What is the moon?

Your enquired of Job, “Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words

without knowledge? Gird up now thy loins for like a man; for I willdemand of thee, and answer thou me. Where was thou when I laid the

foundations of the earth? Declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hathlaid the measures thereof, if thou knowest or who hath stretched the lineupon it? Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow or hast thou seenthe treasures of the hail which I have reserved against the time of trouble,

against a day of battle and war?” (Job 38:2-6, 22, 23).

“And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, andlet it divide the waters from the water. And God made the firmament,

then divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waterswhich were above the firmament: and it was so.” ((Genesis 1: 6,7).

God, who sees the end from the beginning, had prepared a vast amount ofwater and later used it for the destruction of the world by flood. How

impregnable do you think that barrier had to be in order to keep all that

water above the firmament for over 1,500 years (from the creation of theearth until the flood)?

“ And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the

lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them inthe firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth and to rule over

the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness; andGod saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were thefourth day,” Genesis 1: 16-19. The ‘greater light’ refers to the sun, while

the ‘lesser light’ refers to the moon and stars.

On the sixth day God created man. “So God created man in his own

image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created hethem … and God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was

very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day,” Genesis

1: 27-31. “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and

breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a livingsoul,” Genesis 2: 7. After man sinned, God said to Adam, “In the sweat ofthy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it

wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return,”

Genesis 3: 19.

As man began to multiply upon the earth, so evil multiplied as well, “And

God saw that the wickedness of man was  great in the earth, and that

every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually,”Genesis 6: 5. Righteous Noah warned the world of a coming flood for a

full 120 years. “In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second

month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all thefountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were

opened. And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights,”Genesis 7: 11, 12. That great water that was above the firmamentshowered to earth for 40 days and nights.”

Noah had faithfully warned the world of the coming flood but the wise

men and scientists of the time reviled him and convinced the vast

majority that it was scientifically impossible for the flood to occur forthey had been studying the laws of nature for years. They portrayed Noah

as a fanatic and deceiver and calmed the fear of the people. But the floodcame anyway and swept away both the people and the wise and learned

of that time. Christ gives us a warning. “But as the days of Noe were, soshall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in

marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and knew not until

the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of theSon of man be,” Matthew 24: 37-39.

After the flood, God communicated his will to his faithful ones just as he

had done before the flood, “Surely the Lord God will do nothing but herevealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets,” Amos 3: 7. To

Abraham God showed the countless stars and gave him the promise thathis offspring would be just as vast, “And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to

number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be,” Genesis 15: 5.

In a dream God revealed to Joseph the near future by using the sun, moonand stars as symbols, “And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his

brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me. And he

told it  to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and

said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy

mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee tothe earth?” Genesis 37: 9,10. Here we can see that Jacob well understoodthe dream for he himself had had a similar experience when he dreamed

about the ladder, “And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the

earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of Godascending and descending on it. And, behold, the LORD stood above it,

and said, I am  the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of

Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed,”Genesis 28: 12, 13.

Later in the Bible we see that Joseph’s dream was fulfilled to the letter forhis brethren sold his as a slave. Thus he was taken to Egypt where he

eventually became a great ruler. After some time, his brethren came toEgypt to buy grain because of a great famine in the land; “And Josephwas the governor over the land, and  he it was that sold to all the people ofthe land: and Joseph's brethren came, and bowed down themselves before

him with their faces to the earth,” Genesis 42: 6. Shortly after that, all of

Jacob’s family came to live in Egypt. “All the souls that came with Jacob

into Egypt, which came out of his loins, besides Jacob’s sons’ wives, allthe souls were threescore and six,” Genesis 46: 26.

Now here we must ask ourselves a question; when the Lord showed

Joseph his dream, why did he choose to use the sun, moon and stars assymbols for Jacob, and his wife and brothers? As we read earlier, Godhad set these heavenly lights in the firmament to ‘rule’ the day and the

night, and to divide the darkness from the light. God had assigned duties

to each of these heavenly lights and he ‘saw that it was good’. They wereassigned ‘to divide the day from the night; and let them be for sign and

for seasons, and for days, and years’ Genesis (1: 14). These heavenlylights are to show to the people of the earth the time of day or night and

even year that we live in. If then these heavenly lights play such animportant role in the lives of the inhabitants of this earth, how is it that

the scientists and learned men of this world tell us that there is no lifeupon the moon? As we read earlier, the moon symbolises Jacob’s wifeand Joseph’s mother. In Revelation 12: 1 we read; “And there appeared a

great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon

under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars”. Here we seethat God chose to use this light of heaven symbolically to portray his pure

church. Yet another symbol was shown to John on Patmos; “So he carriedme away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a

scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads

and ten horns. And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour,

and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cupin her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: andupon her forehead was  a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE

GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF

THE EARTH. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of thesaints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I

wondered with great admiration,” Revelation 17: 3-6.

Page 5: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

This woman of Revelation chapter 17 had no heavenly light. She did nothave the light of the sun nor of the moon that she might shine in the

prevailing darkness. Nor does she have the light of the stars. Therefore

she can never be symbolically portrayed as the moon for she has noheavenly light with which to enlighten this world. John saw her drunken

with the blood of the saints and of Christ’s witnesses. This woman is themother o harlots and of the abominations of the world. Now if thiswoman is the mother, then we know that there are other women (orchurches) that, one by one, issued forth from her and that have similar

doctrines that they received from her and carried forth. Since John says

that this woman is the MOTHER, then we can see that she represents the

first Christian church. Those churches that issued forth from her mustthen be the Protestant churches. While it is true that the apostles faithfully

preached a crucified and resurrected Saviour, after their demise, thatchurch felt away from the pure truth and brought in false teachings that

were not based on the Bible. The apostle prophesied concerning thisapostasy. He said; “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin

be revealed, the son of perdition; who opposeth and exalteth himself

above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as Godsitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God,” 2

Thessalonians 2: 3,4. Here we see Paul describing that great apostasy ofthe first Christian church in which sat the man of sin who showed himself

as God, yet Paul aptly call him ‘the man of sin’ and the ‘son of perdition’.Thus after the death of the apostle, this first Christian church corrupted

herself and apostatised, giving birth to other churches that issued for fromher. This mother is the Catholic Church. The man of sin that showedhimself as God is the Pope, who is reputed to be sitting on Peter’s throne

and holding the keys of life and hell – thus insinuating that only through

her can one enter into the kingdom.

As mentioned earlier, the Protestant churches are the daughters of themother – the Catholic Church and John saw her drunken with the blood

of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. During the time

of separation from the mother, the Protestant churches fought for the truth

that they had and God received them as his sons and daughters for theBible calls them ‘saints’ and ‘martyrs’ for Christ. They protested againstcertain Catholic doctrines and attempted to turn the eyes of the people

from the Pope to Christ. The Pope did not die for one sinner and no one

can be saved through him. This truth was declared by the ProtestantChurches. Because of that, The Catholic church persecuted them as

heretics while heaven saw them as saints and martyrs for Christ. The

Pope claims to sit on Peters throne but the apostle Peter never sat on nor

Page 6: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

8/10/2019 Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/daniel-and-revealation-part-2 6/45

lifted up a throne of persecution. He never persecuted anyone nor did hespill anyone’s blood because they believed differently. Quite the contrary

 – Peter himself was persecuted, beaten and thrown in prison because of

his faith. He endorsed faith in no one other than Christ, the crucified andrisen Saviour and in Acts 4: 12 he tells us that, Neither is there salvation

in any other: For there is none other name given among man, whereby wemust be saved”.

The Catholic Church is to be held accountable for millions of lives. Men,

women and little children were tortured with hunger, burned alive and

while families were destroyed in lingering fashion designed to cause the

poor sufferers the utmost pain and anguish where priests and prelateslooked on with obvious delight. No pen can describe the sufferings of

these martyrs for Christ yet all has been faithfully recorded in the booksof heaven that testifies to the vile abuses during the 1260 years of papal

rule.

In Revelation chapter 12 we read of the pure, triumphant woman clothed

with the sun and the moon under her feet, having a crown of 12 stars on

her head. Yet this is the same woman that ‘fled into the wildeness’, shehad a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there ‘a thousand

two hundred and threescore days’ (Revelation 12: 6). Let us look at theword ‘days’ in the verse above that we may rightly understand this period

of time wherein the mother church persecuted those who did not agreewith her teachings. In Ezekiel 4: 6 we read, “… I have appointed thee

each day for a year.” Thus we see that the Bible interprets itself that nonemay be lost. This period then refers to 1260 years of papal rule whereinthe grossest and most inhumane acts were performed against man.

Although heaven’s books have faithfully recorded it all, worldly history

had portrayed a shadow of the events of that time of papal rule that therest of the world calls the Dark Ages. The king of France had given his

word to the Protestants in his realm that they would be safe in his landand have nothing to fear. However, pressured by the heads of the Church

of Rome, he gave his consent to a horrendous act. The bell ringing at

midnight gave the sign to begin the massacre. The Protestants, peacefully

sleeping in their homes, and trustingly abiding in the word of the kingwere dragged from their beds and mercilessly killed. The killing went onfor 3 days and more than 30,000 people perished. The streets of Paris ran

red with the blood of these faithful people. Their Bibles were burned in

the bonfires kindled for just such a purpose. These despicable acts greatlydelighted the Roman hierarchy who declared that day a celebration

because of the murder of these hated innocents. But the evil seed that the

Catholic Church had sown brought a baleful harvest. That spirit of

Page 7: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/daniel-and-revealation-part-2 7/45

darkness which inspired the massacre at St. Bartholomew also inspiredthe French Revolution (1798) in which the Pope himself was captured

and imprisoned. Then were fulfilled the fateful words of the Revelation

13: 10, “He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he thatkilleth with the sword must be killed with the sword”. Unfortunate France

had reaped the harvest she had allowed to be sown in her midst. The waragainst the Bible and the law of God had also banished peace and joy inthe hearts of men so that terror reigned supreme and no one was safe.

