A Message from Murielle, the Executive Director Daylight Savings Time can seem unreasonable after months of long, balmy days. Suddenly the sun is setting before 5 p.m. and nighttime lows send us scurrying for sweaters and jackets. Just in time, the winter holidays come along to add color to the darker, chillier evenings. Here at CityView we’ll string festive lights, but we’re hoping you’ll help us make ornaments, cards and other holiday décor, and decorate wreaths and our Christmas tree. We’ll have old-fashioned carol singers Christmas Eve, so please join us for “Jingle Bells,” “Deck the Halls,” and other classics. For the Festival of Lights we’ll light menorah candles and sing “Hanerot Halalu” and “Maot Tzur” each night with Rabbi Gruary of Hancock Park. Come for the blessings, stay for the doughnuts! You can start to get into a festive mood for both holidays with lively variations of traditional songs for Christmas and Hanukkah that are also fun to share with grandkids. All that music might make you want to dance. We have a new dance class led by Kristina. You can kick up your heels standing or do these dances in a chair, whatever is most comfortable for you. Staying active is essential for good health, so we also offer yoga, strengthening and joint flexibility to help you work off any unusual holiday indulgence. Forty percent of Americans make New Year’s resolutions for self-improvement, so let’s all resolve to get more exercise! Holidays are a great time for partying, so be sure to put our Wednesday rooftop socials on your calendar. Our roof is also a great vantage point for viewing holiday decorations for miles around. Autumn Poem~Marsha Schindler

Is that rain falling down, or misty dew?No, those are multicolored leaved; brown, yellow, greenand red.

When you were a child, did you collect them and keepthem in a cache to look at them often, and press them ina book?Maple, oak and elm shaped by an unseen hand.

The heat of yesterday vanishes into the cool of today. The need to stay indoors becomes the wish to gooutdoors, and soak in the fresh air of now.
