Here upon is stated naratively the activities we performed in the two day mobilization training held in Los Banos, Laguna dated august 29-30, 2009.

Stated herein, the lessons we have learned from each of the events about the different sort of the environment, whereas giving them values, and in developing our civic conciousness physically, morally, spiritually, and socially.

2. PREFACE

This documentation was made for it was a proposed project for us, in partial fulfillment to NSTP-CWTS course, pusuant to the republuc act 9163 an act establishing the NSTP for tertiary level students.

This contains the important concept based upon the two day mobilization training done in mount Makiling. Wherein, enhancing the conception of the students about the environment, the public and civic affairs. Inculcating them to form part of the nation as a good and efficient citizen and also for preparation in times of calamity or disaster that would be going to happen.

3. DEDICATION

I have made this documentation for a purpose of not just for completion, but also to share the knowledge and lessons I have learned from the mobilization training.

So I'm dedicating this work to my fellow students who have not encountered yet this kind of meaningfull experience ever came to my way. I hope that they could get even a piece of lesson from this work which I have exerted a lot of effort to complete.

IV. ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN

i. CAMP ORIENTATION

We had left the TUP campus around six o'clock and track the way through mount Makiling in Los Banos Laguna for our most awaited mobilization training. This trip consummed more than two hours before arriving to the said training camp. From there, we saw the tent were already been built and was lined according to the number of MB's. My companion and I were amazed for we thought it was a bigger tent to be accomodated, but our prediction have not made it. If we were going to sleep on that particular tent, we would be looked like as if fishes inserted in a can tightly.

Supposedly, all the trainees must form a line in front of the stage before to occupy the tent, but because the busses were not simultaneously coming, we had already occupied the tent, Hence, there was a mess from choosing it. We have chosen the wrong tent which is not belong to our MB's but it was just a little mistakes so we are not going to give a big deal on it, anyway we had fixed it at the end.

ii. OPENING PROGRAM

At last, all the trainees had arrived completely and the tent was fully occupied. After a few minutes we were called to form a line in front of the stage for the opening program, in which dictating us the activities we should perform for that day and for the following day. It was composed of eight activities which were, nature's appreciation, group formation, water survival training, team building, emergency preparedness, obstacles, values formation, and first aid. While gathering us, there were some students who had not made to join the line, as a result, they had given punishment. They were urged to form a line on the stage instead on the ground, and will do the chicken dance. Actually the facilitator want them to put in the state of shame but that's not what happened, but rather it overwhelm all the trainees to perform also the chicken dance.

1. NATURES FAMILIARIZATION

This was our first activity for the first day of the training in which contains sub activities divided into four bases. These are:

BASE 1: CHANTING COMPOSITION

In this base we were instructed to compose a yell or a chant in order to fill us with vigor and to keep our senses in a presence. This should be sung everytime we were going to enter a base. This was the yell:

KNOWLEDGEABLE IS COMING, COMING TO THE FOREST

THE CREATURES ARE COMING, WE HEARD THE SOUND OF SPECIES

HOO HOO, HAA HAA, TWIT TWIT,

GOOOOOOOOOH TRAINEES

BASE 2: SONG OR POEM WRITING

After completing the base one we proceeded to this base, in which we have to compose again. But this time its quite different from the later base. Here, were going to compose a song or a poem containing a minimum of five lines that deals with the mother nature, so its a little bit harder than the yell composition and in fact we used a lot of time and effort just to finish this base. Here was our composition, it is in tagalog language:

SA AKING LUPANG BAYANG SINILANGAN

ISANG LIPI, ISANG LAHI NA DAPAT PAGKA-INGAT INGATAN

TULAD NA RIN NG ATING KINALALAGYAN NA ISANG KABUNDUKAN

NA NGAYON AY ISA NG KAPATAGAN

MAKILING, ISANG BUNDOK NA BIYAYA NG KALIKASAN

NA BIGAY NG DIYOS NA DI DAPAT PABAYAAN

BASE 3: NATURE SKETCHING

Page 7: Cwts-nstp Mobilization Training

Here, our of being an artist was being challenge because we are instructed to sketch a nara tree and chose from its part its best asset for our own perception. Luckily, we had of the members whos got a great hands in terms of this matter. But this time, this drawing I indicated here was made by me. Here it is:

BASE 4: DRAWING AN ART

Page 8: Cwts-nstp Mobilization Training

This was the last base for the first activity, wherein we have to express our feeling about nature through drawing, then explaining what we have drawn. As you can see here, we illustrated a boy planting a new plant, which implies that reforestration is needed to reduce the lose of trees due to illegal activities and to prevent disasters to happen like floods, rock fall, landslide etc.

2. OBSTACLE

Our next activity was the obstacle challenge. But before proceeding to this activity we took rest first to regenerate energy. Minutes later, we were gathered for the activity to be conducted in the obstacle area. Twin tunnel was our first obstacle challenge. We took a long time here because of the jumbled queue and the tunnel was quite small thats why we were performing it one by one.

