    [Greetings]

The topic for the discussion is should there be a common entrance exam for all engineering

    colleges.

After hearing all the arguments presented before us, the knee jerk reaction by any worthy mind

would definitely be in favour of having a common entrance test but after I present the real pictureIm sure all of you would agree that it is not only an impractical suggestion but would be a real

    disaster if implemented.

For all of you I have a simple question whether it is better to fix a nail by giving multiple blows of low

intensity or to hit it only once giving it a blow of such great intensity that the wall collapses? I expect

and hope that you would have got the relevance, and for those who have not yet understood it, how

is putting students under the pressure of performing in a single CET justified! If theres only one

entrance exam itll be a matter of life and death for the students, how can anyone justify the

proposal by giving the paradoxical argument of relieving students of the so called great stress they

undergo preparing for multiple entrance exams. I guess, according to our government and my wise

opponents, it is better to put the students under enormous pressure for once and all and beoblivious of the subsequent increase in number of student suicide cases. Isnt it? Why do we forget

that a student is also a human and has limits to take stress, why does our education system tend to

robotise and mechanise them! And introduction of CET would only reinforce stress in student lives.

None of us can neglect that its not only the merit of a candidate which decides his future but a

number of uncontrollable external factors which have their respective roles too. How does my

worthy opponent answer the question of playing with a deserving students future if he\she couldnt

perform that very day or what we call as the bad day and what if a student falls sick that day, does

that mean that my worthy opponents are assuming the ideal conditions where nothing can go wrong

provided you have worked hard. Hah! I cant understand what to say on this most foolish thought.

Guess what, some worthy minds will still ignore all the facts and blindly support the CET. May God

    help them!

To those in favour of having a CET for all engg colleges, my question is is there a common syllabus

for all students up to 10+2? We have a number of boards of education-the CBSE, the ICSE, different

state boards, how can the students studying from different boards be compared on the same scale.

These boards have syllabi differing greatly from those of each others; the CBSE and ICSE definitely

hone skills better in accordance with the national level entrance exams. Its easy to propose a CET

but what about the millions of students studying in rural areas who have neither competent

teachers nor requisite facilities to prepare them for national level competition. They will not only

lose their morale but also seats which they gain by concentrating on state level engg exams which

have a format in accordance with their respective state board of education.

The lamest reason in favour of the CET which I have heard is that if US can implement such a system

then why cant we. Cant we for once appreciate our selection criteria and accept that we are

unique. It will prove to do more harm than good if the same system is taken in the Indian education

system. The reason the selection process works in the US is that it depends on multiple criteria and

as a result requires more work from the administrators perspective. Everything a person does is not

boiled down into one number or a single rank but is balanced with other attributes that try to

determine how well a person will fit into the engineering school, including creativity and innovative

thinking. Why are we so adamant on blindly aping the US even if it goes against our interests?

My worthy opponent may argue that having a CET will result in saving time and money which

pinches parents- how ridiculous! Tell me will the parents be satisfied saving all this time and money

if their ward does not do well in the single chance available to him.

Will you still welcome the CET? If yes, then my dear open your eyes before its too late and the

disaster has occurred. I would conclude by saying that on no grounds is the introduction of a CET

    justified and welcomed.
