THE CONSENS PROJECT
Intensified continuous processes are a key innovation of the last decade for the production of high quality, high
value and customer-specific products at competitive prices in a sustainable fashion. To realize the potential of
this technology, key steps must be made towards long-term stable, tightly controlled and fully automated
production. The goal of the CONSENS project is to advance the continuous production of high-value products
meeting high quality demands in flexible intensified continuous plants by introducing novel online sensing
equipment and closed loop control of the key product parameters. CONSENS will focus on flexible continuous
plants but the results will be transferable also to large-scale continuous processes. The research and
development is driven by industrial case studies from three different areas, spanning the complete value chain
of chemical production: complex organic synthesis, specialty polymers, and formulation of complex liquids.
Innovative PAT technology will be developed for online concentration measurements (mid-resolution process
NMR), for the online non-invasive measurement of rheological properties of complex fluids, and for continuous
measurements of fouling in tubular reactors. New model-based adaptive control schemes based on innovative
PAT technology will be developed. The project results will be validated in industrial pilot plants for all three
types of processes, including validation in production containers that have been developed in the F3 Factory
project. Further, methods for sensor failure monitoring, control performance monitoring and engineering
support for PAT-based solutions will be developed. The exploitation of the new technologies will be facilitated
by a tool for technology evaluation and economic impact assessment. A Cross sectorial Advisory Board
supports the transfer of PAT technologies and adaptive control to neighbouring sectors of the European
processing industry.

1 Executive summary Introduction about this document
The purpose of this deliverable is to provide a formal planning document for using and disseminating
knowledge throughout the project. It makes use of the EC projects communication best practices and follows
the 6W approach: What, Why, When, hoW, Where and to Whom.
This document aims to go a step further than what was described in the CONSENS Annex 1 in terms of what
should be done to assure effective communication about the project and its outcomes. The plan includes tools
to be used by the CONSENS project. It is a guide for the project partners on how to promote the project and
maximise its impact by using the promotion tools and dissemination channels.
This document is based on the experience of dissemination experience of inno, on the feedback from partners
and use of their experience, in particular in the previous EU-funded projects, and on the analysis of partners’
expectations on the project communication and dissemination (it takes into account the result of the
dissemination questionnaire (see annex A) sent to the project consortium)..
This document also indicates the roles and responsibilities of the partners and identifies the audience and the
key messages that should be spread.
Purpose of the CONSENS communication strategy
The communication and dissemination campaign represents one of the key pillars of the CONSENS project:
continuous internal and external information about results achieved is a transversal element that should be
deployed throughout the whole project duration and that should cover all communities relevant for and
possibly interested in the CONSENS project, both in countries where the consortium partners are operating and
on the worldwide level.
Based on these aspects, the objective of the dissemination activities is twofold:
To promote the scientific approach, progress, and results of the project in the relevant communities
To maximise the impact of the findings stemming from CONSENS case studies.
Furthermore, the industrial partners of the project are covering around 13% of the total chemical industry
market of Europe. A specific attention will be then drawn to ensure the best dissemination possible internally
to the consortium partners (targeting for instance other departments than the one working on the project) as
an effective mean to spread research results.
Duration of the activities:
The communication and dissemination campaign will last during the whole project life cycle.
Responsibilities
inno leads the work package and is in charge of the implementation of the communication campaign, including
the creation of a visual identity, publicity and promotion material, and set up and regular update of the project
website. This task will be supported by TUDO and INVITE on the strategic level.
All other project partners will be involved in the communication and dissemination activities, and will be
requested to provide updates on 3 month basis about their activities, using the forms in the Annex B, C and D).
Those updates will be added to the repositories on SharePoint.

2 Introduction and Overall Strategy CONSENS will develop continuous production of high-value products that meet high quality demands in flexible
intensified continuous plants by introducing novel online sensing equipment and closed-loop control of the key
product parameters.
The purpose of the present document is to provide a formal planning for using and disseminating knowledge
throughout the project. It is intended essentially for the project partners. However, the dissemination level of
the document being public, the CONSENS communication strategy is open for process industry community
members who can provide their free comments and suggestions.
