From the Principal’s Desk I have been on Long Service Leave over the last month but I was back on deck on Monday and am feeling very refreshed and rejuvenated. I spent some time in Queensland catching up with family and a small bit of time in my garden. Thanks to Rebecca Jones for looking after the school so well in my absence and to all staff who supported her over the last few weeks.

Welcome to Casey who has returned to our school after some time in South Australia and Schkaya Smith-Watts who transferred from Warrnambool at the end of term 1. Casey will resume in the Junior school and Schkaya has joined Susan’s group in the middle school.

Thank you to Adam, Graeme and the many supporters who have helped make our new inground trampoline functional and safe, it looks great. Students are able to bounce away as at tomorrow.

Biggest Morning Tea The Biggest Morning Tea was a great success and it was great to see the event so well supported by our community. Thanks to Barb, Julie, Graeme and all the hospitality students for putting on such a great event which raised $235.95 for the Anti-Cancer Council.

We also had our “WOW” Orange Day yesterday to support local emergency services and we raised $42.90. Thanks to everyone who wore orange yesterday.

New Road – Underground Drainage I would like to publicly acknowledge the great job that the Glenelg Shire and Carrs Constructions have done putting the drains underground and widening the road out the front of the school. This project has made access and parking at the school so much safer and easier and everyone in the school community appreciates the effort and investment the Glenelg Shire has made.

Reminders - Curriculum Day Friday June 7 School Council has approved a curriculum day to coincide with the Queen’s Birthday long weekend and there will be no school on this day. Staff will be completing a course on alternative communication systems on this day.

Please return your forms in relation to updating contact details and the visiting dentist on sight.

Also don’t forget we have the Life Education Van, Harold the Giraffe, visiting our school on Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th June.

Hopefully we get a few more of these nice autumn days before winter kicks in! ………… Steve Crossley, Principal. Our school playground area looks amazing. Sand pit, trampoline,

swings and play equipment. Good enough to play on ;)

The little Book Cart “Take it, Read it, Swap It”

Students will be able to take a book home, read it, then return the book to school and exchange for another book. There will be no late fees or charge for lost books. We simply want to give all

of our students a chance to expand their reading material. If you have any good quality children’s books that you no longer use, kind donations would be appreciated.

Portland Bay School would like to extend our sincere thank you to Graeme Golding, Hamilton Steel.

Graeme has custom made a detachable table for Maycie to help her gather ingredients for her cooking classes at Work

Skills in Hamilton. This attachment gives Maycie more independence and confidence in class. Thank you again,

we appreciate your kind support. The chicken coop and

garden plots within our next door neighbors, Portland Community Gardens, are always a

fun visit. Planting time in anticipation for

harvest and daily scraps for the chicken.

All in our extended area, so close and

handy.