Thus testifies the dark history of the Catholic Church or mother church

which still holds in her hands the cup of abomination of her fornication

and impureness with which she makes the inhabitants of the world drunk. That church did not change her character in spite of the fact that, to all

appearances, she is dressed in garments of peace. The great Americanwriter, Ellen G. White faithfully described the evils of the Catholic

Church in her book, ‘The Great Controversy’. The controversy that Satan began in heaven and over which he was banished from that blessedabode, he has continued here on this earth through human beings who

have, either directly or indirectly, consented to be his agents. This is the

battle between truth and error, the battle against the Bible and God’s law, between light and darkness and between the pure woman and the impure

woman of Revelation chapter 17.

It was the union of the Catholic Church and the civil ruling power ofFrance that filled that country with corpses. The Bible prophesied such an

event. In Revelation 11: 7-12 we read; “And when they shall havefinished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pitshall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.

And their dead bodies  shall lie  in the street of the great city, which

spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see

their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves. And they that dwell upon the earth shall

rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another;

because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth. And

after three days and an half the Spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which sawthem. And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come

up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies

 beheld them.”

France gave in to the pressure of the Catholic Church and crucified Christ

afresh in the form of His witnesses. In this text we see that France is

Page 8: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

compared to the corrupt city of Sodom which had filled the cup of themeasure of its iniquity and God destroyed it by fire. “Then the LORD

rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the

LORD out of heaven; and he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, andall the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground,”

Genesis 19: 24, 25. France was also compared to Egypt; “ And Pharaohsaid, Who is  the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? Iknow not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go,” Exodus 5: 2. Thus bothPharaoh and France rejected the testimony of Christ’s witnesses and

proudly rebelled against God in the burning of God’s Word in the old and

new testaments. Catholic priests and prelates sent gifts one to another as a

sign of the greatest joy thinking that they had destroyed forever these twowitnesses (the old and new testament) that had tormented them by

exposing their corruption with which they made drunk the inhabitants ofthe world.

However, these two witnesses were not buried in their graves despite thewishes of the Roman Catholic hierarchy. The Bible lay in the streets ofParis only 3 and ½ days (or 3 and ½ years). The Spirit of God revived

these two witnesses and they stood on their feet. In every age God has

had his faithful people who feared only Him and endeavoured to do onlyhis will while leaving the consequences with Him. After 3 and ½ years,

the Bible began to be translated and printed in various languages and asnever before so that all could obtain it. Then fear came into those that

rejoiced at the burning of that holy book. Now her enemies behold thathated Bible lifted high unto the heavens higher than any other book on

earth.

God has sent the bonds of every church on earth. He has also clearly

stated the conditions for life eternal or for death. He has given her a free

choice that all may chose between life and death. He has given her a freechoice that all may choose between life and death. He is the same and

does not change. Just as to that first sinless pain in the garden of Eden he planted the tree of life next to the tree of the knowledge of good and evil,

so today he has placed before everyone two roads and his clearly marked

each one. He tells us what awaits us at the end of each road and respects

our decision. His law is the great standard by which we will be judged. Thus we all will be weighed in the balances of heaven.

In the first half of the 6th

century, the papacy had deeply entrenched itself

in what was once the Christian church. The Roman Bishop was declaredto be the head of the universal church. No sooner had she achieved civil

power than she began to persecute those that did not accept her doctrines.

Page 9: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/daniel-and-revealation-part-2 9/45

Then began the long period of persecution (the 1260 years), of papaltyranny, so vicious as only Satan himself could instigate. The half

converted brought into the church their false gods – images and relics

before whom all were forced to bow and worship despite God’scommandment, ‘I am the Lord thy God … thou shalt have no other gods

before me … thou shalt not make any graven images or any likeness oranything that is in the heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or thatis in the water under the earth: thou shalt not bow down thyself to themnor serve them, for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God…”. Exodus 20:

1-6. Thus was God’s holy law, written with his own finger, trampled

under foot while in its place were set up empty ceremonies and rituals.

The true Christians did not accept the Pope as the true head of the churchfor they knew that in Ephesians 5: 23 the apostle said, “For the husband is

the head of he wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is thesaviour of the body”.

During that dark era God raised up one reformer after another. Thesewere men who had anchored their faith in Christ alone as their mediator

between God and man. They took the Bible and the Bible only as their

guide in life. They followed in the path of Christ even though it led themto such pain and suffering known to heaven alone. John Wycliffe as the

morning star carried the message of the Reformation. Through histeachings he became the founder of the church of the Puritans. Through

his teaching of salvation through faith in Christ and the infallibility of theWord of God, Protestants arose who decried the abuses of the papacy

which hated the Word of God for it exposed their corruption. Huss,Jerome, Martin Luther, Calvin, Zwingle and others raised their voicesfearlessly against the prevailing corruptions of that day. Thus the world

was being awakened fro its spiritual slumber as from shore to shore and

country to country resounded the cry, ‘Religious liberty!’. There werealso later reformers who stood bravely in defence of the truth – Tyndale

and John Konx, Barnes and Frith, men able to recognise the mystery ofBabylon, and expose it with power. Their loves were made bitter by that

woman that was drunken with the blood of the saints and the martyrs of

Christ (Revelation 17: 5).

O what a great difference there is between the Protestant churches oftoday in this time of religious liberty so dearly bought, and the Protestants

of that time. The difference is as between heaven and earth. The Lutheran

church does not follow in the steps of Luther. The Baptists, Methodists,Presbyterians and other Protestant churches that once defended Bible

truth as the risk of their lives now go hand in hand with the Catholics who

were once their most bitter enemies. Is this reformation or deformation?

Page 10: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

In speaking with an acquaintance, a member of the Presbyterian church, I

learned that on the day that she was wedded to a Catholic, she had to go

against her conscience and promise to raise any children she might havein the Catholic faith. She had often repeated this instance to me and with

tears in her eyes said that whenever she took her child to the Catholicchurch, she felt pangs of guilt for she was preparing her daughter to go toconfession. All this time she well knew that no priest, not even the Popehimself could forgive sins. She knew that forgiveness could only be

obtained through faith in Jesus Christ, the sin pardoning Redeemer. Not

even her Catholic husband believed that he cold obtain forgiveness for his

sins through his Catholic priest yet he persisted in keeping the forms andceremonies. I am also acquainted with this woman’s brother. He married

a Catholic woman and he also had to give his word that he would raisetheir offspring in the Catholic faith. Several days ago I was on television

a Protestant man standing before the Catholic church with his Catholicfiancé, promising to raise their children in the Catholic faith. Thus todayProtestants are enlarging the Catholic Church. Once again I repeat my

question: Is this a reformation or deformation?

How is it that today’s Protestants have so quickly forgotten the massacre

of their forefathers in the streets of Paris? The Catholic Church has notchanged her character. Had God not set her bounds, she would have

continued to persecute and kill those that dare testify to her cup ofabomination of fornication with which she has deceived and made

spiritually drunken the inhabitants of the earth. While the Catholics were burning the Bible and those who defended it, the Protestants were riskingtheir lives in the translation and printing of God’s Word. Their

watchword was Psalm 119: 105, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a

light unto my path”.

The Protestants that were persecuted throughout Europe came to theshores of America and established the foundations of religious  liberty.

Now let is ask ourselves whether or not the Protestants left behind all

their false doctrines when they left the mother church. They had left the

great darkness of Catholicism – could they in that one step have seen allthe light of God’s Word illuminating the way to eternal life? Do theProtestants teach the people as did Christ; “…if thou wilt enter into life,

keep the commandments” (Matthew 19: 17)? In the last page of the Bible

we read, “blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may haveright to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city,”

Revelation 22: 14.

Page 11: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

Many Christians believe that the Old Testament is the for the Jews whilethe New testament applies to the Christians. However, the zealous

searcher for the truth will find that, in the Old and the New testaments a

perfect harmony exists. The book of the prophet Daniel prophesied anddescribed the papal supremacy and the destruction of God’s people. In

Daniel 7: 25 we read, “and he shall speak great words against the mostHigh, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to changetimes and laws: and they shall be given into his hands until a time andtimes and the dividing of time.” Here we can see that a power is

prophesied that would persecute the faithful ones of earth. The verse said

that the persecuting power would have the supremacy for ‘a time and

times and the dividing of time’. A ‘time’ refers to one Jewish year or 360days. A ‘time’ is one year, ‘times’ is two years and the ‘dividing of time’

refers to half a year. Thus we see that the prophesy refers to a 3 and ½year period. Keeping in mind the Bible’s interpretation of prophetic time

(a day for a year), we see that the prophesy refers to the 1,260 year periodthat we read in the book of Revelation. Thus the Bible not only interpretsitself but confirms itself. We also read that this power would ‘think to

change times and laws’. Wen God created our world, He set down certain

laws. In the book of Genesis 1: 5, 8, 13 we read, and the evening and themorning were the first day … and the evening and the morning were the

morning were the second day … and the evening and the morning werethe third day.” God had said that the day ends at sunset. The Pope said

that the day ends at midnight. In Leviticus 23: 32 God said, “from evenunto even shall ye celebrate your Sabbath”. Daniel said that this power

would ‘think to change the times and laws’. When that ‘man of sin’ sat inthe church of God (as prophesied by Paul in Thessalonians 2: 4), heclaimed to have changed God’s law. If one were to enter a Catholic

Church and begin to count the images, forms and relics representing men

long dead in their graves, before which people bow and worship and prayto, one would no doubt run out of fingers. This is nothing other than a

calloused rebellion against the law of God who said: “Thou shalt notmake unto thee any graven image or any likeness…”, (Exodus 20: 4). He

who claims to be the vicegerent of Christ on earth, who still presumes

infallibility and claims to sit on Peter’s throne and in God’s church, had

dared to trample under foot God’s holy law. Thus, according to that holylaw, he will be weighed in the heavenly balances and will be repaidaccording to his deeds.

What did the Catholic Church do with the 4th  commandment?

“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour,

and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy

God: in it  thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter,

Page 12: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that[is] within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth,

the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the

LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it”, Exodus 20: 8-11. Nowlet us look and see what that ‘man of sin’ did with the 6

th commandment

 – particularly during the 1260 years of his supremacy. God had said;“Thou shalt not kill”, Exodus 20: 13. Yet the Catholic Church killedmillions of Protestants.

