Foreword
We are delighted to share with you our Dance '07 program which proudly supports the work
of four guest choreographers, none of whom are strangers to QUT Dance.
Natalie Weir, well known and appreciated by audiences nationally and internationally has
created a passionate pas de deux which will be developed into a longer work in the near future.
As a QUT graduate and very successful freelance choreographer, Natalie's professionalism
and extensive experience with major ballet and contemporary companies provides valuable
real world learning opportunities for our students.
Equally valuable is the work of well-respected Keith Hawley who returns to our team creating
a sexy commercial number for our second years. Keith's reputation is enviable and it is always
a pleasure to share in his energy and commitment for teaching and choreographing.
Rivalling Keith's energy is the always enthusiastic and dynamic Anton, a graduate of QUT and
fresh from performing in the Melbourne Festival's hit This Show is About People. Anton has
unleashed his creative juices on our graduating students, challenging them both technically
and artistically. As a graduate of QUT. Anton is an invaluable model and mentor to these
students as they transition into the industry.
Our fourth choreographer, Dianna Laska-Moore has delighted audiences for over two
decades with her outstanding repertoire of folk and character dances. Unfortunately for us,
Dianna is leaving Brisbane and moving to Canberra. We will miss her excellent teaching skills
not to mention her dry wit and thank her for her many years of commitment to our programs
at QUT.
But back to tonight. I hope you enjoy these vibrant dance works and thank you for
encouraging our students' development through your ongoing support.

Choreographer Dianna Laska-Moore Rehearsal Assistant Evan Jones Cast BFA Dance -1st Year Music The Rultanlan Dqnces from The Attraction of Opposites by George Palmer
The music, which as George Palmer states'is pure fun and makes no pretence to ethnic authenticity' inspired me to create · pi'eeefor.-these first year cancers. Although not authentically Romanian, it certainly has a Ro flavour and energy and thus Almost Romanian was bom.
Many thanks to Queensland Dance School of Excellence for the loan of the Folk blouses for our dancers.

I am very happy to have this piece as part of Grad 07.1t i a short Pas de Deux, I think deceptively simple, yet very difficult technically, and the students ve impressed me with their focused attitude, determination and commitment to the work.

Yello Is Not A Colour
Choreographer Keith Hawley Rehearsal Assistant Avril Huddy Cast BFA Dance- 2nd Year Music composed, arranged and engineered by Dieter Meier Lyrics and vocals by Boris Blank
I have used this group's music, Yello, for many years and t;iave found that the accents and rhythms inspire my creativity. I have intended to make this piece a little 80s but integrated with current technology- projected imagery and live camera feeds. I have loved working with the Yea.r 2 students. They have given the piece a great sense of humour and have given me a fantastic opportunity to create something that I hope you all enjoy. The title of the piece is a direct reflection of how many people ask me if I have spelled this group's name correctly. And let me tell you ... I am not a great
spella!

work Current has been designed specifically for this year's current 2007 graduating dance It encompasses a multi-tiered learning experience both physically and conceptually
deriving from play and exploration of the word 'current~
" The rhytl)m and content of the work i~ inspired by today's current world of many ideas, fast motion and multPtasking.
I haVe sttuctured a varied develop!T)'imt process for students, starting witij a strengthening training ground through yoga and tumbli~g. The choreographic development gave opportunity for self devised ~terial through task ba~d exercise as well as opportunity to understand the taking of physical and"conceptual direction.
I am a graduate and remember very vividly the moment before being relea.sed into my profession. So, I have tried to inspire the students to take hold of their futures in a dance landscape that is very hard but very rewarding and still possible if you want it.
Thank you third years! Go forth!
Thank you very muc~ QUT dance for this opportunity and your ongoing amazing commitment to dance.
thanks to Csaba for all your work and Shaaron for your never-failing belief.
