From the desk of Fr. Jim
Well I have Good News and Bad NewsThe
Bad news is because of the Jerry Sandusky scandal,
there has been a change in the Pa State law for the
protecting of Children. That’s not so bad because pro-
tecting children is always good, but the law now re-
quires everyone who is around children be finger-
printed. That’s the tough part. Fingerprinting no longer
involves ink. It is done on a computer screen. This
can be done at any police station. The diocese is try-
ing to get such a machine so it may do the fingerprint-
ing at different and more convenient locations. This
applies to all volunteers and employees who have
gone though the checks that have become the norm
in the Church. The Fingerprinting will need to be done
by June 30, 2016. The Good news is if a volunteer
has lived in the State of Pennsylvania for 10 years or
more one simply needs to sign a document attesting
to this and one does not need to be fingerprinted.
This document is available in the rectory office from
Becky. It will need to be signed by June 30, 2016
also. All of this just adds one more layer of protection
for all children, thank God.
On to a happier topic...As I told you last year
this year’s 10pm Christmas Mass will be broadcast by
KDKA. So as not to confuse people (which happened
last year despite my best efforts) please keep in mind
that no matter what KDKA may advertise and what
may be said on the Morning of Dec. 24th in an inter-
view with me, the Mass is actually going to be cele-
brated at 10pm at Most Holy Name. It will be recorded
and broadcast at 12 midnight on KDKA. The Choir will
be singing at this Mass and I hope that we have a
nice representation of the people of both parishes to
make for strong singing and responses for the praise
of God and the witness of the faith to any who would
be listening to the broadcast. Rob Pratte and I believe
Fr. Ron Lenguwin will provide commentary for the
broadcast. The broadcast is underwritten by Rome
Monument. Thanks to Rome for their generosity which
allows this to happen.
May the anticipation of the of the coming feast
of Christmas fill you with the joy of the angels who
sang Jesus coming. Pax,
Fr. Jim
Eucharistic Adoration & Veneration
of the Relic of St. Nicholas
at St. Anthony's Chapel
On Sunday, December 6th at 3:00 pm, we will
begin to pray the Church's evening prayer before
Christ in the Eucharist. The Blessed Sacrament
will be exposed in the monstrance at the begin-
ning of evening prayer and the service will con-
clude with Benediction, Christ imparting His
blessing to us in His Eucharistic Presence. Fol-
lowing the service, the faithful who wish to do so
will have the opportunity to venerate a relic of one
of the saints. For December, it will be the relic of
Saint Nicholas whose feast day is December
6th.

Help The Ladies Of Charity Fill
The Underwear Bin The Ladies of Charity Ministry of St. Aloysius and Most Holy Name is holding a drive for the home-less men at Northside Common Ministries Pleasant Valley Shelter. The Pleasant Valley Men’s Shelter accommodates the needs every night of the year of 25 men who are homeless The Shelter opens daily at 4:30 p.m. and provides residents with safe, secure sleeping quarters, a hot shower, and a warm evening meal. The Di-rector has asked for our help with underwear for the men. UNDERWEAR MUST BE NEW. He has requested white briefs (also known as Tighty Whities) sizes 32 through 48. No box-ers and no colored briefs. According to the Di-rector, there is too much confusion when there are choices of styles and color. They are also asking for donations of long thermal underwear – white – all sizes – small through XXL. If you are unable to shop, a monetary donation can be made and the Ladies of Charity will shop for you. Cash or checks payable to Ladies of Charity can be dropped into the bin also. Look for the bin at St. Aloysius and Most Holy Name. Thank you!

A Family Perspective By Bud Ozar - Today’s gospel shows John the Baptist and parents have similar vo-cations. Like the Baptist, parents are asked to make “rough ways smooth” and to “prepare the way of the Lord” for their families. This Advent ask: “Does my life hinder or help my family to know Jesus?”
St. Vincent de Paul Society - In today’s Gospel John the Baptist urges us to “Prepare the way of the Lord,” and this is what Advent is all about. We are called to help prepare the way of the Lord by making the real meaning of Christmas come alive in our own hearts, in our family and to reach out to those in need. Please support the work of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that together we can help the suffering poor cele-brate Christmas.
