  4. 4. FEMNET In their Publication : Reproductive and Sexual Health Rights in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda - An Advocacy and Communications Approach 2007 Kenya Section Page 10 of the Publication. Key Finding: There exists a comprehensive policy framework that acknowledges the Kenyan Governments obligations and commitment to attainment of reproductive and sexual health, and addresses the various components of reproductive and sexual health in depth. There is need for information flow and monitoring on the implementation of the policies.

Pathfinders International Reproductive Health and Family Planning in Kenya The Pathfinder International Experience -October 2008 This was their conclusion Although Kenya has been long held as one of Africas Family Planning successes, both in the use of contraceptives and other Reproductive Health services, there is still substantial unmet need. With the Governments stated commitment to free health services for poor Kenyans yet to bear full fruit, meeting this need demands significant NGO and private sector involvement. Moreover, the demand for HIV/AIDS information and services calls for maximizing resources and expertise by integrating efforts at both community and clinic level.
  6. 6. Kenya National Commission for Human Rights KNCHR A Report of the Public Inquiry into Violations of Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights in Kenya [April 2012] entitled [Realizing Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights in Kenya: A myth or reality?]
  7. 7. Key findings Sexual and reproductive health is a fundamental human right as well as human development issue that states must strive to fulfill. This right is guaranteed in various international and regional human rights instruments as well as national laws and policies.
  8. 8. Key finding 2 Despite the key role that family planning plays in sexual and reproductive health, the unmet need still remains high. The inquiry determined that most Kenyans who desire to plan their families still do not have access to family planning services.
  9. 9. Key Finding 3 Findings of the Inquiry point to a number of barriers that inhibit the realization of maternal health rights in Kenya:
  10. 10. Key Finding 4 A number of barriers were reported to inhibit access to remedies by victims of sexual violence.
  11. 11. Key findings 5 Adequate financing of SRH services is essential for the realization of sexual and reproductive health rights in Kenya.
  12. 12. Key Finding 6 The Inquiry determined that sexual minorities such as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-gender and inter-sex persons (LGBTIs) suffer numerous human rights violations on the basis of their sexual behavior and orientation.
