Dante’s Inferno PowerPoint Project Dante travels through nine circles of Hell, observing the punishment of the sinners assigned to

each circle. In Dante’s hell, the punishment fits the crime, and the more severe the sin, the

more severe the punishment. Your task is to assign famous figures of history, literature, and

contemporary culture (alive or dead) to the nine different circles of Dante’s hell and explain

why they should be placed there. You will present your results to the class in the form of a

PowerPoint presentation.

Guidelines for Choosing People:

1. As a group, make a list of the nine circles of Hell. On this list you should:

- Write down the number and name of the circle

- What kind of sinners are punished and how they are punished

- Who you are assigning to that circle of Hell.

- If a circle of Hell is divided into smaller divisions, you can ignore those. Just use the

main circle of Hell.

2. Each group member will be responsible for preparing slides about at least 3 people. There

will be at least 3 members of each group.

3. You must have at least one of each of the following in your project:

- A historical figure who is no longer living (such as Abraham Lincoln, Ronald Reagan)

- A celebrity (athlete, musician, actor, etc.) who is still alive.

- A character from literature or mythology

4. Each group member will create the slides for his or her assigned people.

- For each person, you should have 2-3 specific reasons for assigning that person to

their particular circle of Hell.

Guidelines for the PowerPoint:

Your PowerPoint should have a main introductory slide containing:

1. A creative title

2. An appropriate picture or graphic

3. The names (first and last) of the members of the group

For each circle of Hell, you should have the following kinds of slides:

1. A title slide for the circle that includes:

- The number and name of the circle

- What kind of sinners are punished in this circle

- An appropriate picture or graphic

2. A slide for each person your group assigns to that circle. These slides should include:

- The name of the person

- A picture of the person

- 2-3 bullet points explaining what sins got them assigned to that part of Hell

Additional Instructions:

1. Keep track of all of the web sites you use to find pictures or information. Hand in a typed

website list for the entire group.

2. This website list only needs to include the www address of the web sites.

3. The website list should be typed, using Times New Roman or Arial 12 point font, with the

names of each group member in the upper left hand corner.
