participants in the Division 4 Lower Peninsula 2014 Michigan
High School Athletic Association Cross Country State Finals.
The finals were held on November 1, 2014, at the Michigan

many different cross country meets. His season was filled with
many great accomplishments, and he continued this pattern
during the Cross Country Finals. He finished with an overall time
of 16:31.8.
He qualified for the state finals by placing 3rd
out of 90 Cross

2014.
Fulton Schools is very proud of Bohdan Hartman and his many
accomplishments in Cross Country.
On October 10th
, Fulton

Gregg Jones and Emily Fife
as our 2014 Homecoming

Fulton Schools
Homecoming Week was
once again an exciting time
for the student body. They
were filled with enthusiasm
and school pride throughout
the week. All three school
buildings participated with
dress-up days, daily class
competitions, a school wide
bonfire celebration, and
assemblies.
The week included many
student council activities
during the school day, and
on Friday it culminated with
the Community Parade and
football game.
Senior,
Bohdan Hartman
The Pirate Football team
hosted the Potterville
Vikings, which they
defeated 45 – 12. The
Pirates were 6 and 3 for
regular season play.
Despite the cold weather,
the spectators enjoyed
watching Gregg Jones and
Emily Fife being named
the Homecoming King and
Queen for 2014.
Once again, the staff and
students did a wonderful
job preparing and making
Homecoming a time to
remember. A special thank
you goes out to Mrs. April
Kaputska for all of her hard
work in planning and
directing the Homecoming
Parade that took place in
Middleton on Friday
afternoon.

On November 10th, six Fulton student athletes attended the Michigan High School Athletic
Association, (MHSAA), Sportsmanship Summit at the Crowne Plaza in Grand Rapids.
Students were nominated by the coaching staff and included both a boy and a girl from the
freshman, sophomore and junior classes. Attending were Kylie Slavik, Blake Batis, Savannah
Fuller, Zach Walden, Teagan Batis and Jayvin Wolfe.
This year's summit was focused primarily on cheering sections and how to make them a
positive aspect of the educational experience. Specific topics addressed included; theme
nights, game ideas, community involvement, fundraising, appropriate cheers and promotion of
the group. All topic discussions had one common direction, Good Sportsmanship.
The Fulton students were able to meet students from all over the state. They shared ideas with
one another on how things are done at other schools and brainstormed ideas to bring back to
our school.

National Honor Society Supports
Cancer Awareness
The Fulton Schools National Honor
Society (NHS) showed their support for
cancer research. The group and
advisor, Ms. Ballivian, held a week-
long event to make sure all students and
our community could get involved to
rid the world of cancer related illnesses
and/or deaths. They held assemblies,
games, T-shirt sales, and attended
athletic events to spread the word and
to raise monies for the American
Cancer Society. Overall the NHS
raised $2500.00 for all of their hard
work. Fulton Schools is proud of our
students, staff and community for
working together to make a difference.

Fulton High School has named senior Emily Fife as the
2014 Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.)
"Good Citizen". Emily, the daughter of Jennifer Fife and
the late Mark Fife of Middleton, was selected by the
faculty of the Fulton High school as the senior who best
demonstrates the four qualities identified as criteria for
selection: Leadership, Dependability, Service and
Patriotism. Emily will be required to complete an essay
and application for future regional and state competitions.
Emily is a senior, and has been involved in athletics and
school activities throughout her last four years. She has
participated in Basketball, Cheerleading, Poms, Track,
Cross Country and Softball. She has earned eight athletic
letters in these sports and was also a Poms State Finals
team member.
Emily also stays busy by participating in the National
Honor Society, Student Council, and Vice-President of the
St. Martin’s De Porres Catholic Church Youth Group.
Emily is in the Top Ten of her class with a 3.89 G.P.A.
This has earned her Fulton Schools Super Student Award
for the last four years. To become a Super Student, Emily
earned academic awards in three or more classes during
the same school year.
With the slow economy in Michigan, the number of
families in need of support continues to grow at Fulton
Schools.
Thanks to a grant from the Gratiot County Community
Foundation to purchase winter clothing for families in
need, our elementary school students will be warm and
safe from the dangers of the cold.
Receiving this support will assist in clothing over 40% of
the current student population. Families who receive free
or reduced lunch rates are placed on the top of the request
list. Others requesting assistance will be placed on the list
until the funds from the grant have been used.
Once again thank you to the Gratiot County Community
Foundation and its support of the needy students at Fulton
Elementary.

Congratulations to the 2014 National Honor Society (NHS) Inductees of Fulton High
School. The following individuals were invited to become a member of the Fulton Schools
National Honor Society on Tuesday, October 14th. To become a member, students must
demonstrate outstanding character, leadership, citizenship, a willingness to help others, and