The communication strategy of the project will follow a 6W approach to ensure that every communication
opportunity is adequately exploited by the project. The 6W strategy aims to identify clearly:
Why disseminate: For an efficient communication, the first point to be identified is the objectives of the
communication.
To Whom: Different communication objectives will have to target different audiences, these different
audiences have to be defined.
Disseminate What: Different audiences have different interests and needs and will need to be
addressed with different messages.
Disseminate hoW: Different audiences have to be addressed through different channels. To be efficient,
the communication has also to be coordinated and monitored.
Disseminate Where: To fully reach its objectives, the project has to disseminate to a broad audience all
over Europe and beyond.
Disseminate When: The project communication must both run throughout the duration of the project,
with long lasting and scheduled actions and take advantage of opportunities that arise.
This document starts by identifying the dissemination and communication objectives of the CONSENS project,
answering to the Why disseminate question in section 3. To efficiently implement this strategy, the document
starts to answer the hoW question and defines the activities that will coordinate and monitor the project
communication in section 4.
The communication plans defines the targeted audiences and associated messages in section 5, answering to
the to Whom and What questions. Based on the targeted audience, the communication and promotion tools
have been defined in section 6, further answering the What and hoW to disseminate questions. This is
completed in section 7 by the definition of the scheduled and opportunistic communication strategy, listing the
events, press releases and networking activities of the project, answering to the Where and When to
disseminate questions.

3 Objectives In order to produce a coherent and efficient communication strategy, the first point to be identified is
Why we should communicate: what are the communication objectives of the project?
The WP5 description in the DoW states the plans, the roles and respon sibility of the partners for the project branding, awareness raising and dissemination activities, as well as the objectives of the communication and dissemination activities. The results of the dissemination questionnaires allowed going further in the determination of the dissemination objectives by clearly highlighting the project partners’ expectations and needs. Based on the DoW and on these inputs, the objectives of the CONSENS communication strategy are the following:
To communicate around the project and promote scientific dissemination of the project progresses and
results.
To raise awareness about the project and to promote the project work, but more specially to:
o To attract attention from customers, suppliers and technology providers.
o to attract other stakeholders to further collaborate on the project’s topics, and possibly share
contributions
o To present the project activities and results to a larger audience, beyond technical specialists.
To provide a communication platform (website) that provides easy insight to the outside world in both
the joined activities of the consortium as a group, but also room for paying attention to achievements of
the individual partners
Support to the intra-corporate dissemination of technical results and their technical transfer as well as
possible transfer to other fields than the one investigated within CONSENS
To ensure a maximum impact of the project results and findings in relevant communities
The following picture presents a high-level overview of the communication strategy of the project:
Figure 1 - CONSENS overall dissemination plan
As illustrated, the communication strategy contributes to:
Scientific dissemination: CONSENS is a research and innovation project, and the dissemination of scientific results is a key component of the scientific research process. And as illustrated in the graphs below (percentage of patents and peer review articles as a priority for the partners), dissemination to relevant scientific community is clearly one of the main dissemination priorities. The quality of a research activity is judged by its ability to reach a large community and to convince its peers of the excellence of its work. Furthermore, reaching a large audience
13
Deliverable D5.1, V1.0 CONSENS communication strategy and communication tools Public
H2020-SPIRE-2014 – Project 636942 www.consens-spire.eu
reinforces the quality of the research by enabling independent peers to formulate questions and identify opportunities for improvements. Thus a first, natural objective of any research project is to disseminate its research results to the relevant scientific communities.
Exploitation opportunities: CONSENS researchers are driven by industrial interests and cases studies, besides scientific publications, seminars will be given in the context of professional organizations and industrial associations to sensitize the industry to the new developments in PAT and advanced control and to the potential of automated intensified production. Post -project exploitation issues will be addressed through market analysis, IPR issues investigations and preparation to licence negotiation, in order to shorten time to market. Parallel to the work on new sensing and control concepts, on-going developments in this field and in standardisation will be closely followed throughout the project with the purpose to consider latest developments and to react flexibly to them. It is then essential for the project to communicate adequately with the interested stakeholders (especially the industrial communities).
