COUNCIL / MANAGEMENT NEWS FUO DECLARES TUESDAY 4 TH NOVEMBER AS LECTURE FREE DAY For the commemoration of Hijra made by Prophet Muhammed (S.A.W) and his followers some 1435 years ago, the Management of Fountain University Osogbo declared Tuesday November 4 th , 2013 as a lecture-free day to mark Islamic New Year (Muharram). The day featured a lecture titled “lmportance of Hijra and lessons derivable from it” delivered by Sheik (Dr.) Abubakr Musa from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He delivered thought-provoking and soul- inspiring lecture which detailed the reasons and lessons learnt from the migration of Prohet Muhammed (S.A.W) and his followers from Mecca to Me- dinah. He reiterated the significance of Hijra in our daily lives upon which he said to leave bad for good is part of Hijra. He answered different questions asked on Hijra for better understanding. Coordinator, Students’ Affairs UNIVERSITY FROWNS AT STUDENTS’ DRESS CODE As enshrined in student’s handbook, females are to use headscarf, non- revealing top and long skirt while males are to put on tie, non-sagging trouser and shirt but reports gathered suggest otherwise. Female students though they wear long gowns but their cleavages are still showing because the gowns they put on are made of elastic materials which shrink to their shape. The University management frowns at this as this is not acceptable in Islam and hence no student should be seen wearing this type of gown anymore. Moreover, male students are warned of their sagging and improper knotting of tie and that any student caught with this will be made to face students’ disciplinary committee, of which the outcome may not be palatable. All stu- dents are to note that wearing of identity card within the campus is compul- sory, so they must all adhere. There had also been debate between Biochemistry and Nutrition students who spoke against “Polygamy is healthier to a Muslim man than monogamy” while Computer Science students spoke for it. Dr. Salau A.K., Mr. Fasanya I., Mr. Abdulsalami I.O and Mr. Alabi K.A. were the judges to consider the submissions of each speaker. Biochemistry and Nutrition students were adjudged to have won the debate

CONAS ORGANIZES SEMINAR ON SPACE SCIENCE

On Wednesday 27th, 2013, delegates led by Mr. Nnamdi Ogechukwu from African Regional Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in English from Obafemi Awolowo University delivered a seminar presentation on “Importance of Space Research to Different Fields”. Mr. Nnamdi Ogechukwu explained the useful-ness of Space Science to different fields and how it has assisted in finding solu-tions to challenges encountered by different professionals. He said that Space Scientists are working hard to imply what causes dryness of Mars which was once some years ago like Earth could be in order to forestall similar things happening to Earth. He equally said that many of the challenges facing us today in science could easily be resolved using Space Science such as pipeline vandalization which can be monitored through attachment of sensors to pipes such that when vandals are working to breakdown the pipes, signals form attached sensors will be noticed in the office and they can be apprehended

UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN BURIES HIS FATHER-IN-LAW

The fidau prayers and social outing of Dr. Gbadamosi B.O; the University Librar-ian’s father-in-law was held on the 16th November, 2013. The funeral ceremony took place at Oyo town and it was attended by staff of Fountain University and other well-wishers. Prominent among them were FUO Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Raji B.A., the Registrar; Alh. Olarenwaju M.O, the Dean of COMAS; Dr. Goke Lalude, Dean of CONAS; Dr. O.B. Bello, Eng. Bello, Dr. Akinola L.S., Mrs. Aderemi, Mr. Azeez R.A. and Alh. Adelaja amongst others.

ACADEMIC / STAFF NEWS

FOUNTAIN VICE-CHANCELLOR HONOURED

The Vice Chancellor of Fountain University, Osogbo; Prof. Bashir Ademola Raji was been decorated as the Role Model for the 2013/2014 academic session at Okanlawon Science Academy, Osogbo.

The Vice Chancellor who was presented a frame of honour by the school had an interactive session with the students where he shared the story of his life and answered questions about his career.

SPORTS & SOCIAL EVENTS 300 LEVEL TEAM WINS VC’S CUP

Sporting activities in FUO took the centre stage between 4th and 20th November, 2013. Students participated in different sports such as volleyball, badminton, football, table tennis, athletics and basketball. Final of football match between 200 L team against 300 L team was played at the closing ceremony. Present at the closing ceremony were Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Bashir Raji who kicked off the ball to start the match, Registrar; Alh. Olarenwaju M.O who presented the trophy to overall winner, the University Librarian; Dr. B.O. Gbadamosi, Dean CONAS; Dr. Bello O.B and Sport Coordinator; Mr. Adedokun G.A. At the end of the sporting events, the medals’ table shows 300 L as the overall winner with 5 gold, 7 silver and 3 bronze medals followed by 200 L with 5 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals,
