PRINCIPAL’S UPDATE

Hello to all, Ethics Classes

We have a few spaces left for our Kindergarten ethics classes. Please return your note to the office as soon as possible if you would like your kindergarten student to participate.

NAIDOC NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate the history, cultures and achievements of Indigenous people. This year’s theme, ‘Voice. Treaty. Truth - Let’s Work Together for a Shared Future’ recognises the first words spoken on our continent and highlights the languages, culture and knowledge that has been passed down from generation to generation. We are celebrating NAIDOC week with a range of activities on the first Thursday back next term and then again later in the term with a fantastic performance.

Reports Your child will be bringing home their Semester 1 report this week. Please take the time to sit down and read the report with your child so that you can celebrate their achievements with them. I would like to thank all the teachers who have been very busy making sure every report is ready to go. 11th June 2019

NCCD The NCCD is an annual collection of information about Australian school students with disability. The NCCD enables schools, education authorities and governments to better understand the needs of students with disability and how they can be best supported at school.

The following students are examples of those who may be included in the NCCD if they need monitoring and adjustments:

• students with learning difficulties (such as dyslexia)

• students with chronic health conditions (such as epilepsy or diabetes)

I have included more information about the NCCD in this newsletter. If you have any questions about the process after reading the information, please contact me at school.

Even More Debating Success! Ok. Now I just feel like I’m repeating myself! The debating team have been successful once again and are moving into Round Four of the competition. Renna, Sharlotte, Clare and Gabriella took on Kariong Public School on the topic “That we should ban parents from smacking their kids”. The debate was here so in front of a very large audience, our team had to argue the negative position. Yes that’s right-our team argued very successfully that parents should in fact be allowed to smack their kids! It was an exciting debate with some interesting facts and opinions. Congratulations to the girls-and of course to the coach Larny Parkes.

Beautiful Community Space I’m sure most of you would have seen the beautiful new paved area in front of the office with the restored bell taking pride of place. After months of planning, the P&C can proudly stand back and look at what they have achieved. I would personally like to thank the P&C for all of their hard work and the office of Emma McBride for also supporting the project. The official opening will take place during our 50th Anniversary celebration on Saturday 7 September-more details to follow.

School Holidays I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday. I will be on leave for the first week of next term. Carol Williams will be the relieving principal during this time.

Attendance We have 50 students who have had 100% attendance so far! Congratulations! Michelle Francis PRINCIPAL (RELIEVING)

COMMUNITY NEWS

Claim your $100 Creative Kids voucher Parents can now apply for a $100 voucher that will help cover the cost of school-age children’s creative and cultural learning activities.

One voucher is available each year for students aged between 4.5 to 18 years old. Parents can access the rebate online or in person at Service NSW(external link). The vouchers will help parents meet the cost of creative and cultural activities such as music lessons, languages, coding, drama and theatre, photography and graphic design. Research has shown that children’s engagement with creative activities has positive effects on their interpersonal, intellectual, social and emotional development. Minister for Finance, Services and Property Victor Dominello said the NSW Government’s Creative Kids program builds on the success of the Active Kids program(external link). “Involvement in creative and cultural learning activities is critical to a child’s growth and development but the enrolment costs all add to the family budget and can be prohibitive,” Mr Dominello said. “The NSW Government recognises that cost of living is a major issue for families and because of our strong budget position, we are proud to be providing this extra assistance for children to participate in these valuable creative and cultural programs.” Find out more about the Creative Kids program Claim a second Active Kids voucher for your

child The Active Kids program will offer two $100 vouchers a year for each child.

Active Kids allows parents of school-enrolled children to claim two $100 vouchers to use towards sport and active recreation costs each year. This year, the first voucher was available to claim in January. A second voucher will be available via MyService NSW on 1 July 2019. Both vouchers expire on 31 December 2019. Parents can use the vouchers at a registered activity provider(external link). In the first 18 months of the program, more than 1 million vouchers were redeemed and $100 million saved in fees and sports registration costs.

NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said these household savings have contributed to a spike in registrations across NSW. “The NSW Government is doing everything we can to help ease the cost of living for families, and by adding a second $100 voucher we hope to see parents being able to keep their kids active all year-round,” Mr Perrottet said. Minster for Sport John Sidoti said another voucher for kids is another win for families in NSW. “Just as the second Active Kids voucher provides even greater opportunity for children to participate in sport and active recreation, it reduces costs for hard working families,” Mr Sidoti said.