Promotion of the impact of the project: The project will have a strong impact on the whole European chemical and other processing industries: It is expected that the market share of European chemical production plants on the global market will increase by ca. 3% due to better quality, innovative products and higher competitiveness. Also the European instrumentation vendors will benefit from the CONSENS project, as the demand for the innovative sensors will lead to higher turnovers. Several project partners intend to develop and produce products based on the project results in Europe. The savings of resources and energy as well as the acceleration of process development and implementation show that CONSENS will help the European chemical and other process industries and vendors to have technological advancement and increase of market share world-wide, and to increase the social responsibility of creating wealth and employment, of assuring a high quality of life, of diminishing threats to health of customers, employees, and citizens, and of using the natural resources in a sustainable way to preserve them for future generations. It is therefore a key responsibility for the CONSENS project to adequately, promote its research and innovation activity, and the support received from the European Commission, to potential interested stakeholders and policy makers and also to a more general public who will eventually benefit from these outcomes.
These objectives are also supported by the analysis of the partners’ expectations. The results of the CONSENS dissemination questionnaires show that scientific dissemination related activities are the first priority for most of the partners.
The first dissemination priorities for the CONSENS project partners are to get patents, to participate to congress/events and to publish peer-reviewed articles in order to disseminate the project results. These priorities are closely in line with the 5 focus points of the CONSENS dissemination strategy described above.

Figure 2: Partners priorities of the dissemination activities (as per CONSENS dissemination questionnaire)
With respect to the objectives, the communication campaign will last during the whole project life cycle. It will
start with the elaboration of the project branding, materials and tools for dissemination: the CONSENS visual
design (part of this Deliverable D5.1) and the CONSENS web site (D5.2). As soon as the promotion materials
and tools are finalised, the dissemination activities will be brought to a higher level. A number of important
dissemination activities are planned (newsletters, press releases, scientific publications, participation in
events...).
In order for the project to be successful, it is vital that the results achieved, the methodology developed and the studies carried out by the CONSENS partners are promoted in the communities that are relevant for the project, reaching Research Communities and Industrial End-users but also policy makers and the general.

4 Coordination and Implementation of
Dissemination Activities To achieve the communication objectives defined above in section 3, a concrete plan for coordinating
and implementing the defined strategy is presented below. This section answers to the “hoW to
disseminate” question.
In order to ensure and to cross check the performance of the dissemination activities against the strategic goals, it is necessary to nominate the responsible partners, to follow up the implementations of activities and to control the process. At the content level, key messages for each target group should be clearly drawn, informational vectors defined and events planning developed.
4.1 Partners’ Responsibilities
Partners have agreed on the roles concerning the CONSENS project awareness raising and dissemination activities (no changes comparing with the Annex 1 of the Grant Agreement).
The work package 5 is led by inno who is also in charge of designing and implementing the
communication strategy, the branding and designs as well as publicity and promotion material
BTS is coordinating the set up of the Cross Sectoral Advisory Board with the support of inno, and
supports SPIRE-related activities
INVITE is in charge of Exploitation and IPR Management, and contributes
TUDO is providing strategic advice with regard to dissemination
The other consortium partners will contribute and actively support those task leaders
The partners involved will work closely with inno in order to provide input to all the dissemination activities, therefore playing an important role in disseminating information.
Using the promotional material produced at the very beginning of the project, all partners are in charge of disseminating the project locally in their countries – but also on a worldwide level - via their networks.
4.2 Tools for the Coordination of Dissemination Activities
In order to ensure that the communication strategy stays up to date, an internal control proce ss will be put in place. Its main elements are listed below. All partners will be asked to report on their activities and opportunities (a first list of activities and opportunities has been provided via the dissemination questionnaire and will be detailed in the following sections). inno, as WP5 responsible will check regularly the progress and, if needed, adjust the planning. TUDO will provide strategic direction when needed.
The communication plan (based on the dissemination questionnaires results) will be regularly maintained with the consortium partners, indicating:
Actions
Person in charge
Channel to be used
Purpose of the action
Content to be conveyed
Targeted audience
Etc.
