City Year Word of the Month! Every month, City Year will feature a Word of the Month! Our Word of the Month comes from a list of 30 words that every high schooler needs to know! These are words that are commonly found on stan-dardized tests, like the ACT! October’s Word of the Month is…. Alliteration (n): the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the be-ginning of adjacent or closely connected words. Example: “Shut the shutter before it makes you shudder”
JA Fair visits AT&T with the support of Junior Achievement On Wednesday, November 4
th, the City Year team at
JA Fair High School escorted a select group of ninth graders to visit the AT&T corporate offices on Technol-ogy Drive. This visit was made possible through the hard work of the Junior Achievement Chapter of Arkan-sas. The City Year literacy tutors prepped our students for the fieldtrip by teaching them job readiness skills, like creating an elevator pitch, resume building, inter-view skills, and discussing different career clusters. On site, students attended interactive sessions presented by AT&T’s engineering, Human Resources, and Sales teams. These sessions introduced students to the work culture at AT&T, as well as informed students about possible career paths. Finally, the students learned about the serious consequences associated with dis-tracted driving and they agreed to uphold the #itcanwait pledge by vowing to not text and drive.
