OSY2 Supervisory Switch

The OSY2 is used to monitor the open position of an Outside Screw and

Yoke (OS&Y) type gate valve.

Features

• NEMA 3R-rated enclosure

• User-friendly mounting bracket fi ts newer valve yokes

• Single side conduit entry does not require right angle fi ttings

simultaneously

Robust Construction. The OSY2 consists of a rugged housing,

intended for indoor and outdoor use. When installed with the actuator in

the vertical position, the OSY2 is NEMA 3R rated per UL.

Application Flexibility. The OSY2 features a user-friendly mounting

bracket and adjustable shaft to permit mounting to most OS&Y valves,

ranging in size from 1˝ to 12˝. Its right angle design and wide bracket span

provides maximum clearance for valve components, to accommodate

troublesome valves. Removing the OSY2’s gate valve bracket allows the

unit to monitor side-bracketstyle pressure reducing valves.

Simplifi ed Operation. Installation is made easier with the OSY2’s single

side conduit entrance. By providing a direct conduit pathway to the

electrical source, right angle fi ttings are not required.

Installation is further simplifi ed by the OSY2’s adjustable length actuator,

which eliminates the need for cutting the shaft.

Reliable Performance. The OSY2 is equipped with tamper-resistant

cover screws to prevent unauthorized entry. Inside, two sets of SPDT

(Form C) synchronized switches are enclosed in a durable terminal block

to assure reliable performance.

OSY2 Specifi cations

Architectural/Engineering Specifi cations

Model shall be model number OSY2 supervisory switch as manufactured

by System Sensor. OSY2 shall be installed on each valve as designated

on the drawings and/or as specifi ed herein. Switches shall be mounted

so as not to interfere with the normal operation of the valve and shall be

adjusted to operate within two revolutions of the valve control or when

the stem has moved no more than one-fi fth of the distance from its

normal position. The mechanism shall be contained in a weatherproof

die cast metal housing that provides a side entrance for ½˝ conduit

and incorporates the necessary facilities for attachment to the valve. A

grounding provision is provided. The switch assembly shall include two

switches each with a rated capacity of 10 Amp @ 125/250VAC and 2.5

Amp @ 24VDC. The cover shall contain tamper-resistant screws for

which a security wrench will be provided with each switch. The OSY2

shall be Underwriters

Laboratories listed for indoor or outdoor use. The OSY2 shall be Factory

Mutual, CSFM, and MEA approved.

Description

The A61 Test and Drain valve for sprinkler systems combines the

functions of test and drain for wet sprinkler systems.

The A61 valves have forged brass body with chrome plate brass ball

valve and PTFE seats. The valves complies with the requirements of

Determining the proper outlet pressure

1- The valves are reducing the downstream water pressure under fl owing

(residual) condition only.

The valve should not be set to provide less than the minimum pressure

required by NFPA 14 while fl owing 250 GPM for 2 1/2” size and 100

GPM for 1 1/2” size.

NFPA 14 requires that Standpipe systems shall be hydraulically designed

to provide the required water fl ow rate at a minimum residual pressure of

100 PSI at the outlet of hydraulically most remote 2 1/2” hose connection

and 65 PSI at the outlet at the hydraulically most remote 1 1/2” hose

station.

Outlet pressures which do not correspond to NFPA 14 requirements

must be authorized by local fi re department.

There will be a pressure drop due to friction between the outlet and the

nozzle.

The amount of this loss should be calculated by qualifi ed personnel, to

assure that the nozzle receives water pressure suffi cient to its design

needs.

Note that some fi re hose nozzles may not operate properly when valve

outlet pressure is set at the 100 PSI minimum authorized in the 2007

The outlet pressures indicated in the curves are at the outlet of the valve.

2- To determine the pressures at the hose nozzle, the hydraulic calculation

information provided in NFPA. Fire Protection Handbook should be

followed.

3- The valves are designed and Listed to reduce inlet pressures under

fl owing conditions: see the following graphs.

Authorities having jurisdiction should be consulted to confi rm that the

outlet pressures and fl owrates are acceptable.

Installation

1- Pipe unions or rubber-gasketed fi ttings are to be installed immediately

upstream and downstream of the valve to permit easy replacement.

2- Connect the valve to the piping.

3- Select setting number from proper graph.

4- Close valve hand-tight.

5- Loosen set screw in collar.

6- Rotate indicator-cap untill top collar reaches selected setting number.

7- Tighten set screw in collar. Valve is now set.

8- To override pressure restriction, pull spring clip. See Fig.1.

• These valves are intended for use in Class III Standpipe systems.