Thus it is easy to see that the prophecies of Daniel and John the Revelator

were fulfilled during those 1260 years in the Christian era. Neither Christ

not his disciples ever kept Sunday as the Lord’s day. Sunday is the firstday of the work week. It is of pagan origin and is dedicated to the sun

god. Pagans observed the day of the sun god hundreds of years beforeChrist, for the Bible faithfully recorded the backslidings of God’s people

with respects to pagan gods. The prophet Ezekiel was shown this invision (Ezekiel 8: 16), “…and, behold, at the door of the temple of theLORD, between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men,

with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and their faces toward

the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east.” Just as paganismcrept in among God’s people before Christ, so it was after Christ, for the

apostle prophesied; “Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them,” Acts 20: 30.

It was not until 321 years after Christ that King Constantine, a halt –

converted christian king declared that the day of the sun or Sunday beworshipped as the Lord’s day. Farmers were exempted from thatcommand, however, for they had animals and crops to tend. It was not

until the 6th  century after Christ that the 7

th  day Sabbath that was

hallowed of God, was completely rejected and the 1st day of the week was

placed in its stead as the Lord’s day. The 7th day Sabbath does not belong

merely to the Jews for it was founded at the very beginning of this worldlong before there was ever a Jewish nation. God hallowed and sanctified

that day as a sign and celebration of creation, “Thus the heavens were

finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his

work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all hiswork which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, andsanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God

created and made,” Genesis 2: 1-3. Later, after the Jewish nation has been

in slavery in Egypt for 400 years, and had well nigh lost sight of the lawof God, He once again repeated his law – the ten commandments. In

Exodus 31: 15-18, God further articulated the 4th  commandment

concerning the 7th day Sabbath, “Six days may work be done; but in the

seventh is  the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. Wherefore the

children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath

throughout their generations,  for   a perpetual covenant. It is  a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD

made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and wasrefreshed. And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end ofcommuning with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tablesof stone, written with the finger of God.”

Now let us again ask ourselves the question; when the Protestants

separated from the mother church, did they leave behind all the falsedoctrines of that church? Why then do the Protestant churches worship on

the 1st day of the week (Sunday) instead of the Bible Sabbath or 7

th day?

When King Constantine, under the direction of the so-called Christian

leadership of that day, issued the command to observe Sunday as theLord’s day, was that a union of church and state? Are the churches oftoday separated from the state? Was it a civil power or a church power

that instituted Sunday as a day of rest in this country? Who is again

clamouring to apply pressure to statesmen to institute Sunday closinglaws? In communist countries the majority of people claim to be atheists.

Why then is it that they observe Sunday as a day to close shops andrefrain from work? Is not this a day instituted by Christians 321 years

after Christ? If today the civil authorities of a large country would issue acommand that all its citizens observe Sunday, the 1

st day of the week in

honour of Christ’s resurrection, would that be a union of church and statesince Sunday was first instituted by a church? If this does happen againand history repeats itself, what would happen to those who, like apostles

said, “…whether it be right in the sight of God to harken unto you more

than unto God, judge ye.” Will the incident of the massacre of the nightof St Bartholomew be repeated – perhaps, this time, throughout the

world? It is not the duty of every Christian to study God’s Word and onthe basis of that word to determine whether the doctrines he cherished are

founded on a firm ‘thus saith the Lord’? Why does the lord say, ‘My

people are destroyed for lack of knowledge’ (Hosea 4: 6)?

If today a modern day Luther would nail a piece of paper to the door of aProtestant church citing 90 points wherein the Protestant church was in be

the reaction of that Protestant church? Would this Protestant church

manifest the same spirit toward this modern day Luther as wasmanifested by the Catholic Church toward the Protestants? Would this

modern day Luther also be labelled a ‘heretic’? Do the daughters inherit

the character of their mother? In reading about the reformers who were as

Page 14: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

bright stars in the darkest night, we find that their lives were made bitternot only by the Catholics around them but, especially in the case of later

reformers, by the Protestants as well. Wycliffe lived in the 14th century in

England but he was the voice for all Christianity. Luther enlightenedGermany with his teachings while John Knox boldly defended the gospel

in Scotland. Calvin in France and Zwingle in Switzerland raised theirvoices at the peril of their lives but awakened the people to study God’sword and to awaken and come out of the spiritual darkness that engulfedthem due to the papal rule. The Bible is the inexhaustible fountain of the

purest water that is able to quench the thirst of the whole world.

However, not one church or group or individual has a monopoly on it, or

on the truth. In 2 Peter 1: 19-21 we read, “We have also a more sure wordof prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that

shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in yourhearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any

private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the willof man: but holy men of God spake as they were  moved by the HolyGhost.” And the apostle Paul adds, “all scripture is given by inspiration of

God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for

instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works,” 2 Timothy 3: 16, 17. The

Bible was inspired by the Holy Spirit and it is God’s property. That Bibleis the heavenly scale that will rightly condemn the sinner and we will all

 be weighted in its balances.

Some literature of early American religious history contains the story ofWilliam Miller, and American reformer in the Protestant church. WilliamMiller was raised as a Baptist but as a young he fell among deist friends

and was led ti believe as they believed. Finally, at 34 years of age, the

Holy Spirit awakened his conscience and impressed on him the fact thathe was a sinner. He felt uncertain about death and its aftermath and could

find no assurance of future happiness. Thus he continued for some time.Of this time he writes, “Annihilation was a cold and chilling thought, and

accountability was sure destruction to all. The heavens were as brass over

my head, and the earth as iron under my feet. Eternity--what was it? And

death--why was it? The more I reasoned, the further I was fromdemonstration. The more I thought, the more scattered were myconclusions. I tried to stop thinking; but my thoughts would not be

controlled. I was truly wretched, but did not understand the cause. I

murmured and complained, but knew not of whom. I knew that there wasa wrong, but knew not where or how to find the right. I mourned, but

without hope.”

Page 15: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

Then, “suddenly”, he wrote, “the character of a Saviour was vividlyimpressed upon my mind. It seemed that there might be a being so good

and compassionate as to himself atone for our transgressions, and thereby

save us from suffering the penalty of sin.”

Just as daughters inherit traits from their mothers, so nearly all theProtestant churches brought with them certain doctrines andcharacteristics that they cherish but that are in error. During the DarkAges, the Catholic Church manufactured the doctrine of the immortality

of the soul. In order to fill the coffers of the cardinals and bishops and

erect stately and magnificent edifices, the poor and uneducated were

relieved of their funds by the invention and sale of indulgences. Thus, after death, in order to avoid purgatory, a sulphurous, burning place of

torment where he would suffer until fully purged from his sins and thengo to heaven, a few coins in the coffers of the church would provide a

quick escape for the helpless victim. Many payed large sums of money tothe church in order to redeem their loved ones who had passed away outof purgatory and into the blissful land above. The invention worked, for

the Catholic Church and its hierarchy became quite rich. Luther stood

boldly against this doctrine and exposed it for what it was. In his day,Tetzel, a church magistrate went from town to town raising money for the

Catholic Church. Tetzel even boldly declared that the moment that coinhit the coffer, the soul of the beloved would waft its way upward. Thus

the great cathedrals and stately spires of their edifices were made possible because of this false doctrine. Yet that doctrine had existed thousands of

years before the Catholic Church was founded. It fist issued from himwho said, ‘thou shalt not surely die’ to Eve and bade her eat the fruit.Miller believed this doctrine of the immortality of the soul and, seeing

himself as a sinner, he had nothing to look forward to but indescribable

torment.

This doctrine, however, is not based on Bible truth. Those who believe init claim that the verses in the book of Luke 16: 19-31 uphold this

teaching. Christ often spoke in parables so that the people might better

understand the great truths that pertain to their salvation. If this parable

was intended to be taken literally, the all the righteous that die will go to‘Abraham’s bosom’. That will have to be a very large bosom.Furthermore, how is it that Lazarus, a poor man goes into the bosom of a

very rich man – Abraham, for the Bible says; “And Abraham was very

rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold,” Genesis 13: 2? A further indicationthat this parable is not to be taken literally can be seen in the words, “he

lifted up his eyes”. If we are to interpret this literally, then the rich man

had his physical body down in ‘hades’ also. This goes against the popular

Page 16: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

8/10/2019 Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/daniel-and-revealation-part-2 16/45

Christian belief in the immortality of the soul, for Christians believe thatonly the soul lives on and not the body.

The greatest reason for not interpreting this parable literally is that it doesnot conform to the Biblical teaching of death. In Ecclesiastes 9: 5 we

read; “For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know notanything, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them isforgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that

is done under the sun.” Also, of king David, who had died hundreds of

years before Christ, the apostle Peter said, “David is not ascended into

heavens..”, Acts 2: 34. Thus we see that David, a righteous king was notascended into heavens but still slept in the earth. He, along with the

righteous dead sleep in the earth until, “the Lord himself shall descendfrom heaven with a shout with the voice of the archangel, and with the

trump of God and the dead in Christ shall rise…” 1 Thessalonians 4: 16.

If we have spiritual eyesight, we would be able to discern the truth that

the Holy Spirit inspired men of old to write for our admonition. We read

that spiritual things are spiritually discerned. Thus we need spiritualeyesight or in other words, we need to be controlled by the same Holy

Spirit that inspired the writers of the Bible. In order to understand the book, it is best to be under the direction of the author of the book.

Righteous Job gave expression to the strength of his faith by saying, “For

I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter dayupon the earth, and through after my skin worms destroy this body, yet inmy flesh shall I see God, whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes

shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me”,

Job 19: 25-27. Of the resurrection, the Apostle Paul says, “for the Lordhimself shall descend from heaven with a shout with the voice of the

archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall risefirst: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with

them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air; and so shall we ever be

with the Lord”, 1 Thessalonians 4: 16, 17. Here we see that Paul testifies

that when Christ comes again in glory, the ‘dead in Christ’ (or the faithfuldead) would resurrect from the grave, and Job tells us that this will be a physical resurrection of the body. Thus we see that the dead saints will

physically and in their bodies resurrect and meet the Lord in the air. If it

is true, as many Christians claim, that the soul of the righteous dead waftsits way to heaven upon dying, or, if wicked, it is plunged into hell or

purgatory, where then is the need for Christ to come again and ‘reward

every man according to his works’ (Matthew 16: 27)? At Christ’s

Page 17: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

ascension, did not the angels say, “Ye men of Galilee, why stand yegazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into

heaven, shall come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven”,

Acts 1: 11? Thus the angels testified that Christ physically and in hisearthly body resurrected and ascended to heaven. Now that same Christ

said, “…and if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, andreceive you unto myself; that were I am, there ye may be also”, John14:3. Also, in 1 Corinthians 15: 20 we see that, “now is Christ risen fromthe dead, and became the firstfruits of them that slept”. Thus, it is clear

that as Christ resurrected physically and ascended to heaven in a physical

body, He being the firstfruits, so those who follow in His path on this

earth will experience the same physical resurrection and ascension in the body. And as mentioned above, both Job and the Apostle Paul testify to

this.