16
Deliverable D5.1, V1.0 CONSENS communication strategy and communication tools Public
H2020-SPIRE-2014 – Project 636942 www.consens-spire.eu
This planning will be updated on a quarterly basis. The calendar on the projec t internal communication portal (SharePoint) will be a supporting tool for following the communication activities.
In addition, WP5 activities will be discussed during consortium plenary meetings, and conference calls will be set up in between the physical meetings of CONSENS partners which will also provide a platform to discuss any relevant issues.
4.3 SPIRE dissemination objectives
The CONSENS dissemination strategy shall respect the dissemination values and objectives of the SPIRE PPP. In view of its role as facilitator and “guardian” of the values and objectives of the SPIRE PPP, as well as of the success and implementation of its agreed Key Performance Indicators, the A.SPIRE Association has been encouraged by the European Commission and mandated by the A .SPIRE Board of Directors to take an integrated approach to communication and dissemination. In the light of this strategic objective A.SPIRE has to be backed by a communication strategy running throughout the projects’ duration in order to properly inform on their objectives and outputs, and involve stakeholders from Europe and other countries into their activities in order to incite, exploit and build on the synergies created by these projects. The joint dissemination actions will improve visibility and u ptake of project results as well as help identify collaboration opportunities during the projects lifetime.
The Communication and Dissemination Support herein identify tools and techniques offered by the
A.SPIRE Secretariat to the projects’ communication and dissemination activities. This document seeks
to provide some guidelines in ways to reach A.SPIRE target audiences and stakeholders directly
involved in the projects. The Communication and Dissemination Support is a living document which will
be continuously updated with best practices, information about communication tools and so on.
In specific terms, the joint A.SPIRE and SPIRE PPP projects communication and dissemination approach
intends to achieve the following objectives:
Support information exchange between projects which address the same calls and/or sectors;
Be able to capture progress and knowledge generated from the projects;
Ensure the link between projects from one bi-annual work programme to the other;
Support and enhance the cross-sectorial aspects and impact;
Support the effective exploitation of projects’ results beyond the consortia life-time;
Capture projects’ outputs to allow for identification of technology gaps and in order to develop policy
framework recommendations;
Provide to the projects visibility and recognition among targeted stakeholders in the SPIRE community
and beyond;
Ensure dissemination of EU funding opportunities for process industries;
Co-organise events and meetings to disseminate the projects to the SPIRE community at large.
The A.SPIRE Secretariat will offer the following communication material and activities to be used in the projects’ communication and dissemination strategy:
1. Support in creating shared graphical identity;
2. SPIRE projects’ label;
3. Integration of the projects’ information in the SPIRE web-based platform;

5 Targeted Audiences and Relevant
Messages As presented in section 3, the dissemination strategy of the project answers to different needs and
objectives, and therefore different audiences will be targeted. It is essential that different communities
are addressed with messages and tools adapted to their interests and uses. This section answers to the
“to Whom to disseminate” and “What to disseminate” questions.
Disseminating knowledge and results is a crucial part of CONSENS, as in order to have an impact on ongoing
and future initiatives and activities in the process industry, it is important to raise awareness about the
outcomes of the project and attract interest from relevant Research Communities and Industrial End-users
worldwide.
The Dissemination Plan identifies the following three communities as target audience for CONSENS:
Chemical Industry stakeholders: This audience group is interested in getting feedback on the usability
of the CONSENS research results and their further commercialisation.
Staff of the consortium’s large companies members: CONSENS partners represent a significant part of
the European chemical industry and the consortium is composed of large multinational companies,
involving various other departments not directly involved with the project and that could benefit from it
results.
Research community: researchers or other R&D organizations that are interested in the development
of process industry and in the research activities of CONSENS.
Additionally:
At a later stage, the dissemination towards higher education community will be discussed with the relevant
partners.
The EC and national policy makers, as well as general (scientific oriented) public might be interested in the
potential impacts of the project for the citizens.
Table 1 below presents the tools and key messages most relevant for the different targeted audiences.

