TRANSCRIPT

Dear Temple Community, Volume 12, Issue 10 Friday July 7, 2017

Term 2 has finally come to an end and the students have worked very hard throughout this term.

Exams

The Year 8 to 10 stu-

dents are to be com-

mended as they all had 2

exams on their last day. I

have been most im-

pressed by the way the

students have embraced this time of study

and examinations. It has provided the stu-

dents an opportunity to develop their study

skills, as well as developing perseverance.

The skills they are developing now will make

a significant difference later. For the stu-

dents who really did not do any study, there

are still more opportunities to come to devel-

op these important skills.

The Turnaround Term

This is a phrase termed by Marcel Rijken

with the following explanation: “Term 3 is a

great term and one I always look forward to.

I often call it the turnaround term, as it is a

great opportunity for students to improve

their attitude marks and their subject marks.

There are no exams at the end of Term 3

and the grade given is only for that term.

Many students improve their marks in Term

3”.

Pursuing excellence for the glory of God

The Year 11 Dance was also a huge suc-

cess, with the largest attendance ever. The

students look so grown up when they are not

in their School Uniform. A big thank you to all

the staff and students, who were involved in

the organisation of these events.

Term 3 commences Wednesday July 26

Students will return next term on Wednesday,

26 July. On the Monday and Tuesday of that

week, all of the Temple staff will be attending

the Christian School Australia (CSA) Biennial

State Conference. We have over 1000 staff

from CSA schools attending this great event

and it will be held at Tyndale Christian School.

Our keynote speaker this year is Mark Sayers,

cultural commentator and Red Church Senior

Leader. His book Disappearing Church: From

Cultural Relevance to Gospel Resilience sets

the scene for his message to us. Mark is gifted

in prophetically speaking into the intersection

of faith and culture.

School Events

I had the privilege of attending the Twilight

Concert, which highlighted the awesome talent

of our Middle School Music Program.

Parents/Caregivers please note:

The Uniform Shop will not be open during the School Holidays.

Due to the Christian Schools Australia Conference on

Monday July 24th and Tuesday July 25th, Term 3 does not

commence until Wednesday July 26.

Rod Klimionok,

Campus Principal, Temple Christian College

Congratulations to Adam and Sarah Wolf on the

birth of their third daughter, Matilda Grace

Wolf. Born 5 weeks early, on the 29th June, she

weighed exactly 2kgs.

Email Addresses

Email addresses of our Parents/Caregivers

are vital for use as a communication tool at

Temple Christian College. Please email my

PA, Linda Hunter at:

so that we can have a record of your email

address.

Parenting Ideas Insights

This week’s article is on ‘Building Self-

Esteem Away From The Screens’. Positive

parenting is vital to develop resilience in

your children. This article gives practical

ideas to create a balance between technolo-

gy and family life.

Conclusion

Hard work creates a good work ethic, devel-

ops resilience and can achieve good results.

1 Corinthians 15:58 says ‘So friends, be

strong and immovable. Always work enthu-

siastically for the Lord, for you know that

nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.’

I trust and pray that the holiday break will be

relaxing and refreshing and I look forward to

seeing the students ready to go for next

term.

PNG Missions Trip

Our PNG missions team will be leaving in the

second week of the holiday break. They will be

working at the Sunrise Bethel Christian School

in Pt Moresby. The team will be led by Mr Tony

Hudson and Mrs Miriyam Kaladari. We have 5

students going this year and 3 of those stu-

dents also went last year. Please pray for the

staff and students involved.

Audio Visual Studies

I recently had a discussion with our Audio Visu-

al Studies Provider, who told me that Paralowie

Campus had the largest cohort (106 students)

of their 180 schools studying Audio Visual .

This is a very popular subject at our campus.

On Thursday evening of Week 9, the Year 11s kicked up their heels and

celebrated the end of exams with their dance, before most of them went

off to do their work experience in Week 10. It has been a long first se-

mester of SACE for the students, so what better way to wind down than

with dancing, pizza, a lolly buffet and mocktail slushies.

A lot of effort was put into preparing the Recital Room, and it looked a

treat, with balloons, a photo booth, light up bar, and decorations. The

students used the opportunity to dress up for the occasion, and some

even followed the masquerade theme. Both the students, and the staff,

had a great evening, and it was fantastic to see the turn out. This year’s

Year 11 Dance was the biggest ever, with 60 students attending. We

commend the students for the fun loving attitude they brought to the

night, and were pleased by how the evening brought the year level to-

gether in community.