Thus in the few verses above it is clear to see that in the parable ofLazarus, Christ was not speaking merely of ectoplasmic spirits in flames, but of the whole being of Lazarus and the rich man. “There was a certain

rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared

sumptuously every day, and there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, and desiring to be fed with the

crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table, moreover the dogs came andlicked his sores. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was

carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, andwas buried; and in hell he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and seeth

Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said,Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dipthe tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in

this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime

receivedst thy good things, likewise Lazarus, evil things, but now he iscomforted, and thou art tormented,” Luke 16: 19-25. Christ chose to

present this parable to show that those who are physically prospered onearth are not necessary those whom God approves of. Men look on the

outward appearance but God looked on the heart. Christ in this parable

chose Abraham because the Jews prided themselves on being the

offspring of the seed of Abraham. They saw themselves as thoseinnumerable stars that God showed to Abraham in Genesis 15: 5. Thiscan easily be seen in John 8: 39, 40, “they answered and said unto him,

Abraham is our father. Jesus said unto them, if ye were Abraham’s

children, ye would do the works of Abraham. But now ye seek to kill me,a man that hath told you the truth which I have heard of God: this did not

Abraham.” In the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, Christ merely

wanted to portray the end of the rich who did not love their neighbour as

Page 18: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

themselves. The Catholic Church has used this parable and taken it out ofits original sphere to justify its own doctrines – to implant within the

hearts of the people the belief that there is a place of great torment for

sinners when they die, and that only through the meditation of theCatholic priest, can these souls be released. With this doctrine, they place

themselves in a position of utmost power with the common man at theirmercy. We must also remember that at the time this doctrine was firsttaught, the common man was illiterate. What’s more, all the Bibles weretaken away from the people under the pretence that common man could

not rightly interpret that which the Holy Spirit had inspired. But this

excuse is not sanctioned by the Bible for Christ said, “I thank thee, O

Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things fromthe wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. Even so, Father:

for so it seemed good in thy sight”, Mathew 11: 25, 26.

It is true that the impenitent sinner will in the end be punished with fire. The Bible says, “for behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an ovenand all the proud, yea and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble; and the

day that cometh shall burn them up saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall

leave them neither root not branch” Malachi 4: 1. While it is true that thewicked will be punished, not in the verse above the words, ‘…the day

cometh…’. This applies that there is a day appointed when the earth will be cleansed by fire, just as it was once cleansed by water. The Apostle

Peter writes, “for this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word ofGod the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and

in the water: whereby the world that was, being overflowed with water, perished: but the heaven and the earth, which are now, by the same wordare kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgement and

perdition of ungodly men”, 2 Peter 3: 5-7. How is it that the pope who

claims to sit on Peter’s throne does not teach as Peter taught? Petercontinues and writes, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise …

but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, butthat all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a

thief in the night in which heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and

the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that

are therein shall be burned up. Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for a new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness”,2 Peter 3: 9, 10, 13.

Why is it that Christians will not take their Bible in their hands and, leaving behind all their prejudices, examine closely their particular

doctrines in the light of God’s Word? Many Protestant Churches still hold

to doctrines taught them by the mother church or Catholic Church. Many

Page 19: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

Christians claim that merely believing in God is enough to take them toheaven. However, since these have the truth at their fingertips but have

neglected to avail themselves of it, the words of the Apostle Peter apply

to them, “they are willingly ignorant”. God has preserved his Word oftruth throughout the generations that we might freely obtain it. Today,

many Christians homes have two or three Bibles but no one reads them.More that 150 years have passed since Protestants would often meetduring the week to study God’s word. Yet many of these good traditionshave now disappeared. All other books are freely read but the Bible.

Hence God’s words, “my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge,

because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee,” Hosea 4: 6.

As we had previously mentioned, around 1831, God inspired William

Miller to become an American reformer to the Protestant Churches. Ofhis message we read, “and I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven

having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue and people, saying with aloud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him for the hour of his judgement

is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and

the fountains of waters”, Revelation 14: 6, 7. The message of the hour ofGod’s judgement was preached in all the Christian lands. However, it was

preached most fervently in America, where the greatest number ofProtestants, whose forefathers sought to escape religious persecution,

came and established religious freedom.

Had the Protestant churches accepted the message of the hour of judgement; they would have been led to reject the false doctrine of theimmortality of the soul, for the ‘hour of his judgement’ refers to a set

time. Thus William Miller, using the Ezekiel 4: 6 explanation of a day in

Bible prophecy symbolising a year, studied the 2,300 day prophecy endedin 1842. In Daniel 8: 14 we read, “and he said unto me, Unto two

thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed”.William Miller, in accordance with the popular beliefs of his time,

believed the ‘sanctuary’ to refer to this earth. Even today, many church

members refer to their place of worship as the ‘sanctuary’. Thus William

Miller came to the conclusion that in 1843. Christ would come andcleanse this earth by fire. In the book The Great Controversy, we read ofhim; “With intense interest he studied the books of Daniel and the

Revelation, employing the same principles of interpretation as in the

other scriptures, and found, to his great joy, that the prophetic symbolscould be understood. Angels of Heaven were guiding his mind, and

opening to his understanding prophecies which had ever been dark to

God's people. Link after link of the chain of truth rewarded his efforts;

Page 20: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

step by step he traced down the great lines of prophecy, until he reachedthe solemn conclusion that in a few years the Son of God would come the

second time, in power and glory, and that the events connected with that

coming and the close of human probation would take place about the year1843 … And now the duty of making known to others what he believed

to be so clearly taught in the Scriptures, urged itself with new force uponhim. "When I was about my business," he said, "it was continuallyringing in my ears, Go and tell the world of their danger. This text wasconstantly occurring to me: 'When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man,

thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his

way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require

at thine hand. Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turnfrom it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but

thou hast delivered thy soul.' [EZE. 33:8, 9.] I felt that if the wickedcould be effectually warned, multitudes of them would repent; and that if

they were not warned, their blood might be required at my hand.” Nevertheless, he waited nine years until 1831, when he finally began to bring forth before the people the basis for his beliefs.

God has had his messengers in every generation. Through them he hassent warnings to his people as can easily be seen in the Old Testament. In

2 Chronicles 36: 15, 16 we read, “And the Lord God of their fathers sentto them by his messengers, rising up bedtimes, and sending; because he

had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place, but theymocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his

prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people till therewas no remedy”. Also in Matthew 23: 37, 38 we read, “O Jerusalem,Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stones them which are sent

unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as

a hen gathered her chickens under her wings, and ye would not”.

God did not do less for his people in the Christian era. First He sent Johnthe Baptist, Christ’s predecessor, then Christ Himself came, and his

disciples continued the work after Him taking the message to both Jews

and Gentiles. Yet we see that as it was in Old Testament times, so it was

in the Christian era-church leadership would reject God’s messengers. One by one they were mocked, ridiculed, rejected and persecuted by themajority while a small minority would accept the message and carry on

the work.

Had the people of God been faithful to his commandments, there would

have been no need for a messenger to come with warnings and entreaties.

God would gladly have led them into all the truth as they were able to

(Daniel 8: 14)

Thus William Miller and his followers believed that the word ‘sanctuary’

referred to this earth and came to conclusion that his earth would be

cleansed by fire in 1843 (later when Christ did not come when expected, they saw that the command to rebuild Jerusalem was actually issued in

the late fall of 457 BC bringing the expected date of Christ’s coming to

1844). This belief cause them to question the doctrine of the thousandyear millennium of peace and plenty they had once believed and they

rejected it as unscriptural. When the leaders of the Protestant churches

saw true excitement in reference to the date, they tried to squelch themessage. They closed their doors to William Miller and his followers. They forbade their membership to attend or listen to talks concerning the

coming of Christ. Those who had already received the message and were

sharing it with others were disfellowshipped from their churches. Parentsforbade their children to attend those mettings. Husbands forbade wivesto listen to sermons on the day and hour of Christ’s coming. Although no

one could Biblically prove that William Miller’s time reckoning waswrong, most denied that Christ would come then but merely said that

some important event would then take place. Although the message itself

was misunderstood by the messengers, the results of accepting orrejecting this message could clearly be seen. Those who rejected the

Page 23: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

teachings of William Miller and his followers became hardened andlackadaisical concerning the truths of the Bible. Those who accepted the

teaching of William Miller rejected the false doctrines of the immortality

of the soul and the thousand year millennium of peace and plenty.Furthermore, they humbled themselves before God and sought as never

before victory over every sinful habit and a spotless and pure character.Long nights were spent in prayer for themselves and for loved ones. With joy unspeakable they took up the duties of another day firmly believingthemselves one day closer to seeing their Redeemer, the One whom their

soul longed for.

The question arises, how could God’s power have attended the message ifit was misunderstood? Yet we can see that even John the Baptist did not

understand his message. He too was blinded by the prevailing falsedoctrines for he also expected Christ to liberate the Jews from Roman

rule and to set up a temporal kingdom. Did this nullify John the Baptist’smessage? No. We see that God’s people of that time were awakened tochoose between truth and error, between life and death. As a matter of the

fact, very few messengers of the Bible fully understood their own

message. So it was in William Miller’s time. The Protestant churches(then God’s people) were awakened to choose between life and death,

between going on in their false doctrines or rejecting them.

Thus we can see how history is repeated in every age. The leadership ofthe churches were never ready to accept new light – light that might

shake up the churches to the extent that their position in their churchmight not be secure. Nor was it about to reject false doctrines after it hadspent considerable years teaching them for they feel they would then

loose the admiration of the people. No, not many church leaders today are

willing to accept warnings and rebuke from the lips of God’s messengers – messengers with such a solemn message that the Bible portrays them as

angels flying in the midst of heaven (Revelation 14: 6, 8, 9), messengerswho stand on an equal part with Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel,

Amos, etc… Before Christ’s second coming, no one will have an excuse

for rejecting these messengers for their messages have been clearly

depicted in the Bible.