• Pipe unions or rubber-gasketed fi ttings are to be installed immediately

upstream of the valve to permit easy replacement.

• If the valve fail to perform as intended, the valve would need to be

replaced.

The valves must be installed on threaded end NPT pipe line using

appropriate tools through the hexagon at the bottom of the body.

During the installation pay attention not to deform the bonnet or other

valve parts, as this could compromise the valve functioning. By turning

the handle counterclockwise, the valve opens and it closes by turning

the handle clockwise. After installation, verify the tightness through a

pressure test.

Maintenance

The valves require no special maintenance. Conduct periodic hydraulic

tightness test and check the correct manoeuvrability. In case of damage

of the seal seat or of the bonnet, the valve must be replaced. However it

is recommended to replace the valve after a lifetime of ten years.

Maintenance and testing should be done in accordance with NFPA 25.

1- In the event the valve leaks, the test valve should be opened again to

fl ush the valve.

2- The valve should be inspected for damage or corrosion annually.

3- The valve is not designed to accept replacement parts.

4- The system should be drained every two to three years and all valves

opened fully and lubricant applied to the valve stem. The valve seat

should be inspected for debris.

5- The valve should be operated by hand, never using a torque bar or

other device to exert pressure. Excess torque may damage the seat and

or stem, disc, and other working parts.

6- If the valve fails to perform as intended, the valve should be replaced.

Exposed fi re department inlet connections A95 and A96 series

Description

Two-way siamese connections used as an auxiliary inlet connection

providing 500 GPM minimum to supplement the fi re protection water supply.

Swing clapper provides full waterway. Exposed design provides an

economical method of satisfying Fire Department. inlet requirements.

These connections are most commonly located on the side of buildings

(A95), but may also be located remote from the building (A96).

These are known as ”freestanding” or ”sidewalk” Fire Department

Connections). NFPA 13 requires the fi re department connection to be

located on the street side of buildings, but there are situations where

locating the FDC in these locations is unpractical (e.g. large shopping malls),

so solution as A96 are adopted.

Clapet check valve N5

Description

The clapet check valves with N5 rubber-metal seal are single-direction

devices which percent the return of pressurised fl uid.

They are suitable for use in domestic water systems, raised water systems,

fi re protection, central heating and boiler room systems, solar plants, and

water systems for industrial and agricultural applications in general.

The internal hydraulic seal is ensured by the forces exercised by the mass

of a tilting shutter and by the pressure of the liquid above a gasket which

activates the seal, even when subject to minimal back pressure.

Due to the fact that these valves function via the gravitational force that acts

on the tilting shutter (clapet or swing), there is no universal guideline as to

where these should be positioned. The advantage of these valves is the low

incidence of losses of pressure due to the rounded shape of the valve body

and the large passage section which is obtained via the oscillation of the

shutter; these elements also mean that they are extremely quiet.

Installation

The clapet check valves can be installed horizontally or vertically, respecting

the fl ow direction indicated by the arrow stamped on the valve body. In

the horizontal position, the valve must be installed with the inspection cap

facing upwards; otherwise the valve cannot function. In the vertical position,

the valve only operates if the fl ow direction is upwards. The valves are fi tted

onto the piping via threaded attachments, according to normal hydraulic

practice.

Maintenance

Check the valve periodically, in accordance with the frequency of use and

the working conditions. Where there are losses linked to issues with the

gasket seal, these may be caused by deposits or foreign bodies. In such

cases, the inspection cap positioned on the upper part of the valve can be

removed, so that the state of the shutter can be checked and the gasket

can be cleaned, removing impurities with compressed air or mechanically.

This operation can be carried out having previously emptied the section of

the system affected.

*Chapter 7.1.2.1 - Unless the requirements of 7.1.2.2 are met, a wet pipe system shall be

provided with a listed relief valve not less than ½ in. (12mm) in size and

set to operate at 175 psi (12.1 bar) or 10 psi (0.7 bar) in excess of the

maximum system pressure, whichever is greater.

Chapter 7.1.2.3 - A relief valve per 7.1.2.1 shall be required downstream of check valves

Pressure relief valve

The model 7000 and 7200 Pressure Relief Valves are designed specifi cally for all wet fi re sprinkler

systems*. Both models relieve excess system pressure caused by surges or temperature changes.

The Model 7000 and 7200 comply with the requirements of NFPA 13 that stipulate a pressure relief

valve must be installed on all wet systems and downstream of all pressure reducing valves. The

Water Flow Meter

Description

FM approved sprinkler system fl ow meter that can be installed between

fl anges (Firefl ange) or with grooved couplings (FIregroove). Unit includes

integral restrictor and bleed assembly, fi lter and drain assembly plus
