IT’S ALL ABOUT THE PARTNERSHIP!

Importance of communication among the two departments

Support and Trust

As counselors, what can we bring to the Dean of Students and what does the Dean of Students want to know?

Page 5: Dean of Students and the Guidance Department working together

WHAT THE COUNSELOR WANTS YOU TO KNOW… Please trust that I know my students

well, and if I don’t I will say so Understand my role as an advocate for

my students, even when they have done wrong

Please consider the stressors and extenuating circumstances in their lives

Caring and Empathizing – Not Coddling Challenging Students – Guidance Style! Developing trust and partnering with the

administration/Dean – Most Welcome!

WHAT THE DEAN WANTS YOU TO KNOW… Holding students accountable – not punishment Consistency is key Trust me to do the right thing. If you are open to hearing me, I am open to working

with you The individual and what the institution can bear I care about students too! Be OK with me saying “I need to sleep on it” Any help or insight with parents is a huge help Expellable Situations: I will call on the assistance of

the Disciplinary Review Board for a recommendation Sometimes, we have no choice but to ask a student

to leave; it is never an easy decision.