6 CONSENS Communication and
Promotion Tools As presented above in section 5, different target audience have different uses and interests and must
therefore be addressed by a complementary set of tools. This section present the tools set-up for the
project communication and further answers to the “hoW to disseminate” and “What to disseminate”
questions.
Publications produced by CONSENS will aim to consolidate information about goals, activities and results of the
project and incite the relevant communities to provide feedback, communicate their requirements and adapt
their activities.
Some publicity tools are generated during the first six months of the project. Most of this work is focused on
the creation of media which will be maintained and used throughout the project as vehicles to disseminate
information about the project and its achievements.
The main publicity tools will be:
The CONSENS web site
Newsletter and press releases
Scientific publications
Participation in major events and conferences of interest with project presentations (see chapter 7 for
detailed information)
6.1 CONSENS Branding During the first three months of the project, the CONSENS branding is defined in order to make the project
easily recognisable. It shall represent the stable visual element for project presentation and promotion.
The branding pack prepared by inno and to be used by the project partners includes:
6.1.1 Project logo and visual identity
The project logo has been designed by a professional designer based on proposals from the partners of the
consortium and has been agreed on by the partners. The logo has been designed to be easily recognisable and
to be meaningful to technical people, letting the technical concept of the project shine through.
Figure 4 - CONSENS logo
Different versions of the CONSENS logo have been produced, adapted to different backgrounds and displays
(screen, print, black and white). The logo is available both in pixel and vector formats, and also available for the
partners’ use via the project internal communication platform (SharePoint).

Feedbacks from the dissemination questionnaires show that flyers (see section 6.3) and posters are required by
the partners for the project’s event and will be then prepared in the first 8 months of the project.
6.2 CONSENS Website The first version of the CONSENS website www.consens-spire.eu will be available before the end of Month 4 (April 2015) and will be finalised before the end of Month 6 (June 2015).
According to the partners’ feedback: “Project dissemination activities should provide a communication platform that provides easy insight to the outside world in both the joined activities of the consortium as a group, but also room for paying attention to achievements of the individual partners”. The CONSENS website shall in this way represent the first vehicle in raising awareness of the project and contains a general presentation of the project objectives and the consortium as well as all public information related to the project activities, results, events etc. It follows the CONSENS branding and plays an important role in the information campaign. It will be updated all along the project lifetime with the latest results and findings (at least once per month) as regular updating of the web site information are a necessary condition of its effective functioning.
Promotion of the CONSENS project will also be done through other relevant web portals in order to create synergy effects. A mirror page of the project website will be made available on the SPIRE platform.
The project website targets all of the main targeted audiences of the project (research communities, industrial end-users,). Policy markers/general public can also benefit from the visits to the web site, to learn about project advancements, outcome and potential impacts. It will present a general introduction to the project and its potential impact. More advanced users will find regular news of the project and access to the publications, deliverables and events. The following sections have been approved by the project partners and will be listed in the CONSENS website:
Home
Project : project description
Consortium: partners description and links to their websites
Case studies
Outcomes: project publications and others outcomes, including public deliverables
News and Events
Contact (form to contact the coordinator)
Links
The Website will be designed to responsive web technologies to enable optimum visualization independently of the targeted device (PC, tablet, and mobile).
As presented in section 4.3, the project will set up metrics to monitor the project website traffic and the origin and interest of the website audience.
A dedicated deliverable “D5.2 CONSENS website”, will fully desc ribe the project website and is due on month 6.
6.3 CONSENS flyer and posters A CONSENS flyer will be compiled around Month 7 and will be used to present the project, its goals and the consortium. The project flyer shall reflect the ideas and planned activiti es of the project in a first time and might be updated with information about major outcomes and results in a second step.
It shall serve as a calling card for presentation to influential readers – chemical industry experts, national and local authorities, stakeholders, media representatives, etc.
Produced early in the lifetime of a project, a flyer:
Explains the background for undertaking the initiative

Provides an overview of the consortium and contacts: names, e-mail details, websites
A CONSENS poster will be compiled around month 8 will “mirror” the flyer and will give a general
overview on the project. It will be disseminated by the partners internally (within their
companies) and externally. Additionally, specific scientific posters will be prepared by the
relevant partners to disseminate specific project results.