Blessings

The man who plays baseball has a neighbour who drinks water.

Who owns the fish?

Thursday 22nd June was our Semester 1 Twilight Concert, featuring performances by Music classes from Year 7 to Year

10.

It is always a pleasure to see the students showcase what they have achieved throughout the semester, and the standard

of performance continues to improve each time.

A number of soloists and small groups also performed, including Amy Sander on Clarinet, Kym Vo on Saxophone, a Year

10 trio (Felicity Fanto, Olivia Aphai and Trung Tran) and a Year 9 Duo (Vien Cajipe and Leanne Hester).

Thanks as always to the hard-working Music staff: Mr Daughtry, Miss Baker and Mr Buckoke who were all involved with the

various classes, as well as Mr Burfield who assisted on the evening and Miss Jones who works behind the scenes as our

Administration Assistant. I’d also like to acknowledge the work of our contracted Instrumental Music tutors who work hard

to teach students the skills on their instruments in support of what we are trying to achieve in our classes!

It was great to see how many parents, friends and extended family came along in support of the performers – thank you!

We are looking forward to our next big event which is the Music Showcase on 8th August.

Weekly Sport Netball Premierships In Week 7, three of our netball teams made it through to the Grand Finals in the Northern Zone competition. All three

teams tasted success, beating teams from Salisbury East and Paralowie. The Year 8/9 boys played well as a team, with

our players consistently beating their direct opponents throughout the course of the game. The Year 9 girls followed on

from their success in SACSA Netball, by continuing their domination on the netball court, annihilating Salisbury East. Par-

ticular mention to the Year 8 girls, who came from four goals down in the last quarter to snatch an incredible victory. Well

done to everyone who has participated in Weekly Sport throughout Term 2, and a particular congratulations to the stu-

dents who played in the Premierships.

Sam Agnew.

Staff-Student Netball On Wednesday of week 8, we had our

annual Staff-Student Netball match. Af-

ter losing last year, the staff were deter-

mined to win back their title of champi-

ons. With a great level of participation by

both staff and students, the staff man-

aged to get out to an early lead. Mr Pit-

man was eagerly commentating the

game from the sideline when he wasn’t

playing to continue building the atmos-

phere. At the end of the game, the staff

team won 12-7. Congratulations, staff!

Year 7 Good Behaviour Crystal Award

In Term One, Mr Lamont created an award to encourage good behaviour in

science. With the help of the fantastic Science Lab Assistant Mrs V, they

grew a massive crystal out of Copper Sulphate and had it mounted. The

crystal took approximately 3 months to grow.

There were many students who quali-

fied for this award, so Mr Lamont decid-

ed to have a Bunsen Burner Off…. The first student to achieve fire ‘Survivor Style,’

whilst following lab safety and procedure would take home the coveted award. The

winner was Ryan Gambling, and as you can tell from the picture he was overwhelmed

and lost for words.

Mr Lamont

Year 10 Putt Putt Boat Race

The Year 10s constructed Putt Putt boats, with a view to understanding the physics be-

hind the steam boiler. All four Year 10 classes created boats for the final race which was

run on Friday 30 June. Mr Bradtke, being a long time winner of this race in previous

years, was rather disappointed when his boats couldn’t quite get off the starting line.

Mr Lamont’s class on the oth-

er hand dominated through-

out the trails and the final

race. A small group of stu-

dents in Mr Lamont’s class

took home the trophy.

Congratulations go to the winning team headed up by Aurelia

Czudek.

This is a reminder that the school has chosen to become a "Nut Aware" school.

This awareness has been implemented because there is an increased number of students at

our school who have severe peanut/nut allergies. These students cannot be exposed to nuts

in ANY form, as this will trigger an anaphylactic reaction - that is a reaction requiring an

immediate injection of adrenalin, ambulance attendance and hospitalization.

This has very serious consequences for our students and in their best interests, we ask that care is taken with all

peanut/nuts and food containing nuts within the school. The Canteen/Home Ec. has also undertaken the change.

The school acknowledges that due to food processing practices, it is impractical to eliminate nuts or nut products

entirely from an environment where there is food. Thus "Nut Aware" School.
