Cyclic Changes in the Female Genital System

۰۶:۴۴By Dr:Abdulwdood(Afghanmal)

Page 2: Cyclic changes

Ovulation In every 28 days

Primordial follicle --- Graafian follicle(primordial follical, primary follical, secondary follical, mature follical)

Starting from 11 – 16 years of life

Ending at 45 – 50 years (menopause)

• Two cycles take place simultaneously in the female genital system:

1: Ovarian cycle:2: Menstruation or uterine cycle 1: Ovarian cycle

A:Pre-ovulatory Phase

Secretion of FSH from hipophysis

Development and growth of ovarian follicles

Proliferation of the endometrium

Secretion of estrogen hormone

B: Ovulation Phase

Takes place on the 14th (+/-1) day of ovulation cycle Doesn’t take place during pregnancy

Rare in lactating women

Mechanism:

Under the influence of Luteatropin hormone

Increased fluid pressure in the follicle

Influence of collagenase and plasmin enzymes

C: Post ovulatory phase

Formation of corpus luteum

Temporary endocrine gland

Secrets progesterone

Control by LH

4. Involution or Regression phase Corpus luteum gets atrophy and turns to corpus albicans

2: Menstruation or Uterine Cycle Premenstrauation or Secretory Phase

12 days Endometrial thickness reaches to the maximum Secretion of uterine glands

Glycogen Mucin

Uterine is ready for the implantation of fertilized ovum Also called luteal phase If the ovum has not fertilized 12-14 day and no progesterone If the ovum has fertilized 3-4 month( plasenta formation)

A: Menstrual phase 3-5 days 50 – 60cc blood No coagulation due to the presence of proteolytic enzymes Thickness of endometrium remains 1/10 of the normal

Post menstruation or Proliferation Phase

10 days

Endometrium repairs under the influence of estrogen

hormone

Also called follicular phase
