Dear Lovely Limes and Perfect Purples, Hope you all had a great weekend and are ready for another week of home learning. A few families have mentioned that they are having trouble keeping up with everything on our Google Classroom so I thought I would just write a list of the 4 main things you need to know. 1. This Week’s Work - This is all the week’s work and things you will need to go with it. You can collect it as a hard copy from school on a Friday afternoon/ Monday morning or print it off from Google Classroom. It has the lessons, English, Maths, and afternoon worksheet. Remember it is not expected that every family with be able to do every activity and it is ok if you change things based on your child. There is a checklist where you can tick off what your child did this week. In the file in Google Classroom there is also a PowerPoint called Links. This has links to all the books, songs and game you will need for the week’s lessons. Just click on the pictures. 2. Who is working online today? - On Google Classroom everyday there is a file what is called ‘Who is working online today?’ with a date. This file has two purposes. The first is that we can see who is accessing the Classroom and who might need a little help but the second is, this is where we put any messages or information that we are asked to pass on to you. We understand that some families are not able to access our Google Classroom and that is fine but if you are able to, it would be great if you could read the post and click on here every day. 3. 4. Zoom - At the moment, we have three Zooms a week. We have catch up

Zooms at 9:15 on Monday and Wednesday morning where we all come together to share news and maybe play a game or two and talk about the week. This is a great way to stay connected and share with your friends and practise turn taking. We also hold Reading Group Zooms on Tuesday mornings. There is a timetable below. These Zooms let us work in small groups to develop our reading. These are the main things that happen during the week for Kindergarten. If you are needing any help with any of these, please let us know. We are happy to walk you through how to do them. Just a reminder that on Fridays Ms Hackney is at home trying to help her boys with remote learning and on Mondays she goes to school to help the children whose parents are essential workers. On these days if you email her it might take her a little time before she replies but Mrs Browne and Mrs Heyne are online. If you send a private message on Google Classroom they are able to get straight back to you. If you are not sure how to do this, let us know and we can walk you through how. It is not as tricky as it sounds.

Reading Passage Read today’s passage that uses your sight words and the sounds that we are practicing today. Practise the words you will see in the passage first. Now read it with an adult, then read it on your own. You can read it more than once.

Adult shows student Lay number cards 0 to 20 out of order out of order. Child

moves one card at a time until all cards are in the correct

order. (Use the cards from previous week).

Mix up cards again & lay them face down. Child picks up two

cards at a time & states which is larger or smaller. After a

while, use 3 cards. Child identifies largest and smallest

number then lays them in order.

Use a calculator to reinforce counting sequences to & from

20. Say AND when pressing + & MAKES when pressing =.

Say TAKE AWAY when pressing - & LEAVES when pressing

=. Press 0+1===…….then Press 20-1===………..

Place number cards on a ledge or floor in order. Ask child to

take a card one at a time e.g. take the largest number, the

smallest number, the number between 7&9…… until all cards

are gone.

Play ‘Are You Thinking Of?’ Adult & child choose a number &

put it in their head (do not tell each other). Each has their own

set of cards 0 to 20. Adult and child take turns to ask

questions that only involve a yes or no answer. Remove the

cards that are eliminated with each question until there is only

one left.

Discuss the strategies child uses to help them

order numbers to 20. If they know 0 to 9, they

can use this to help order 10 to 19.

Can students order numbers from 0 to 20?

Can students count backwards & forwards

from 0 to 20?

Support – give child five number cards. Call

out an instruction. If it matches the number

card the child has they keep it. E.g. is your

number is higher than 15/ lower than 6/

between 6 & 10…. Until the child has all the

back. That student asks questions to identify

their number e.g. is my number larger than

10/ more than 15…. Until they work out what

the number is.

As Mr Gumpy floats down the river in his boat the children and animals ask if they can join him. On a piece of paper draw a map of the river. Place the pictures of the characters on your map (or draw your own) to show the order in which they got into the boat. Last of all draw the boat tipped over in the water.

Ask you an adult if you may have a bath instead of a shower today please so that you can test which of the plastic items you collect will float on the water. Remember NOT to make a mess and to clean up, wipe and put away the things you use when you have finished with them. Challenge – see how many different types of boats you can find and name.