2.1. TWIN TUNNEL

In this obstacle we were going to pass through a skinny and slippery tunnel via creeping, fortunately it wasn't hard thing to do but it makes you untidy. Aside from that, we got a priceless unforgettable and indespensible experience. But these did not end like that because we have four more obstacles to overcome.

2.2. ISLAND HOPPING

Page 9: Cwts-nstp Mobilization Training

After finishing the twin tunnel, we proceeded to this activty in which we were going to hop on the cylindrical shape concrete stabled on the ground. It was easy as a piece of pie that I haven't used even a single of my energy.

2.3.

This activity was quite the same as the twin tunnel, only the difference was this was made of several ropes ensembled as a hole. We pass through also here, and this causes a lot of trouble to our shirts. In this activity, I found it difficult to do because of my physical fitness. I have a wide shoulder and a long leg which keeps impeding me to pass through this obstacle but then I took it as a challenge so i had made it to the last.

2.4. HANGING TIRE

After completing the latest activity we went to the next obstacle, the hanging tire. This time my weakness on that activity was my strength in here. It was my advantage to perform this obstacle for I have a long reach and I can have a big pace on each of the hanging tire. Unfortunately to those who had great weights and short reach that could hardly made it especially to my co-trainee Gawen. You can see it in the pictorials on the other page.

2.5. SPIDER WEB

After we finish the hanging tire we proceeded here that was called the “spider web” for it was composed of ropes ensembled as a spider web. The mechanism was to climb and get pass to this obstacle that was built seven foot high. A little scary right?. But it did not intense me even a single muscle. It wasn't hard thing to do so we made it getting pass through here. Thereafter, we walk down on a muddy soil using the provided rope for the next activity stated in the preceeding paragraph.

2.6. TIRE TUNNEL

This was the last obstacle we performed on the obstacle area that was composed of tires aligned to create a tunnel and almost four meters in lenght. Its diameter was more or less one foot and a half that was not enough to suit to my

wide shoulder, thus I did not perform that obstacle although I wanted it to experience. After this activity we moved out to find for the exit which ended up on the road side.

Page 10: Cwts-nstp Mobilization Training

There we took some rest first before proceeding to the next activity. We were so excited because the next activity was the water survival for we were so dirty on that time so I think it was our chance to take a bath.

WATER SURVIVAL

To the camp, after preparing our necesarry utilities for swimming we walk to the venue to where we are performing the last activity for the first day. It was a long distance from the camp to the water survival area that took almost 20 minutes walk. When we got there we were ask to form a line to brief us the do's and dont's when performing the activity to prevent accidents and also about the subactivities that we were going to perform.

After that we proceeded to do the first activity in which we were tought the basics on how to swim that was one of the important matter to the water survival. We took a long time here that the twilight have already came, as a result the facilitator had decided to let us just swim and have fun thats why we couldn't be able to perform the next subactivity. After then we took our shower then went to the camp to rest, unfotunately the heavy rains took place when we were walking back to the camp then I realized that our things would suffer to wet because the tent was quite small, so suddenly I ran fast as I could with one of my groupmates to secure our bags. After a long ran, luckily we found our things weren't wet already. It was so sad that the rain disrupted everything and ruined our excitement.

Due to this condition we were evacuated to the cottage, wherein it was much comfortable to rest than to the tent. But we were unfortunate for we ran out of cottage to be occupied thats why we stayed on the stage for the rest of the night.

NIGHT VIGIL

When the rain stopped all the trainees were gathered in front of the stage for the night vigil. We prayed first then started the opening with a group of dancers which implying about nature apreciation. After that we were given a candle to lit up then we do as we were instructed, consequently the lights were turned off then the speaker started to tell us story about the mother and child relationship featuring the profound sadness of the mother because she felt that her child doesn't care for her anymore. The story structed deep down to my heart that I felt every words the speaker leap, indeed I cried. The vigil was finished around 11:30 then, after that its time to sleep for the rest of the night.

AN UNEXPECTED EVENT

Page 11: Cwts-nstp Mobilization Training

In the midst of the night I had been awaken because someone was shouting, and thus, I had known that it had been possesed by spirit. It was really a horrible incidents for that night even my hair stood up. Luckily, few only had witnessed that. As a result, we attributed a prayer for that terrifying event. After the prayer the tense had been lowered and we were all in calm state and thats the time to sleep again.

DAY 2

I woke up early and some of my companion at five o'clock. We went first to the comfort room to regulate our stomach then after, we had our breakfast. While walking to bought for hot water I saw that there were group of trainees slept on the ground with the “trapal” on their back that serves as their bed. I wonder if they could slept on there well. Their foot were extending touching those tiny rocks, it's so cold. But maybe because of their tiredeness that they could bear it there.

After taking up our breakfast we stoodby at the moment to wait for the trainees to be awaken. Supposedly we have to woke up as early as five o'clock but It was around seven o'clock when they were awaken, I guess they had their sleep very well due to the incident last night.