6.4 CONSENS Project Presentation Following the CONSENS branding, a generic CONSENS presentation will be developed to be used for awareness-raising and information at events and via the partner’s networks. It can be used by all persons involved in the project to disseminate the project objectives, its status and the expected results. It can be easily adapted by partners for specific audiences and updated with new information. It will first detail the structure of the project in terms of objectives, main results that the project aims to achieve and the tools the project will use.
The presentation aims at attracting the interest of relevant communities and stakeholders etc.
6.5 Social Media Communication Strategy The feedback of the consortium members during the kick off meeting was that the social media is not in the focus of the CONSENS project. Thus, no specific activities are planned. However, the dissemination project responsible will closely follow the SPIRE activities on social media, and when relevant/needed, post project information on relevant media with links to the SPIRE accounts: @SPIRE2030, #SPIRE2030.
6.6 Publication Repository In order to promote the scientific advances by the project, a complete publication repository shall be maintained on the project internal web portal (SharePoint, with restricted access) and on the project website. It will contain: Conference papers, Presentations, Journal Papers, Patents, etc.
CONSENS partners are requested to inform the WP5 leader on publications (submitted and accepted) (via the form in annex C); with the following information:
Partner name
Workpackage/task related to this publication
Publication type: conference, journal…
DOI code
Publication title
Authors’ name(s)
Full reference (with source volume, issue…)
Link to the publication (needed to publish on a open access platform such as arxiv.org)
Publication abstract (to announce on the web site)
Date of publication (or date of submission)
Current status (planned, submitted, accepted, presented, published…)
Foreseen commercialization, established partnerships, protection strategy or related patents, time
frame…
Additional information (if any)
The WP5 leader, inno, will remind regularly to report new publications, and update the record.
NOTE
According to the articles 29.1 and 29.2 of the grant agreement, the partners are to provide open access
25
Deliverable D5.1, V1.0 CONSENS communication strategy and communication tools Public
H2020-SPIRE-2014 – Project 636942 www.consens-spire.eu
to the project scientific publications. Options are the following :
Open access publishing (also called 'Gold' open access) means that an article is immediately provided in
open access mode by the scientific publisher. The associated costs are shifted away from readers, and
instead to (for example) the university or research institute to which the researcher is affiliated, or to
the funding agency supporting the research
Partners can self-archive (also referred to as 'green' open access): the published article or the final peer-
reviewed manuscript is archived (deposited) by the author - or a representative - in an online repository
before, alongside or after its publication. Repository software usually allows authors to delay access to
the article (‘embargo period’)
6.6.1 Approval procedure The CONSENS approval procedure is applicable for all external communications:
journals, abstracts, flyers, press release as well as web site content.
As detailed in the grant agreement, the partners have 45 days to object the publication. If there is no objection,
the publication is considered as approved. The delay of 45 days can be decreased in all partners expressively
indicate the approval of publication.
The following step will be respected to ensure that a document is approved:
1. The document is finalised by the authors and validated by the partners lead responsible
2. It is circulated to all members of the General Assembly and to the approval responsible (Malte-Joern
Salge , INVITE) via email.
3. The approval responsible will put as soon as possible a corresponding item into the list of publications
for approval and notify the GA members that voting is possible.
4. Only the GA members can edit the items and vote by switching from “pending” to “accepted” or
“rejected”.
5. If a GA member rejects a publication, he has to contact the author(s) and the coordinator immediately
and explain the reasons for rejection.
6. The author(s) can check the list to see the progress, and he/she may contact a GA member to ask for
an answer.
7. When all GA members have accepted (or no GA member has rejected the publication until the
deadline of 45 days), the publication can be released.
This procedure will ensure that every publication or external communication material is validated and
approved (not rejected) by the CONSENS consortium.

7 Scheduled and Opportunistic
Communication In addition to the activities running through the whole lifetime of the project, scheduled and
opportunistic communication will be done. One main vector of the knowledge dissemination will be the
participation in major events and conferences of interest for CONSENS partners. This section answers
to the Where to disseminate and When to disseminate questions.
