The school was able to field four grade-level specific interscholastic teams this season. The school’s fifth-grade team, which played its matches primarily against other schools’ sixth-grade teams, finished their season with a record of 17-18. The sixth-grade team took the top spot in both tournaments they participated in this sea- son. Both tournaments were played in Septem- ber. The first was held at St. Paul Grafton and the second was on their home court during the Wildcats Invitational Tournament. The team finished the season with a record of 11-5-1. With 19 girls from the seventh and eighth grades participating, the program was able to field two teams. The seventh/eighth-grade white team finished their season with a record of 11-11-2. The team finished second to the school’s sixth-grade team in the Wildcats Invi- tational Tournament but in the Sheboygan Lutheran High School Tournament they placed third. The seventh/eighth-grade red team finished their regular season with a record of 16-3-2 and earned the opportunity to complete in the state tournament at the end of October, where they tied for 11th place. During the regular season, the team participated in three tournaments, St. John’s Glendale, Hales Corners Lutheran and their own Wildcats Invitational Tournament, taking first place in their division at each. Samuel Lepak, Saukville, whois studying entrepreneurship andmarketing, pitched Social River.

Saul Morales-Mcquaid,Cedarburg, who is studying Span-ish, pitched Latino Pro.

Hosted by the campus chapterof Collegiate Entrepreneurs’Organization, the competition isUW-Whitewater’s version ofABC’s “Shark Tank.”

Each student has 90 seconds topitch their startup. Students’ideas are a range of innovativeproducts and services.

“Students get to experience theexcitement and gain insights intowhat it takes to rapidly pitch yourstartup to other entrepreneursand investors,” said Dave Gee,CEO adviser and lecturer in man-agement. “Some students havegone on to raise millions of dol-lars in revenue and hundreds ofthousands of dollars frominvestors. One student evenappeared on ABC’s ‘SharkTank.’”

CEDARBURG — High school seniorsand their parents interested in winningscholarships for their college educa-tions should mark their calendars forWednesday.

The Cedarburg Community Scholar-ship Fund will be holding an informa-tion session for all high school seniorswho live in the Cedarburg School Dis-trict. Students do not have to attendCedarburg High School to qualify for ascholarship. The information sessionwill take place at 7 p.m. at the Cedar-burg Performing Arts Center.

At the information session, scholar-ship applications will be distributed

and questions will be answered. During its 44-year history, CCSF has

awarded $2.7 million in merit-basedscholarships to more than 3,000 gradu-ates. This past school year, 113 gradu-ates from five high schools and onehomeschool were awarded scholarshipstotaling over $165,850. Scholarshipsranged from $600 to $4,000. CEDARBURG — The Wisconsin Health and Physical Edu-cation Association announced that Patty Kestell, ThorsonElementary physical educator, has taken the Associationpresidential gavel during the annual WHPE Convention inWisconsin Dells.

Kestell is an excellent HPE professional who has servedchildren and families and the state association for over 25years, according to her nomination. During this time, shehas conducted numerous classroom and after-school activi-ties that provide children and families with opportunities toengage in the pursuit and development of healthy activelifestyles. Kestell is among the elite in the profession, attain-ing excellence as both the state and Midwest District Teach-er of the Year. Subsequently, she was chosen as the NationalElementary Teacher of the Year (2013) through an extensivenational screening and review process. Kestell has given ser-vice to the profession via leadership on the WHPE & Mid-west Board of Directors. She has also been active at theNational SHAPE professional level.

During her term as association president, Kestell will con-tinue to serve the students and families of Thorson Elemen-tary in Cedarburg as well as the greater professional com-munity at large.

GRAFTON — The Grafton School District will conduct an early childhood screening for 3- and4-year-old children who are residents of the district and who are suspected of having significantdelays in their development. For the child to participate in this screening, it must be suspectedthat he or she has developmental delays significant enough to be considered educationallyhandicapping. The purpose of the screening is to identify children who may benefit from anearly educational intervention program for disabled children.

The screening, which lasts about an hour, is a brief series of tests to help determine whichchildren have suspected exceptional education needs. Areas that will be screened are learningand thinking, speech and language and motor development. Parents will also be asked to fill outa form about their child’s social and emotional growth.

The screening will be held at Grafton Elementary School Friday morning, Dec. 9. Please callthe district office at 262-376-5416 to set up your appointment or for answers for any further ques-tions you might have.
