made is to limit work groups to no more than 5 people, however we can divide into as many groups of 5 as necessary for our volunteer contingent.) This shift is 9:00 to 11:00. As in the past, you may register directly via the FMSC website (www.fmsc.org). At their Home Page, select the Volunteer button at top right and then scroll down to “Looking for a Specific Group” (right side of screen). Search by entering our group name: ‘St Odilia Church’ in the search entry box and clicking on “Search Groups”. Then click ‘Join Group’ and sign in, or create an account to register your name. For assistance in registering or if you have any questions, please call Michael Bronk at 651/429-9015. Volunteers will meet at the facility.

Velar, quiere decir estar despier-to mientras otros duermen.

©LPi

DECEMBER OUTREACH (Green Envelopes): Retirement Fund for Religious

Nearly 30,000 elderly sisters, brothers and religious order have spent their lifetimes educating the young, tending the sick, and ministering to the needy. Today, they pray for a world that is hurting.

Across the United States, religious communities lack the financial resources to meet the retirement and health-care needs of their aging members. Many elder religious worked for many years for small stipends, leaving a large gap in retirement savings. At the same time, the number of religious able to serve in compensated ministry is rapidly diminishing. By 2029, retired religious are projected to outnumber wage-earners by nearly three to one. As a result, only 6% of religious communities are adequately funded for retirement.

In December, your green envelope donations will benefit the Retirement Fund for Religious. Your gift helps these communities bridge the gap, offering support for medications, nursing card, and other necessities.

Please be generous as you remember religious retirees and support those who have given to others for a lifetime.

NOVEMBER Contributions: Debt Reduction November special envelope donations to benefit our Debt Reduction efforts raised 2,435.00. Thank you! Your generosity allows us to pay down the principal from our building expansion loan, resulting in faster payoff and significant interest costs savings. We appreciate your continuing support!

DID YOU MISPLACE YOUR ENVELOPE? You can still give to the Retirement Fund for Religious. Just indicate “Religious Retirement” in the memo space of your check or make a donation online by using the QR Code or visiting our website and click the “Give Online” tab.