As mentioned earlier, William Miller proclaimed the message of the day

and hour of Christ’s coming (Revelation 14: 6, 7). As a result of the

majority of the Protestant churches’ rejection of the message, CharlesFitch proclaimed the message of the fall of Babylon (Revelation 14: 8) as

applying to the Protestant churches. As a result of that message about

50,000 people left their Protestant churches and began to meet with like

Page 24: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

believers. They studied the prophecies and prepared themselves to meetChrist in the clouds of heaven. According to the time reckoning Christ

was to come October 22, 1844, for that was when the ‘sanctuary’ would

be ‘cleansed’. God sends his messengers to test and purify the church. Thus it was in William Miller’s day. Those who accept the message

rejected false teachings that they had unknowingly taken from theCatholic Church. They confessed and repented of every known sin andcleansed their hearts. A reformation for wrought. The majority thatrejected the message stubbornly clung to the false doctrines in spite of the

truth of the message and were, in the end, rejected by God. They were left

in darkness with the false doctrines they so cherished, gotten from their

mother, the Catholic Church.

But the time passed and Christ did not come as the faithful ones hadexpected. Of the 50,000 people that had left the Protestant churches, a

very large majority abandoned their faith and became the greatestmockers of the faithful few who continued to search the Scriptures to findout why Christ did not come. Over and over again they went down the

prophetic chain but could find no fault in it. They new that the fault was

not with God, but they did not know where they erred in theirunderstanding of the message. Then they took a closer look at the event

that they believed would take place at the end of the prophetic time. Theystudied the word ‘sanctuary’. Thus they went back to the time of Moses

and studied the building and the daily and yearly events of the sanctuaryservices of the Old Testament. They also considered the ceremonial laws

concerning the sacrifices. They saw Christ depicted in the sacrifice. Theyalso saw that since throughout the year, the sins committed by Israel had been transferred by the blood of the sacrificial offerings to the sanctuary

including the Most Holy place before the veil, once a year on the Day of

Atonement, the sanctuary would be ceremonially cleansed of those sins. Two goats were chosen (one to symbolise Christ and the other Satan).

The goat representing Christ was sacrificed on the alter while the goatrepresenting Satan was taken into the wilderness thus representing the

eternal separation of sin from God’s people and from the sanctuary

(Leviticus 16). They studied the sanctuary further in the New Testament.

Hebrews 9: 3, 4 states, “and after the second veil, the tabernacle which iscalled the Holiest of all; which had the golden censer, and the ark of thecovenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that

had manna and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant”.

And verse 24 and 28 of the same chapter state that, “…Christ is notentered into the holy place made with hands, which are the figures of the

true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us.

So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many, and unto them that

Page 25: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”Thus the faithful of God saw that the earthly sanctuary of Moses’ time

was but a ‘figure’ of the true sanctuary up in heaven. They also saw that

Christ, after his ascension to heaven, became our high priest in the firstcompartment of the heavenly sanctuary, a mediatorial work of which

Aaron’s duty was but a faint shadow.

Then they understood that the cleansing of the sanctuary spoken of byDaniel the prophet did not refer to the cleansing of this earth by fire, but

to the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary. They saw that, as Aaron

entered into the Most Holy place once a year to cleanse the earthly

sanctuary, so in 1844, Christ entered into the Most Holy place of theheavenly sanctuary (spoken of in Hebrews 9) to cleanse it.

This small group of believers continued to study the word of God and by

faith they entered into the Most Holy place in the sanctuary above. Theysaw that if the earthly sanctuary was but a copy of the heavenlysanctuary, then the table of God’s commandments did not apply to the

Jews alone but to all mankind for we will all be judged by them. Thus in

taking a closer look at the ten commandments, they were surprised to findthat the true Sabbath is the 7

th day Sabbath, and not Sunday as they had

theretofore believed. They then saw that they had been keeping the papalSabbath instituted in 321 AD and readily embraced the Biblical Sabbath.

This in turn led them to see that they had been bowing to the man of sinin keeling the day of his devising. Thus although they lived through the

first and second angel’s messages, they were now led to understand thethird angel’s message, “and the third angel followed them, saying withthe loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive

his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, the same shall drink of the wine

of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup ofhis indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the

presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb: and thesmoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever; and they had no

rest day or night who worship the beast and his image and whosoever

receiveth the mark of his name. Here is the patience of the saints and here

are they that keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus”,Revelation 14: 9-12.

These messengers expose false teachings that have crept in among God’s

people. The messages are designed to be just the light needed for the timein which they are proclaimed. Those who accept these messages will

reject the false doctrines that they had theretofore not seen. Thus it is the

messenger with his message that exposes the doctrines not founded on

Page 26: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

Bible truth. In the Bible we can find many incidents where God punishedhis people and the gentiles for their rebellion. Yet all these punishments

were mingled with mercy. However, in the message of the third angel we

find this punishment is ‘poured out without mixture into the cup of hisindignation’. When the peoples of the earth hear this final warning of

mercy given by the third angel and reject it, then probation will be closedand the time of mercy will be no more. This cup of God’s wrathmentioned is the third angel’s message is the 7 plagues described inRevelation chapter 16.

In Revelation 15: 2 we read, “and I was as it were a sea of glass mingled

with fire and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his

image, and over his mark , and over the number of his name, stand onthe sea of glass, having the harps of God”. Furthermore, in Revelation13:18 we read, “here is wisdom, let him that hath understanding count the

number of the beast; for it is the number of a man; and his number is six

hundred threescore and six”. Thus we see that the truly faithful who wantto be overcomers and to enter heaven must be victorious over the

BEAST, his IMAGE, his MARK, and his NUMBER.

What is this beast that every true believer must conquer? The prophet

Daniel saw four beasts and described them in the 7th

 chapter of his book,

“the first was like a lion, the second like a bear, the third like a leopardand the fourth which was ‘dreadful and terrible… and it had great iron

teeth’,” (Daniel 7: 4-7). These four beasts were also portrayed to Danielin the figure of the great image in the king Nebuchadnezzar’s dream.

Daniel explained to the king the meaning of the image and its various parts (Daniel 2: 31-45).

But the characteristics mentioned in the four beasts and rhe great imagedivided into four part kingdoms are also described in Revelation 13: 1-10,

“and the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as

the feet of a bear, and his mouth as a mouth of a lion”. Here we see thatthe feet of the beats was as the feet of a bear. In Daniel 7: 5, we see that

the bear represented the kingdom of Medopersia. This kingdom broughtdown the Babylonian kingdom which had taken Israel captive, burned

Jerusalem and knocked down the temple that Solomon built. Israel was

kept in captivity by Babylon for 70 years. When the king of Medopersiacame to reign, Israel was then set free and the remnant of the people

returned and rebuilt Jerusalem. The Grecian empire conquered

Page 27: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/daniel-and-revealation-part-2 27/45

Medopersia and finally, the Roman empire which is the 4th

beast orkingdom conquered the Grecian empire and became the next world

power. By the time Christ was born, the Roman empire had ruled over

Jerusalem for 100 years. However, it should be noted that these fourkingdoms would never be a part of Biblical history if they had not in any

way affected God’s people. The characteristics of the 4

kingdomsmentioned also describe God’s people for it is often the case that thespirit of this world influences God’s church.

In order to prove the above statement as true, let us look at the king of

Babylon and the Jewish people that lived in his day. Concerning Israel we

read in 2 Chronicles 36: 15-17, “And the LORD God of their fathers sentto them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he

had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place: But theymocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and misused his

prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till therewas  no remedy. Therefore he brought upon them the king of theChaldees, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their

sanctuary, and had no compassion upon young man or maiden, old man,

or him that stooped for age: he gave them all into his hand. ”. Also Christcried, “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets and stones

them which were sent unto thee…”, (Matthew 23: 37).

Now concerning the king of Nebuchadnezzar we read, “…,the most highGod gave Nebuchadnezzar thy father a kingdom, and majesty, and glory,

and honour: And for the majesty that he gave him, all people, nations, andlanguages, trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew; andwhom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he set up; and whom

he would he put down. But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind

hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they tookhis glory from him: And he was driven from the sons of men; and his

heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses:they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of

heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men,

and that  he appointeth over it whomsoever he will. And thou his son, O

Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this; But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy

wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast

praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath

is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified,” (Daniel 5: 18-23).

Page 28: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

Thus we can clearly see that both the Babylonian king and the Jewish people have the same characteristics at the same time. This is why the

characteristics of the beast and the great image depicts both worldly

kingdoms and God’s people. After the Babylonian kingdom wassucceeded by the Medopersian kingdom, king Cyrus allowed Jewish

slaves to return to their homeland and made provisions for the rebuildingof Jerusalem. Also, the cups and pots of gold that were used in the templeservices and that were taken by King Nebuchadnezzar, were returned toJerusalem and there once again used in the renewed temple services. The

Jews were also allowed to govern themselves. As the Jewish nation grew

and prospered once more, so the Grecian kingdom conquered the

Medopersian kingdom and grew and prospered. As the Jewish nationonce more rejoiced in its embellish city, so Alexander the Great rejoiced

and feasted because of his conquests. But he was deposed by the Romankingdom, which also captured Jerusalem. Thus, more than 100 years

before the birth of Christ, Jerusalem was under Roman rule. The Romankingdom is symbolised by the dreadful beast that Daniel could notcompare to and other beast he had ever seen. This beast trampled upon

the people of God and stamped the residue with its feet. Considering

Christ’s mission, His crucifixion, and the persecution suffered by thedisciples and apostles that continued His work, was the spirit of

persecution stronger in the civil authority of Rome, or with the Jewishleadership? The Roman governor claimed to find no fault in Christ

although he was willing to have him chastised and freed. However, theJewish leadership clamoured louder and louder for His blood. Here once

again we see that the spirit of worldly rulers permeates through God’schurch – that church leaders, in their struggle for power, make themselvesas gods to their members.

