PRAYER FOR SEMINARIANS

DAILY PRAYER FOR PRIESTS

Keep them, I pray Thee, dearest Lord, keep them, for they are Thine - Thy priests whose lives burn out before Thy consecrated shrine. Keep them, for they are in the world, though from the world apart; when earthly pleasures tempt, allure - shelter them in Thy heart. Keep them, and comfort them in hours of lone-liness and pain, when all their lives of sacrifice for souls seems but in vain. Keep them, and O remem-ber, Lord, they have no one but Thee, yet they have only human hearts, with human frailty. Keep them as spotless as the Host, that daily they caress; their every thoughts and word and deed, Deign, dearest Lord, to bless.

Comfort them upon their sickbed and ease their suffering. We beg for deliverance, and submit that no healing is too hard for the Lord, if it be His will. We therefore pray that You bless our friends with Your loving care, renew their strength, and heal what ails them in Your loving name. Thank you Lord

“My heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved.” Romans 10:1

_____________________________________________________

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I wanted to say a few things regarding the month of November, traditionally given to prayer for the souls in Purgatory. We remember the souls who have made it to heaven on the Solemnity of All Saints (November 1) and souls in Purgatory on the Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed (November 2). Prayers can and should be offered for the Holy Souls throughout the year, but November is a time for us to call them to mind in a particular way. Have you ever noticed how the church bells toll at 9:00? Have you wondered why? The nine o’clock hour is a time traditionally devoted to praying for the souls of the faithful departed. Similar to the Angelus, there is a prayer traditionally said as the bells ring 9 times. This prayer is called the De Profundis, Latin for “out of the depths.” It is the text of Psalm 129 (or 130 depending on your translation). Out of the depths I have cried to Thee, O Lord! Lord, hear my voice! Let thy ears be attentive

to the voice of my supplications! If thou, O Lord, Shouldst mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared. I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than the watchmen for the morning. O Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with him is plenteous redemption. And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities. Glory be to the Father…

Another prayer which can be offered for the dead and which we recite at funerals is the Requiem

Ætérnam: Eternal rest grant unto him/her (them), O Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon him/her

(them). May he/she (they) rest in peace. Amen. It is an act of charity to pray for the dead. I think that frequently people forget to pray for the dead. Our neglect to pray for them leave them to suffer longer in Purgatory, but it also leaves us without the aid of their prayers. St. John Vianney once remarked that if we knew the power of the Holy Souls in Purgatory with the Heart of God, “they would not be so much forgotten.” In my personal experience, I have prayed for the souls in Purgatory. I prayed the most for them when I was in seminary and could easily visit the cemetery after supper. I became quite convinced of their prayers for me. The greatest consolations I have received for the death of people close to me, especially ones who died taking their life or in strange circumstances, have been through continued prayer for their souls. I have also found solace and help from heaven, even praying for the souls of holy persons who have died. Fr. Campeaux

Adorers for perpetual adoration needed

“Come to me, all you that labor, and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

Adorer needed for Friday @ 5 p.m.

Please call Andrea Robinson at 223-0640 to commit spending

an hour with the Lord.

Perpetual Adoration “When Jesus looks at a soul, immediately He gives it His divine resemblance. But, it is necessary for this soul never to stop fixing it’s gaze on Him alone”. St. Theresa of the Child Jesus What better place to go than to the adoration chapel where He longingly and lovingly waits for us!

November 17 Let's try not to be exacting with other people, but rather to pass over in silence those thousand

little annoyances that tend to irritate us. For we know that no one is perfect in this life, and we must put up with the

defects of others as they put up with ours.

ABOUT WORLD DAY OF THE POOR

This day was instituted in 2016 by Pope

Francis, at the end of the Year of Mercy. It

invites Christians to see people who are

poor not simply as recipients of charity, but

as human beings who we have an

on-going relationship with, and as people

who have a particular insight into the

Gospel.