When they were all awaken we had to perform again the last four activity for that day. We hadn't had any idea that there should be a program to be conducted first for the briefing again for the activities to be undertaken. We decided to wait for our groupmates to the water survival area so we didn't heard of the program advisory but I think it was just the same as to the yesterday program.

WATER SURVIVAL CONTINUATION

After the program all of the trainees that would be performing the water survival activity proceeded to the area. We were going to perform again this activity because we had not finish it yet that day. So after a long wait, finally they've come and we were about to perform the unfinished subactivity, in which demonstrating us the method of making an improvized floater using our shirts and jagging pants.

Firstly, we had been taught how to create an improvized floater using our shirt by covering our mouth extending upto the back of head under the ears and blowing air onto it and thus a floater had been created. The only thing that should be prevented was not to allow the air to pass out the floater. Secondly, the jagging pants. Knotting its edge tightly then jumping within the water to accumulate pressure to make floater. Then in order to maintain its size we need to splash water onto it. After completing the alternatives of salvavida making we proceeded to the next activity, wherein we were taught how to use a life jacket and the do's and dont's to avoid accidents instead of life saving. That was the time I knew that a simple shirt could save lives. Then, after completing those activities we gone to the camp already to take a bath because the shower in there weren't working that time.

Page 12: Cwts-nstp Mobilization Training

TEAM BUILDING

After taking a bath we wait first for the group to be completed, then we proceeded to the preceeding activity which was the team building. The first sub activity was:

* THREADING THE NEEDLE

We were separated in a group of two. The mechanism was inserting a rope that serves as a thread inside our shirt which we were the needle then finishing it upto the last member of the group. The winner will be declared if among us completed it first but the rope was quite short in length thats why the three of us hadn't been reached so we had to perform an activity which was quite different from threading the needle, which was we had to hid the rope within our shirts or any of things we wear. We should have to hid it that the observer couldn't see it anymore. Luckily, we did it very well so we had the permission to enter the next subactivity.

The next was walking using a long wood that was ensembled as a slipper with a built-in rope that can accommodate a capacity of four. In order to win we need to reach the finish line and getting two wins from the matches that consists of three sets.

The first round was almost a defeat on us, because the opposing team had advanced fastly. But in the last we had left them over and ended up to win. In the second round, we knew already the mechanics and the techniques thats why we defeated them again for the second time. So it was surely a win to us for we won two matches. We had lots of fun here that enticed us to request for a rematch. This time the matches was between girls to girls and boys to boys.

In the girls round, our team won because they implemented a right cooperation. Then after, its time for us to play. It was a close round that they were just one feet away from us but then again we took the win.

*PATRIOTISM

After that great enjoyment we proceeded to the last subactivity in which we were ask to make a song which conveying a message about patriotism to the nation. I couldnt indicate the copy here because I lost it.

After we complete the composition we took our lunch first before to perform the activity for it was already eleven thirty. Thereafter, we took time for digestion then automatically proceeded to the volunteer to sung the song we made. After that we were all done for that time and we're upto the next activity which was the emergency preparedness.

Page 13: Cwts-nstp Mobilization Training

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

They had taught us here the right ways we should do in times of calamity or disaster, from preparing the usefull prior things and foods to preparing the first aid kit. After the discussion we gone to the next topic the “first aid”.

FIRST AID

Here we had been taught about the procedure of threating an injured or unconscious person and on how to give them a suitable first aid. They first taught us how to know if the unconscious person had a broken bones. Then the implementations of the necessary procedure of carrying the patient if they hadn't had any injured part, but if they do, they had taught us also the methods of transfering the patient to the stretcher. After this, we proceeded to the next discusion with different facilitator which taught us the three classification of fire , its implication and the appropriate solution on extinguishing it. We had taught also the proper way of using a fire extinguisher the methods and which among the type of the fire it should be used.

After completing all the activities we were gathered in front of the stage for the closing ceremony, in which singing the national anthem, conducting a prayer and a closing remarks. After that we were called by MB's to occupy the busses. We had consumed a lot of time because some of the trainees were hardly cooperating thats why one of the volunteer angrily shouted at them, then thats the time they got involve in line. Thereafter were on to got on the bus then drive away from makiling to TUP. What a beautiful unforgetable experience ever came to me. Atlast I'm home after a long journey.

V. LESSONS LEARNED AND VALUES DEVELOPED

Page 14: Cwts-nstp Mobilization Training

TEAMWORK AND COOPERATION IS AN IMPORTANT SPICES TO A NATION TO ACHIEVED PROSPERITY.

LEARN TO CONSERVE NATURE BEFORE IT RUNS OUT.

STRONG FAITH IN GOD.

ANTICIPATION TO WHAT WOULD BE GOING TO HAPPEN.

VI. PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED

1. SCARCITY OF COMFORT ROOMS

2. HEAVY RAINS AT THE TWILIGHT THAT CAUSES OUR TENT TO BE RUINED.

VII. SUGGESTIONS

I think, so far the mobilization training was a job well done so I dont think I have suggestions but if I would have maybe, about the tent, to make it more bigger and better which can accommodate ten persons without inconvenience. Thats all.
