355 Landrum Lane, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. 32082 Palms Post Issue 6 Vol.22—2020
Dear Ocean Palms Families,
The New Year is a great time to reflect on the past, plan for new and exciting
things to come and set new goals. Goal setting and celebrating progress is an
important part of the expectations we have for the children at OPE. Our students
are demonstrating a growth mindset and have been focused on making learning
gains on their Winter iReady Diagnostics. We are excited about the progress
students are making meeting their academic goals and are very grateful for the
support we have received from our families. Assessment results will be sent
home after students complete the assessments. Students will receive SWAG
tags in both reading and math when they meet a percentage of their annual goal.
Students who meet their annual goal by the end of the year will be invited to at-
tend a SUMO Wrestling competition. In the New Year, we will continue to encour-
age and inspire children to always work to their personal best, both socially and
academically.
As the new year begins we would like to introduce a few new staff members.
Joining our OPE family is our new PE Coach, Mrs. Jennifer Bouaziz and new
Speech Language Pathologist, Mrs. Emily Tuten. Mrs. Camille Carrier will also
be returning to OPE three days a week to complete our speech language team.
Coach B is a University of Florida graduate with ten years of teaching experience.
Her focus is to give students the tools they need for a lifetime of health and well-
ness. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her two boys, Moussa and
Khaled, running and supporting Gator sports. Mrs. Emily Tuten has worked as a
speech pathologist in California and Florida schools as well as the hospital setting
and private practice. When she is not working she loves spending time with her
husband and her 12 year old daughter. In her spare time you can find her at the
courts watching her daughter play volleyball. We are very excited to welcome
Coach B, Mrs. Tuten, and Mrs. Carrier to OPE.
We hope that 2020 is a positive and prosperous year for everyone! Again, we
are so grateful to have a community that always puts children first.
Sincerely,
Tiffany Cantwell

The run/walk is open to all ages, and the top three winners will be awarded in each of the age cate-gories as well as the overall male and female finishers. A cash donation will be awarded to the top three to five schools with the most registrants. Last year these schools were Ocean Palms Elementary, Alice B. Landrum Middle, Otis Mason Elementary, Palm Valley Academy and Palencia Elementary. All race registrants will receive a t-shirt and oth-er goodies from area businesses and organizations. At the finish line, each race participant will receive a commemorative dog tag which is the sixth design in its series.
This event is produced by the CHARACTER COUNTS! Steering Commit-tee and is presented by Beaver Toyota with support from businesses and community groups. Action News Jax CBS47/FOX30 is the official media sponsor of this run/walk.
The SJCSD, along with area businesses, youth organizations and civic groups, selected the national character education program of CHARACTER COUNTS! as a countywide initiative to instill positive character traits in young people throughout the county. Additionally, the SJCSD became the first school district in Florida to imple-ment Pursuing Victory With Honor in all of its athletic programs. Character education is an important part of every School Improvement Plan and a major component of the Student Code of Conduct and the school district’s Strategic Plan.
