HEADTEACHER’S BLOG
Thursday 31st January 2013
The last two weeks have been all about appointing new teachers to
replace those that will be retiring or moving on to promoted posts in
other schools next September. It is an intensive and time consuming
process, and needs to be done early in the year so that we can get the
pick of the best teachers for our school. The quality of our teachers is
one of our top priorities, and so prospective new teachers at Thurstable
go through a tough selection process. They are observed teaching a
lesson and meeting with a panel of students as well as facing a formal
interview with senior staff, chaired by Mr Lee or myself. We have had
large numbers of strong applications, and I am delighted to say that we
have appointed a clutch of committed and potentially outstanding
teachers, who will bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm to an already
excellent teaching team. I am already looking forward to working with
them.

CIRCLE OF ELEVEN On Thursday 17th January, the GCSE Drama students went to see LEO by Circle of Eleven at the Southbank Centre, part of the Mime Festival that had been running for a few weeks in different venues around London. The show was a great blend of comedy, genius and surrealism. The audience could see a cross-section of a small room on stage in which the performer could be seen lying on his back with his feet on the wall; however, with the use of a camera at a different angle, a screen to the side of the stage made him appear to be standing upright. This simple technique allowed for an amazing performance of a brilliant show. It was a great trip and I’m sure everyone that went would love to go again. Peter Greenwood - 11MBAI
E-LEARNING CENTRE - GREEN SCREEN
The E-Learning Centre now has a ‘Green Screen’ for use in lessons. This equipment can be used for superimposing videos and photos behind the students for their class work. We are all very excited about the new equipment. Mr S Everett
CAREERS FAIR
Thurstable School’s Careers Fair 2013 will be held on Thursday 7th February from 5:30pm until 7:30pm. The event is for Year 9, 10 and 11 students and gives you the opportunity to engage with professionals from a wide r a n g e o f c a r e e r paths. Parents and guardians are more than welcome to attend with students to guide their questioning.
DANCE SHOW On Thursday 17th January we held our first dance show of the year. The show included performances from pupils studying dance in Year 10, 11, 12 and 13. The show had a wide range of styles of dance, all of which were performed with great professionalism. Pupils have been busy rehearsing since September, giving up their lunch times and their time after school to create the dance show. The majority of the dances in the show were choreographed by the pupils themselves, with some of them being pupils actual assessment pieces for their BTEC Dance course.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the pupils for their hard work and commitment to the show and dance in general. And we are looking forward to putting on the next show on May 2nd and 3rd.