In order to ensure regular communication throughout the project lifetime, scheduled and opportunistic communication will be done.
Regularly scheduled communication:
Press releases (for relevant project milestones or important events)
Project newsletters (at least one per year, i.e. minimum 3 newsletters) and contributions to the SPIRE newsletters when relevant.
Opportunistic communication:
Participation in conferences and other events of interest for the partners
Scientific publications in specialised journals and newspapers
The calendar on the internal project web portal (SharePoint) will support regular planning updates as well as internal exchange and will be used to monitor opportunities for communication. Scientific publication opportunities shall be monitored by the academic partners to ensure a maximum impact of the project.
7.1 Press Releases and Articles in Specialized Journals and Newspapers
7.1.1 Press Releases
The CONSENS project will prepare press releases to raise awareness and disseminate information about the project. Press releases will be prepared for project important events or relevant milestones.
It is expected that during the first months of the project, the partners will focus on disseminating the general
information and the main aim of the project through a first press release (prepared by inno) and when
participating in events and conferences of interest. The key messages to highlight in these first dissemination
activities include:
What the project is about and what is its expected impact?
What are the project objectives?
Who is involved in the project?
What results are planned?
The first project press release has already been prepared (see annex C)
7.1.2 The concept of the Newsletters
A newsletter is a tool to inform relevant target audiences about the evolution of a project. News items will be issued regularly in order to report about CONSENS deliverables, events where CONSENS will be (or was) presented, important findings, etc. It is planned to make
The project newsletter will be short and will:

Provide a flexible structure with short key messages in the first 1-2 pages, with internet-type links to the more detailed information
Use a pdf format which allows to place the NL on the project website as downloadable pdf files and also for direct mailing
Ensure a professional level of quality in terms of design (project branding for the newsletter in addition to the project logo will be developed)
Make sure the project partners shall be involved in the content development
The graph below shows the partners expectations on the content of the Newsletters:
Figure 7 Partners' expectations on the project Newsletters.
Accordingly to the partners’ expectations the newsletter shall provide update on project activities and outcomes, information about articles published by the project, information o n upcoming events related to CONSENS and request to external partners. The other characteristics might appear on the project newsletter upon sufficient feedbacks from the partners.
Newsletter development stages are as follows:
A first short draft of a contribution to the newsletter with the proposed topics and ideas (with requested
inputs from the partners in bullets prepared by the lead partner) is sent to all project partners for their
comments and suggestions (before the approval procedure)
A reworked and edited (according to the comments), more detailed version of the contribution to the
NL with the request to deliver some specific information is sent to all project partners.
A final version of the contributions to the newsletter is prepared after proofreading and editing and
placed for partner’s approval. When this version has passed the procedure approval detailed in section
6.6.1, it will be provided to a professional designer to create the pdf versions.
It is planned to make at least one newsletter per year.
Finally, when relevant, the CONSENS project will contribute the SPIRE monthly newsletters by providing inputs
on the project results or progress or any other relevant project information (such as extracts from CONSENS
press releases or/and project newsletters...) and upon approval of the consortium.

Table 2 - Targeted events and conferences
This list shall be regularly updated. It will be necessary to continuously monitor and identity dissemination
opportunities, to set the criteria for participation in these events and to decide which events should be
supported and which communication/dissemination tools should be used.
The goal will be to inform stakeholders about the objectives of the project, its achievements and available
outcomes. CONSENS partners will make sure to distribute publicity material at those events and, where
possible, to make presentations.
All partners will keep track of the events they attend, and a complete list will be reported in the periodic and
final awareness-raising and dissemination report. Lists of the events that are planned to be attended are
reported in the table above. It is important to notice that the list is neither exhaustive nor mandatory.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
All the partners should prepare the list of upcoming national events in the next months where they plan to
participate with relation to CONSENS dissemination (with or without partial funding of CONSENS) and report it
to the WP5 leader and project coordinator.