Now this description of the beasts Daniel saw are given that we might better understand the beast of Revelation – yet not only the beast but also

its mark, image and number (666). In the above comparisons we can wellsee that the beasts shown to Daniel represent not only civil powers but

also religious powers. Civil laws are not to contradict God’s law. Also,

churches are not to cherish or teach any creed or doctrine or law that is

not upheld by the Word of God. God had given the church its creed in HsWord and it is not to set up another. It is merely to decide whether it willaccept His Word or reject it. God gives no one, neither church nor state,

the authority to withhold His Word from the people. His Word is His

property alone, and He has given it to all the inhabitants of this earth. It isan inexhaustible fountain of life from which all have the right to drink.

Neither the church nor the state has the right to forbid individuals to dig

deeper into His Word that the leaders of our churches have done. No one

Page 29: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

8/10/2019 Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/daniel-and-revealation-part-2 29/45

has the right to try to close this fountain of life to any other church orindividual. Thus, God’s Word is His property and the Holy Spirit aids the

true searcher of the Bible in his understanding of that guide to heaven.

Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the Apostle Paul wrote, “Let

every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but ofGod: the power that be are ordained of God… for rulers are not terror togood works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then be afraid of the power? Dothat which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same … for he is a

minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil,”

Romans 13: 1-4. If the whole world had kept God’s law, there would

have been no need for civil powers. But God, who sees the end from the beginning, foresaw that the nations as well as the churches would reject

His law. Let us look at the example of Christ’s trial and compare the civiland religious powers. “And Pilate, when he had called together the chief

priests and the rulers and the people, said unto them; Ye have brought thisman unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and behold, I, havingexamined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those

things whereof ye accuse him: No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him;

and, lo nothing worthy of death is done unto him. I will therefore chastisehim, and release him… and Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they

required,” Luke 23: 13-16, 24.

Thus we can clearly see that civil power of that time (Roman governor)was influenced by the main leaders of God’s church at that time. Civil

power bowed to the wishes of religious power and sentenced the InnocentOne to death at the request of the leaders of God’s church. The ApostlePaul wrote that we are to obey the powers that be for they were ordained

to execute wrath on those who do evil. Yet Christ did only good. He

healed the sick, fed the hungry and resurrected the dead. Therepresentative of the Roman kingdom himself had examined Christ and

had found him innocent, yet he offered to have Christ ‘chastised’ (beaten)to appease those that were clamouring for his blood. Still in the end, he

sentenced Christ to death. In bowing to the wishes of the church of that

time, he has left us a perfect example of the union of the church and state.

Thus we see that it was the union of church and state that formed the beast. This is the beast that is to be feared. It is this beast that has

persecuted and destroyed God’s faithful people in the past, and will do so

again.

Christ was crucified on the cross, a pagan symbol. Today people bow to

crosses and pray to them. They claim that since Christ died on a cross, it

Page 30: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

8/10/2019 Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/daniel-and-revealation-part-2 30/45

has became a holy symbol. Had Christ been killed by a sword, would wetoday bow to swords and pray to them? It is the work that Christ

performed while on the cross that is to fill our thoughts and not the cross

itself.

What is the Beast?

As mentioned above, we saw that the beast was formed when and where aunion of church and state existed. However, this union of church and state

does not comes over night. The history of the papacy (a church-state) will

teach us that it took many years of apostasy to prepare the minds of the

people to accept the supreme authority of the Holy See. Therefore, the beast, is not only the union of church and state per se, but it is also that

which leads up to that union. Every power and influence that turns the people from truth and leads them to embrace error is imbued with the

spirit of the beast until that final step of apostasy occurs wherein it isformed perfectly and rears its dreadful head to persecute those few whothroughout that time had warned and entreated but to no avail. It is subtle

at first, gaining ground little but little until it has gained full authority and

confidence of majority. It has many characteristics all tending in the samedirection, to enslave the bodies and minds of men. Herein are included

those civil powers that conquer other nations and enslave them to keepthem under their power, whether by subtle means or by outright force.

The prince of this world, clothed in the garb of church and state rulers, deceives and torments the inhabitants of this earth – those made in the

image of God.

If we were to look at the prophetic period of the 1,260 years of papal

supremacy (Revelation 11: 2,3), we would see that the beast, clothed in

the garb of Catholic hierarchy, persecuted millions of true Christians andtortured many in such hideous ways as only the prince of darkness

himself can invent. Many were forced to suffer the utmost limits ofhuman endurance until they hailed death as a sweet release. Thus in the

history of the Christian era, religious powers more vividly revealed the

characteristics of the beast (spirit of persecution) than did civil powers.

Many today shudder at the thought of the holocaust but few realise theinfluence religious leaders had in moving men to hate their fellow men.

“And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two

horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which

dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.

And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from

Page 31: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

heaven on the earth in the sight of men, And deceiveth them that dwell onthe earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the

sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should

make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and didlive. And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the

image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as wouldnot worship the image of the beast should be killed. And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark intheir right hand, or in their foreheads; And that no man might buy or sell,

save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his

name. Here is the wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the

number of the beast; for it is the number of a man; and his number is Sixhundered threescore and six,” Revelation 13: 11-18.

The horns on the best represent church and civil leaders or leadership.

This can easily be seen in Daniel 8: 21; “And the rough goat is the king ofGrecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king”. Thuswe have an explanation of the meaning of the horns. Yet this beast had

two horns as a lamb. Two great leading factions govern this beast. From

one aspect, the Republican and Democratic parties constantly vie forleadership. However, the two horns also symbolize the church and state

and the union thereof. This also can be proven Biblically for of the littlehorn of Daniel 7: 8 we read, “… in this horn were eyes like the eyes of

man, and a mouth speaking great things”. This little horn whicheventually grew into the largest horn represents the Catholic pope during

the 1,260 years. But the beast of Revelation 13: 11-18 has two horns. Thus we see that while the church and state will maintain their separateidentities, the same head gives both power and both will be untied in a

common purpose.

God sets up kingdoms and removes them. Civil authorities have the duty

of punishing civil offenders. However, when civil authorities pass overthe boundaries God had set up, and unite with religious leaders, then will

religion influence civil authority and move it to enforce her dogmas. Then

will Christ’s true messengers and witnesses of Bible truth be persecuted

as in days of old. In such instances, God’s wrath comes upon them for both church and state have passed their boundaries. In conclusion, we seethat the union of church and state inevitably gives life to the beast.

Now, of the kingdoms we read where God speaks of his churches: “Idecked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and

a chain on thy neck. And I put a jewel on thy forehead, and earrings in

thine ear, and a beautiful crown upon thine head. Thus wast thou deckedwith gold and silver; and thy raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and

broidered work; thou didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil: and thouwast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosper into a kingdom. And thyrenown went forth among the heathen for thy beauty: for it was perfectthrough thy comeliness, which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord GOD.

But thou didst trust in thine own beauty, and playedst the harlot…”

Ezekiel 16: 11-15. “I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of

nothing” Revelation 3: 17.

What is the Mark of the Beast?

In order to better understand the mark of the beast, we must firstunderstand what the seal of God is. Seals are placed on important

documents in order to prove their authenticity and validity. The first and

most important document is “for in six days the Lord made heaven andearth, the sea, and all that is them is, and rested the seventh day;

wherefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it,” Exodus20: 11. “Six days may work be done, but in the seventh is the Sabbath of

rest, holy to the LORD… It is a sign between me and the children ofIsrael for ever … And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of

communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tablesof stone, written with the finger of God,” Exodus 31: 15-18. God’s tencommandments are the most important documents for all who live on the

earth. In the midst of that document is the forth commandment,

containing the name of its Author, the Creator of heaven and earth. Thatcommandment which bears His name is the one pointing to the seventh

day Sabbath. It is the sign or seal of God (Exodus 20: 1-17).

More than four thousand years after God created the heaven and earth and

hallowed the seventh day as a commemoration of creation, the supreme

authority of the so-called Christian church, with the help of civilauthorities, enacted a law compelling men to keep the first day of theweek. This was in the fourth century after Christ came to earth to die for

our transgression of the law, thus establishing its validity. What’s more,

that first day of the week enacted by man was called ‘the Lord’s day’.Then was fulfilled the prophecy of the Apostle Paul concerning the fall of

the church, that the man of sin would sit in the church of God and exalt

himself as God (2 Thessalonians 2: 3-5). When this man of sin first sat in

Page 34: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

the church of God, the exaltation of Sunday began with subtlety at first.Only soldiers and those working in the sedentary pursuits were to observe

it. Men who were farmers were exempt that the wheat may be brought in

on time. It was not until the fifth century that all were forced to observethat day wherever papal authority prevailed. Those who still observed the

seventh day Sabbath as the sign and seal of God were persecuted andkilled. Now if the seventh day Sabbath is the seal of God, it stands toreason that the seal or mark of the beast is Sunday. Just as the seal of Godembodies all the ten commandments written with the finger of God, so

the mark of the beast embodies all the other laws of this dreadful beast.

Thus, the seventh day Sabbath is the seal or mark of God while Sunday is

the mark of the beast. Neither Christ nor His disciples changed the law ofGod. Had it been possible to change His law, it would not have been

necessary for Christ to die. Had there existed a way to make void the law,and still remain just without sacrificing his dearly beloved Son, God

Himself would have found it. Had Christ changed or abrogated God’slaw, He would not have been able to return to heaven as God’s Son and became our High Priest (Hebrews 8:1). Nowhere in the Bible do we find

either Christ or the apostles teaching others to observe Sunday. It is solely

the child of the papacy as the Catholic Church itself had admitted.

But does the worship of Sunday alone constitute the mark of the beast, orare other false doctrines involved as well? Luther, Melanchton, Huss and

others were not persecuted or burned at the stake because of their faith inthe seventh day Sabbath for they did not yet have that light. They had just

come out of a church of great darkness and God led them toward the lightas they could follow – just as He led the children of Israel through thewilderness of sin. These reformers, however, were true to the light that

shone on their pathway. They protested against the many abuses of the

Catholic Church and endeavoured to turn the eyes of the people from manto Christ, our great sacrifice who alone had the power to forgive sin.

