Am I the only one that can’t wait for December 1st so I can finally legitimately listen to Christmas music? Let’s be honest, I have been secretly listening to it since the end of October…I can’t help myself, how does it go? “It’s the most wonderful time of the year…”This year, December 1st will usher in our Post Fallidays Festival – Our River City Leadership

Academy Alumni will be hosting their annual Pajama Drive Party at the Post Falls Chamber from 4:30pm-6:30pm, drop by for a cup of cheer, and great company – bring along a pair of new pajamas to be donated to the OASIS special victims program. The City of Post Falls will again celebrate Winterfest on December 1st with their tree lighting ceremony and other fun activities at City Hall.Post Fallidays Tiny Tree Brunch & Auction will be held Saturday, December 2nd from 10am-12pm at the Post Falls Senior Center. Guests will spend the morning perusing tiny trees and wreaths available via silent auction, while enjoying a delicious brunch and teaser performance from the Traditions of Christmas carolers. What a wonderful way to start December!Tuesday, December 19th is our Post Falls Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting at Templin’s Red Lion from 11:30am-1pm. Our Chairman of the Board, Brett Seright, Seright’s Ace Hardware will give his return and report from this past year, and welcome our new Chairman of the Board, Graydon Stanley, North Idaho College. We have much to reflect upon, celebrate, and look forward to.When I think about the holidays, memories start flooding of old (and new) family traditions, extra-special moments with loved ones, delicious food and beautiful decorations. How do you celebrate? However you commemorate the season, I hope you find yourself in good company, making new memories you can recollect next year. For more information and to register for our events, we encourage you to visit our website: www.postfallschamber.com

What is your holiday tradition?

“I just had to share one of the Knight House family traditions with you. Keep in mind that I come from a large family. Every Thanksgiving the entire family still meets up for Thanksgiving Dinner at my parents’ house. Each year everyone who attends is “required” to write down on a sheet of paper, what it is that they’re thankful for. Those sheets of paper are folded up and sealed into a coffee can. We open the coffee can the following year at Thanksgiving Dinner and read them all out loud. It has been such a wonderful and fun tradition that everyone really looks forward to each year”-Pat Knight, Post Falls Police Department

“Starting when I was young, my parents ran the food service for the local community college in Pendleton, Oregon. On Christmas Eve they would work with the Student Body Officers, and local volunteers to feed those in the community who wouldn’t otherwise have a Christmas meal. My parents prepared the turkey dinner with all of the fixings and pies. My Mother was a master organizer, and my father could recruit anyone. On the day of the event jobs were handed out. Our jobs were dependent on age and ability. When I was young I was the runner as I helped in the vans picking up people from their homes or assisted living facilities. As I got older I was a server taking plates of food to the tables serving people. And as a married adult I got to be on the serving line preparing the plates. That was the big time. This Christmas Eve tradition was four hours long and fed over 1,000 people in that time. It was huge. And the biggest payoff? I NEVER had a problem ever falling asleep that night, which made it easier for Santa to do his job. My siblings and I did that for years. When I got married my wife even got involved. Great memory.”-Jeff Conroy, St. Vincent de Paul

“Helping my kids pack Operation Christmas Child boxes”-Gary Lalanne, Integrated Personnel and RCLA

“One of our longest holiday traditions was waiting until Christmas Eve to decorate our Christmas tree. It started out when we were very small kids because we would wait for our out of town family to arrive with our freshly cut tree off of their property. Even when we didn’t have out of town guests for Christmas and we switched to an artificial tree, the tradition continued of putting the tree up on Christmas Eve. It was a way to pass the time until we were all ready to head off to Midnight Mass together (which would be another family tradition).”-Suzanna Spencer, STCU

“My favorite holiday tradition is the time we take to slow down and remember the simple things; time with Dan, our kids, and our granddaughter, cutting the Christmas

Tree, decorating and spending time together relaxing or playing games.”-Warren Merritt, Kootenai County Fire & Rescue