Adult shows student Adult takes 5 small objects from a container. Turns

away from child, putting some in one hand & some in

the other. Turn to child but keep one hand behind

their back. Adult holds out the objects in the visible

hand & the child has to determine how many are left

in the hand that is hidden. Repeat with other

numbers of objects.

Adult and child have 6 small objects each. Take turns

to divide the objects between your two hands &

closes your fists. The partner chooses one of the

hands to be opened showing counters – they have to

work out how many counters are in the other hand.

Swap roles. Discuss the strategies you used to work

out the hidden number of counters.

On a piece of paper, child draws 8 counters & covers

some. Write number sentence underneath e.g. 8 take

away 5 leaves 3.

Student shows adult Discuss the various strategies child used to

work out the missing part. If they use counting

on they need help to realise that the situation is

‘take away’ & that you are finding out what is

left.

Can child use appropriate strategies to work out

how many counters are hidden?

Support – work with child to place out objects,

cover some & have child work out how many

are hidden. Model the language e.g. 6 take

away 4 leaves 2.

Extension – Have child write two subtraction

sentences for each arrangement e.g. 7 take

4.Complete some Matific activities.

Independent Activities:

1.Activity sheet - write the missing

numbers in the box & draw dots on the

dominoes instead of cutting and

pasting. You may need counters or

toothpicks etc to use to help you with

your counting.

2.In pairs, adult/child takes a domino.

They state how many dots there are

altogether. They cover one side & say

how many are left. Their partner states

how many are hidden. Show to check.

Can use 9 dot dominos to extend the

activity. Child can use dominos on

own to write down number sentences

associated with their choice of

dominos.

3.Draw a picture displaying objects

e.g. fish in a tank, cookies on a plate,

apples in a tree…… When complete,

student positions a cover sheet over

some of the objects & adult sticky

tapes it on one end so the flap can be

lifted to check. Child writes the total

number of objects in large writing in

the top right corner of the page. Can

put together as a number flap book.

will need help from an adult to do

this. When you have finished you

When my brother was little he

liked to have a shower. He would

turn the water on and stand in the

corner where the water couldn’t

reach him. Then he would turn the

water off & get dressed! My mum

never realized that the towel was

describes the shape, names it & removes it to check

that they are correct.

Have the 4 paper shapes visible. Adult describes a

shape & students have to guess which shape is

being described. E.g It has 4 sides (square &

rectangle); It has 4 corners (square & rectangle);

Two of the sides are longer than the other two sides

(rectangle). Repeat for the other shapes.

Students hunt through magazines/catalogues to find

pictures that are similar to the four shapes. Sort the

pictures into 4 groups. Hold the picture near the large

paper shape it is like. Paste it onto the shape.

Adult, using the large shapes & the small pre-cut

shapes, slowly, silently & thoughtfully places the

large shapes in one group & the small shapes in

another group & asks child to state how they were

sorted. Repeat for other features – 4 sides/ not 4

sides; curves/ no curves…..

the names of the days of the week on the chart & see where

the name of today lies in relation to the weekend. Discuss

what you and your child regularly do on the weekend?

Count the number of days in a week.

The week calendar song – The Learning StationAsk child

to tell you what they do on the weekends. Write the words

Saturday & Sunday on a piece of paper. Draw little pictures

& key words next to each day. Repeat for the school week.

Ask What day is today? What things do we do today? What

did we do yesterday? What things will we be doing

tomorrow?

Ask questions that encourage your child to think about the

order of the days of the week. E.g. What is today? Will

tomorrow be Friday? What was yesterday? Is it the

weekend? Do you do school work on the weekend?

Discuss the meaning of yesterday was; today is; tomorrow

will be. Practise the usage of these words based around the

activities that happen on those days.

& paint/draw a picture of why you have

chosen that day. Display with the name

of day & your reason. Discuss & graph

to find the family’s favourite day.

3.Complete the picture diary Activity

may need to paste the same picture next

to more than one day of the week.

4.Using 2 pieces of blank paper. Fold in

half to make a booklet. Over the course

of a week use one page each to create a

diary. Draw icons or small pictures.

write a sentence e.g. On Saturday I play

soccer and ride my bike.