Unlike many today, they saw that the organised church had no power tosave. They taught pure Bible truth – truth that cut its way through the

darkness like a two-edged sword and cast asunder the many false

doctrines and superstitions brought forth by the authorities of the Catholic

Church. Although these reformers did not have the light of the Sabbath, yet they waged war with the beast of their time, ready to lay down theirlives for certain truths that did not involve the Sabbath, and because of

that they felt the ire of the beast. Thus we see that it is not Sunday

worship alone that constitutes the mark of the beast, but that other falsedoctrines are involved as well. The authorities of the Jewish church

persecuted and killed all those Jews who claimed to believe that Jesus

Christ was the Messiah, yet both groups kept the Sabbath. The Catholic

Page 35: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/daniel-and-revealation-part-2 35/45

Church persecuted and killed those who would not receive their falsedoctrines in place of Bible truth yet both groups observed Sunday. To a

lesser extent (since they did not have civil power on their side), the

Protestant Churches of 1840-44 persecuted those who rejected some ofthe false doctrines that clung to them when they first left the Catholic

Church. Each persecuted their own. In each case, the smaller groupfaithful remnant felt the ire of the beast, brought upon them by theapostatised majority.

Now let us look at the Seventh Day Adventists who separated from the

Protestant Churches in the 1840’s. Today, there exist three main Seventh

Day Adventist churches and all three are organised in a hierarchicalsystem like the Catholic Church. It is true that they have no pope at the

top of the organisational pyramid. Nor do they have a king per se. Butthey have a president of the General Conference who has authority over

all the believers throughout the earth. They use their signature and title(the name of the beast) to validate their church laws which are binding onall the members of their worldwide churches. They tell the members what

they are to believe and what they are not to believe. Thus the General

Conference of each of the three worldwide Seventh Day Adventistchurches is the head of all their respective memberships and teachers. The

first Seventh Day Adventist church was organised in 1863, the second in1925 and the third in 1951. All were organised in the same fashion.

Every four or five years each church has a General Conference session

wherein all the delegates worldwide meet and discuss problems andcircumstances. Such a General Conference session can appoint another president or reappoint the same one. In either case, that president is at the

tip of the organisational pyramid. Once the session adjourns the delegates

go home and announce the decisions reached by the General Conference portraying them in the brightest colours. The members of each Seventh

Day Adventist church then receive these decisions as if they were theWord of God, never giving thought to the fact that the authorities of their

church organisation have been following the steps of Romanism for the

last 99 years, since 1895 (this can be confirmed by their book

‘Testimonies to Ministers’ p. 357-367). All the members of all threechurches are unconsciously under the control of their leadership andfreedom of conscience is nonexistent among them. When Christ gave the

great gospel commission to his disciples (telling them to go and teach all

nations), no church creeds or doctrines were here involved. They were toteach only that which Christ Himself thought – no more. Not one of them

was given authority to rule the conscience of another. Quite the contrary.

Christ said. ‘all ye are brethren’.

What is the Image to the Beast?

An image to the beast is not the beast itself. It is a likeness or image ofsomeone that once existed. Some Christian churches have bestowed

sainthood on certain men and women that lived long ago. These churchesstill reverence, bow to, and pray to these images of wood, stone or plaster. Now these images are not the real people they present. So theimage to the beast is not the actual beast itself.

“The image is made to the first or leopard-like beast, which is the one

brought to view in the third angel's message. By this first beast isrepresented the Roman Church, an ecclesiastical body clothed with civil

power, having authority to punish all dissenters. The image to the beastrepresents another religious body clothed with similar power. The

formation of this image is the work of that beast whose peaceful rise andmild professions render it so striking a symbol of the United States. Hereis to be found an image of the papacy” (Great Controversy, 1844 edition),

 page 277.

Now we must find another ‘religious body (or religious organisation)

clothed with similar power’ or ‘civil power’ as was the Roman Church. Itmust also be a church that was organised in a hierarchical system as was

the Roman Church – a church that has been following in the track ofRomanism for about one hundred years now – a church wherein man’s

voice is obeyed as if it were the voice of God Himself – and a churchwhose leadership has misinterpreted six chapters of the book ofRevelation. These are chapters 8, 9, 13, 16, 17 and 18. This must be a

church that has taken legal action against at least 10 smaller groups that

had separated from her. That great image of the dreadful beast is theSeventh Day Adventist Church. This ‘image of the beast should both

speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and

poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their

foreheads, and that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark,

or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Lethim that hath understanding count the number of the beast; for it is thenumber of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.”

(Revelation 13: 15-18).

The words, ‘that no man might buy or sell’ refers to the fact that all will

be forbidden to preach pure Bible truth (as the Bible refers to riches –

gold and silver – as spiritual treasures). Thus the image of the beast

would have the same characteristics as the beast itself – the papal powerthat forbade the reformers to preach during the 1,260 year period of

persecution. This history will once more be repeated. The dragon

(serpent) which gave power unto the first beast also will give power untothe second beast that it may, ‘give life unto the image of the beast’

(Revelation 13: 15). Thus the dragon will empower the image of the beast(the Seventh Day Adventist church organisation) that all who will notworship that image will be killed.

Today, thousands of men, women and children are leaving Seventh Day

Adventist church organisation and gathering in private homes to study

God’s word. Not all in these groups are sincere believers, just as not all ofChrist’s disciples were sincere. Nevertheless the sincere believers are

learning to stand for themselves and to conscientiously defend Bible truthleaving the consequences with God. Bible truth alone exposes the false

teachings manufactured by the hierarchical power of the Seventh DayAdventist Church since 1844.

What is the Number 666?

As previously mentioned, the first Christian church fell away from the

truth. Then the man of sin came and set in it, showing himself that he isGod (2 Thessalonians 2: 3,4) Here we see that pride and self exaltation

marked this church. All three Seventh Day Adventist Churches teach thatthe pope carries the insignia ‘VICARIVS FILII DEI’ or the vicegerent of

Christ. Yet if one were to take the roman numeral numbers found in thisinsignia, they would total up to the number 666. Now I would like to putforth a question to you, dear reader: Is it the insignia that makes the pope

the beast or is it the beastlike character that makes the pope the beast?

The Bible says that it is the number of a man – not of an insignia. Now ifthis number is the number of a man, could it be that those who honour

and follow this man could also have this number deeply imbedded in theirconscience? Pride and exaltation had begun to creep into the Seventh Day

Adventist Churches back in 1852 when the message of the Faithful

Witness was first applied to the angel of the church of Laodicea

(Revelation 3: 14-21). But her proud character caused her to say; “I amrich and increased in goods and have need of nothing”. Pride and self-exaltation – the number 666 exists not only in church organisations but in

the homes of many is seen the human urge to control our fellow men and

women – to dictate what others shall believe. Although Seventh DayAdventists do not carry on them the literal insignia ‘VICARIVS FILII

DEI’, yet many carry in their understanding the number 666.

Those who wish to stand on the sea of glass must overcome the BEAST,its MARK , IMAGE, and NUMBER   (666). Those who have entered

under the light of the third angel’s message (Revelation 14: 9-12) but do

not put forth earnest effort to overcome the beast, its mark, image andnumber, will drunk of the wine of the wrath of God. They will receive the

7 last plagues described in Revelation chapter 16. The true believers willsay to the great image of the beast (to great Seventh Day AdventistChurch organisation clothed with civil power), ‘we ought to obey Godrather than man’. These will stand without any human defence or shelter

on earth. Neither church nor civil laws will defend them. They will be

completely exposed to the wrath of man which originates with Satan

himself. Just as, under the pressure of the Jewish leadership, the Romancivil power sentenced the Innocent One to the death of Calvary, so, under

the pressure of the Seventh Day Adventist leadership, the two-horned beast (the United States of America) will give the innocent ones over to

die. Yet even in that most awful time of anguish, Christ will deliver hisfaithful ones. “And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great princewhich standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of

trouble such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time:

and at that time thy people shall be delivered; every one that shall befound written in the book.” Daniel 12: 1.

Here we would notice that the two-horned beast (Revelation 13: 11-18)

differs from the dreadful beast whose horn had ‘eyes like the eyes of a

man and a mouth speaking great things’ (Daniel 7: 8). Whereas thedreadful beast’s power was in his horn, the two-horned beast’s power was

in his head for his horns had no eyes and mouth yet from the head it‘spake as a dragon’ (Revelation 13: 11).

Nature itself shows us that the horns of an animal grow and deride their

nourishment from the head. According to Revelation chapter 13 and 17,

we can then see that the beast with 7 heads had 10 horns on those 7heads. In Revelation 17: 9 we read, “and here is the mind which hath

wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman

sitteth”. Here we see that the 7 heads symbolises mountains. Now it is theduty of every reader to compare one Bible verse with another and see

what mountains represents. In Isaiah 27: 13 and 30: 29 we read; “…shallworship the Lord in the holy mountain at Jerusalem”, “…to come into the

mountain of the Lord, the mighty One of Israel”. In Isaiah 56: 7 we read,

“even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful inmy house of prayer…”. In Ezekiel 20: 40 we read, “for in my holy

mountain, in the mountain of the height of Israel…”. The prophet Daniel

Page 39: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

prayed to God, “O Lord, according to all thy righteousness, I beseechthee, let thine anger and thy fury be turned away from thy city Jerusalem,

thy holy mountain: because of our sins, and for the iniquities of our

fathers, Jerusalem and thy people are became a reproach to all that areabout us,” Daniel 9: 16.

Thus we can clearly see that God used his symbol of a mountain to portray his church or his people on earth. Bible history clearly tells howGod’s people apostatised and the Lord gave them over as captives to

other nations – Egypt, Babylon, and in the time of Christ, they were

subject to the Roman kingdom. Thus Jerusalem was sometimes a holy

mountain and at other times an abomination, a desolation and a reproachto the surrounding nations on earth.

This history is repeated in the Christian era. In its beginning the Christian

church worked under the power of the Holy Spirit, especially when theapostles still lived. Yet even in Paul’s time, false doctrines were creepingin and he was obliged to stand up against false brethren. It was not long

after his death that the Christian church fell so low as to accept the man

of sin rather than the faith once delivered to the saints. Thus, as in each ofthe 7 periods of time, God’s church apostatised, it partook of the spirit of

the beast and became part of the Roman Kingdom rather than Christ’sKingdom.

Again, What is the Moon?

“And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down fromheaven on the earth in the sight of men. And deceiveth them that dwell on

the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the

sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they shouldmake an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword and did

live,” Revelation 13: 13, 14.