In addition, all participation in an event need to be reported by the project partners using the form provided in
Annex A. The reporting include the elements requested by the European Commission for formal reporting to
the EC:
Country, location
Name and dates of the event
Event description
The list of attendees from CONSENS
CONSENS partner participation (short report – 0,5 page maximum – the type of participation, project promotion- e.g. project presentation, banner, project material distribution, interview with mass-media, personal contacts established for further collaboration under the project, etc.)

H2020-SPIRE-2014 – Project 636942 www.consens-spire.eu
7.3 Internal (intra-corporate) dissemination within consortium partners
As detailed in section 5, intra-corporate dissemination is one of the main objectives of the CONSENS
communication strategy. To reach efficiently the partners, staff it has been discussed that communication
material (such as flyer or the displaying of posters) within the partners companies would be one of the best
ways to communicate about the project. The communication materials can be directly displayed at relevant
places of the partner companies.
Press-releases and the project newsletters are another tool for internal dissemination, and the CONSESN
partners are encouraged to use these tools.
Additionally, an option could be to organise events for the internal staff of the consortium partners (industrial
companies). Two options are possible and will be discussed with partners:
A partner organises a meeting internally about the CONSENS project, and then he/she might require
support from the consortium team, if needed.
Project workshops can be organized in a central location in conjunction with the plenary meetings, for
internal consortium staff and if relevant, to invite public audience to join.
7.4 Networking with Relevant Communities In order to increase the efficiency of the project, the activities pursued by CONSENS need to be synchronised with relevant external initiatives and to be confronted with different stakeholder’s views.
7.4.1 SPIRE community
The CONSENS project will not only follow the SPIRE dissemination recommendations, but has also planned to have joint workshops with projects funded under the same call (H2020 -SPIRE-1). The planned activities of these workshops are still under discussion, but it has been confirmed that CONSENS and ProPAT will have joint workshops.
Other activities with the SPIRE communities, such as the SPIRE knowledge platform are also planned. This platform (under construction and discussion within the SPIRE association) will be a useful tool for internal communication between the projects, but also a way to disseminate ide as and project results within the network and to find detailed information about the SPIRE community.
Furthermore, as explained in the section 7.1.2, the CONSENS project will contribute when relevant to the SPIRE newsletter. It shall also make use of the SPIRE Network to disseminate the project activities (press release, project events...)
Regular contacts to these projects and activities shall be maintained, and networking opportunities shall be organised to ensure smooth communication.
7.4.2 Cross-Sectoral Advisory Board To maximize the impact of the project, the research and development work must be in line with the
requirements of industry. The CONSENS project therefore intends to set up a Cross-Sectorial Advisory Board
(CAB). CAB will consist mostly of scientists and managers who can provide practical assessments and ideas.
Members of the CAB will be:
Approximately 10 stakeholders from most relevant sectors of the European processing industry and
academia, where the advanced control strategies that will be experimented in the project can be
applied or where experiences exist that can be useful for the CONSENS project.
32
Deliverable D5.1, V1.0 CONSENS communication strategy and communication tools Public
H2020-SPIRE-2014 – Project 636942 www.consens-spire.eu
The external members of the CAB will be involved as “active observers” in the project activities. They will
especially assess the transferability of concepts, methods and technologies of integrated process control into
their branches.
More specifically, the objectives for involving the CAB members are the following:
To gather requirements and inputs on the needs and vision in terms of optimization of the continuous
and automatic controls in industry processes
To provide the consortium with market as well as technological insights for aspects needed to assess the
potential of the CONSENS technology
To help assessing the impacts of the newly developed techniques and their suitability for applications
beyond the chemical industry , and to obtain advice in order to maximize the project impact (in terms of
transferability of concepts, methods and technologies)
To identify cross-sectorial opportunities and obstacles
To obtain input for the case studies with respect to alternative and complementary approaches to
overcome the specific challenges.
To identify additional exploitation opportunities of the project results
To help in dissemination of the project outcomes
Participation to the CAB will bring to the participants:
Early access to a substantial part of the information package of CONSENS
Information on the ongoing developments
Awareness of possible exploitation opportunities
A higher European level visibility
7.4.3 Relevant associations Additionally, project materials will be communicated to the relevant associations, such as:
SUSCHEM
CEFIC
ProcessNet
NAMUR
