Congratulations to six recipients of the DECA Outstanding Service Award, one of DECA’s most prestigious awards recognizing distinguised contributions, presented at this year’s DECA International Career Development Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Five of this year’s recipients are recognized for their service as competitive events coordinators at the International Career Development Conference. In this role, they have ensured the careful and

accurate execution of DECA’s Competitive Events Program for many years. Each year, they impact more than 10,000 students by assisting with facilities layout, authoring series director handbooks, conducting adult assistant training, orienting competitors and implementing all aspects of competitive events.

As these volunteer duties are not part of their jobs, each of the individuals has used vacation time to assist with DECA’s ICDC. DECA proudly honors Chad Froeschle (Ill.),

Jennifer Kyle (Colo.), Ron Kyle (Okla.), Betty McKie (Colo.) and Paul Wardinski (Va.) with the Outstanding Service Award.

DECA also congratulates Barbara Henn (Va.), assistant director of DECA Inc.’s High School Division. During her nine-year career at DECA, Barbara has supervised the high school national officer teams, planned and managed the annual New York Experience conference, assisted in the preparation of competitive events and assisted in writing and editing for DECA’s publications.

DECA members can now receive even more feedback from their competitive events performance at the International Career Development Conference. The transcripts continue to feature rankings and performance measures for each instructional area on the career cluster exam, but they now also feature detailed information for each performance indicator and/or evaluation criterion that the judge evaluates.

Each competitior’s performance is compared against all competitors within the competitive event. These are excellent documents of evidence of student achievement and can be included in their portfolios.

Please understand that due to the structure of DECA’s competitive events program, all data is normalized to provide

this feedback and should be viewed as a snapshot of performance rather than in terms of competition rankings.

Advisors may purchase transcripts for ICDC competitors beginning May 15. The cost is $7 each, and a credit card is required. For more information, contact Shane Thomas at (703) 860-5000. <www.deca.org/page/transcript

This event is only for DECA members who currently own and operate their own business. The H&R Block Dollars and Sense Challenge will become an official competitive event, and DECA will introduce the Virtual Business Challenge — Restaurant Management in 2012-2013.