It has been more than 20 years since the televisions and radios of

America trumpeted the day and hour that an American would walk on the

moon. At the appointed hour a small group of family and friends gatheredaround the great television set to watch as American actors planted theflag on the moon – after all they just had to be the first to claim the moon

‘in the sight of men’. As the television screen portrayed the astronauts

nearing the moon, it also portrayed the pope fervently praying for thesuccess of the American moon mission. Unfortunately, the American

actors could not show the actual landing on the moon for, conveniently

enough, the camera briefly malfunctioned just then and they could not

Page 40: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

8/10/2019 Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

send those pictures to the watching populace on earth. Just a short whilelater, however, pictures were sent to earth portraying the astronauts as

they hopped about on the moon and planted the American flag. The next

scene the watcher saw was the pope looking through a great telescope atthe moon where American actors walked through some airless and nearly

weightless medium. Thus the pope apparently happy that his prayer hadhelped to put men on the moon. The men on the moon also walked andhopped about.

Thus at that moment was fulfilled the prophecy that the two-horned beast

(America) would perform great miracles ‘in the sight of the beast’ that

‘had the wound by a sword, and did live’. There, in Revelation chapter13, we read how the two-horned beast (United States of America)

‘deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracleswhich he had power to do’. Perhaps the Seventh Day Adventist churches

are still waiting for that two-horned beast to make ‘fire come down fromheaven on the earth’. If these words were to have a literal fulfilment, thenwe would not read that the beast “deceiveth them that dwell on the earth

by the means of those miracles”. Thus we see that those miracles were

not literal or true, but a deception. In the beginning of this booklet, weread that the wise men of the antediluvian world claimed to have studied

well the laws of nature and that a flood the scope of Noah’s prophecieswas virtually impossible. Thus the wise men and scientists of that time

succeeded in deceiving not only themselves but almost the whole worldof that time and all but Noah and his family were swept away in that

flood.

Why has the two-horned beast chosen to portray the moon as a barren,

lifeless and desolate place? If that was true, how then could God say ot its

creation, “and God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it wasvery good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day,” Genesis

1: 31? Why is it that these American actors do not believe the Lord whenHe said; “In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread till thou return unto

the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust

shalt thou return,” Genesis 3: 19. Adam and all his offspring are of the

dust of this earth and it is to that dust that they must return.

In Genesis 1: 7 we read, “and God made the firmament, and divided the

waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were

above the firmament; and it was so”. This firmament or shroud of theearth is so strong that it held the waters that would some day flood

Noah’s earth. What’s more, this shroud held them for more than 1500

years. Then, under God’s direction, this shroud or barrier allowed all this

Page 41: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

water to fall to earth and destroy those who had rejected the warninggiven them of God.

How could God portray his blessed, faithful church as a pure womanclothed in light, crowned with stars, yet standing on a lifeless, desolate

and dusty moon? We find that before God ‘created the heaven and theearth’, the earth was ‘without form and void; and darkness was upon theface of the deep’. Yet when the creation of this earth was compete, therewas sunlight, gentle hills of a living green covered with all kinds of

verdant vegetation, teeming with life.

How then can it be that, although God created the moon also, yet themoon is only a lifeless, desolate place? If God created the moon also, as

the Bible says, then the moon also must be lovely, verdant world. On thatlovely sphere, no sinner has, nor ever will set foot. Only those who have

been faithful while here on earth, who are a part of Christ’s victoriousearth, redeemed through His great sacrifice, will ever set foot on themoon. I firmly believe that on that very moon, some believers will be

baptised – there will be a great baptism, perhaps only in spirit, when they

learn that they had in ignorance been keeping the first day ordained bythe pope (man of sin) to the neglect of the seventh day Sabbath that God

had hallowed and sanctified. From that time and forever more, throughoutcountless ages, the redeemed of this earth will come and bow before the

throne of God every seventh day Sabbath and very new moon. “For as thenew heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before

me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain. And itshall come to pass, that   from one new moon to another, and from onesabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the

LORD”, Isaiah 66: 22, 23.

It is not right that the American actors have chosen to portray the moon as

some great, dusty, vast orb-a dead body in a living universe that floats inan airless space. These heavenly lights have their functions. They are to

enlighten the earth, to rule the day and night, and to divide the light from

the darkness, just as the holy symbol employed in Revelation 12: 1 is to

enlighten the earth, divide the light from the darkness (truth from error)and to proclaim to the inhabitants of the earth the day and hour we areliving in.

This small booklet is being issued to the peoples of this earth in the bestintentions. It is designed to prepare the believers for the events that are

soon to come upon us. These are the events mentioned in Revelation 13:

15-18. I fear for the believers that they will not recognise the signs of the

Page 42: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/daniel-and-revealation-part-2 42/45

times just preceding Christ’s second coming, just as the Jews did notrecognise the signs of their times before His first coming. Wise Solomon

once said, “the thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that

which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing  underthe sun,” Ecclesiastics 1: 9. Thus we can see that history repeats itself. As

it was in Old Testament times with the Jewish nation as God’s people, soit is in the Christian era with the Christian churches. More than onehundred years before Christ, Jerusalem was under the authority of theRoman Kingdom. The leaders of God’s people of that time taught the

believers that a Messiah was to come that would put down the authority

of Rome and uplift the Jewish nation above all the nations of the earth.

Yet we see that not one prophet of the Old Testament prophesied such aMessiah.

The prophet Isaiah said, “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of

sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our  faces fromhim; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borneour griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken,

smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions,

he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was uponhim; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone

astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laidon him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet

he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and asa sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth,” Isaiah

53: 3-7.

The prophet Daniel writes, “Seventy weeks are determined upon thy

people and upon thy holy city”, (Daniel 9: 24). The Jewish nation was

given a time of probation. The exact time and place of the coming of theMessiah were prophesied. His work and death were also prophesied so

that they would have no excuse. But the people of God of that day did notstudy the prophetic word. They did not know the time of their visitation.

‘The thing which has been, it is that which shall be’.

Our-day Seventh Day Adventists who are awaiting the second coming ofthe Messiah in glory have also not studied the sure words of prophecy forour time. They are rocked in the cradle of security and sleep a fatal sleep.

Prophecies are being fulfilled one after another, and they perceived it not.

The Christian world, as the world of Noah’s day, sleep this sleep. Theleaders of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, just like the leaders of the

Jewish nation, falsely interpret the prophecies. Hoc can the believers gain

the victory over the beast, its mark, image and number when they do not

Page 43: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/daniel-and-revealation-part-2 43/45

fully understand what these symbols represent? Yet they wait to hear thetruth from the pulpit while the leadership refuses to rightly interpret.

To recap: every institution, corporation or church has its mark with whichit validates its documents and bylaws. It is clear that Jewish mark was its

transgression of the sixth commandment (thou shalt not kill). They liftedtheir voices to call for the murder not only for Christ Himself, but also ofhis followers in later times. That was then the beast. Then from the midstof the Christian church following the death of the apostles, came the man

of sin who sat in that church. His work was the establishment of Sunday

as a holy day in place of the seventh day Sabbath. Yet, as we read in the

book ‘The Great Controversy Between Christ and Satan’ (1884 edition),under the title, ‘The Third Angel’s Message’; “The image is made to the

first or leopard-like beast, which is the one brought to view in the thirdangel's message. By this first beast is represented the Roman Church, an

ecclesiastical body clothed with civil power, having authority to punishall dissenters. The image to the beast represents another religious bodyclothed with similar power. The formation of this image is the work of

that beast whose peaceful rise and mild professions render it so striking a

symbol of the United States. Here is to be found an image of the papacy. When the churches of our land, uniting upon such points of faith as are

held by them in common, shall influence the State to enforce theirdecrees and sustain their institutions, then will Protestant America have

formed an image of the Roman hierarchy.”

It’s been about a year since the gathering from the Roman CatholicChurch met with the representatives of the Protestant Churches inAustralia. Representatives of the Seventh Day Adventist Church were

there also. A small group of Seventh Day Adventists that were separated

from the church were ready to distribute their literature at the gathering. The pamphlet they distributed was entitled ‘The Protestant’. There were a

few among this small group that were still members of the Seventh DayAdventist Church. They also participated in the giving out of the

literature which warned against this union with the Catholic Church.

Surprisingly enough, the representatives of the Catholic Church did not

attempt to use civil power to stop the distribution of the literature. However, the representatives of the Seventh Day Adventist Church notonly sued the members of that small group, but also sued the worldly

publishing company that published the pamphlets for the group. Thus the

Seventh Day Adventist Church has brought charges against more than tengroups, forcing most of them to disband. All this with the use of the civil

courts of the United States of America. How can this be done in a land of

freedom – a land that believes in the separation of church and state? Easy.

Page 44: Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

8/10/2019 Daniel and Revealation, Part 2

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/daniel-and-revealation-part-2 44/45

The Seventh Day Adventist Church registered its highest branch ofleadership (the General Conference hierarchy) as a corporation. As a

corporation, it alone is entitled to use the name ‘Seventh Day Adventist’.

What’s more, this corporation alone can present itself to others as‘Seventh Day Adventist’ or of the Seventh Day Adventist persuasion.

This means that other individuals not of that church organisation cannot promote the beliefs held by the corporation – even if those beliefs are theconscientious of this individual. This involves not merely an ownershipof the name Seventh Day Adventist, but also an ownership of the beliefs

of the Seventh Day Adventists. Just as the Catholic Church (the beast of

olden times) claimed to have the right to determine who was a true

Christian, so the Seventh Day Adventist Church (the beast of today)claim to have the right to determine who is a true Seventh Day Adventist.

The next step for both churches was the punishment of the ‘heretics’.

Now the question arises: did the United States of America already aid thechurch authorities in allowing them to register as a corporation with thename General Conference Corporation of Seventh Day Adventists? The

United States government well knew that two other Seventh Day

Adventists churches exist with very similar names (Seventh DayAdventist Reform Church and Seventh Day Adventist Reform Church –

Missionary Society). Thus the Seventh Day Adventist Church has usedlegal procedures to, one by one, disband more than ten small independent

Seventh Day Adventist groups. How then is it that she does not attempt todisband the other two Seventh Day Adventist churches? How is it that

after only 150 years of existence, the church of God has developed thecharacter of the beast and is persecuting those who will not bow to herauthority? That church had dragged to court a small independent group of

9 believers who do not believe as she believes and who hung on their

door a small, hand-painted sign that read Seventh Day AdventistCongregational Church. Is not this following in the steps of the first beast

or Roman Catholic Church?
