Learner Advisor July 2016-PresentForth Valley College

The purpose of my current role is to contribute to the development and coordination of learner guidance and information; student welfare and student finance across all campuses including community access provision within the Forth Valley Area and maintain quality standards. This includes being involved in the development and implementation of appropriate learner guidance and support mechanisms, collaborating with departments to ensure involvement and consistency of approach at all levels of learner welfare and acting as designated person for Child protection issues within the College. The key outputs include:

Referring where appropriate to internal policies and procedures together with legislative changes and government initiatives.

Deliver guidance interviews for current and prospective learners Provide learners with financial advice and liaise with learner finance staff where appropriate Develop and maintain robust cross college links Support staff and respond to Child Protection issues within the college Provide staff with information to assist with pre and on-course guidance Ensure effective and robust data input on College systems in accordance with appropriate

guidelines. Prepare regular reports when requested.

Student President July 2014- July 2016Forth Valley College

On completion of my Art degree I became very interested in the Education system and the college I studied in. I stood for election to be the Student Sabbatical President and held the position for two terms. The role is determined by the Student Association in discussion with College senior management. My focus included:

Being the main representative of the Students’ Association; carrying out individual and team campaigns/priorities/projects throughout the year; as a Board member attend the Board of Management, Strategic Development Committee, and other relevant College committees, writing detailed reports for these meetings and reporting back to the Students’ Association team;

Leading delegations to conferences and meetings with external bodies; working with the National Union of Students and other external partners, as well as encouraging internal collaboration between departments and the SA; meeting College management regularly and reporting back to the Students’ Association team;

Encouraging Forth Valley College students to get involved with the work of Students’ Association; developing and delivering Class Rep training, Listening to Learners and Student Council sessions; feeding back to students using the 'You Said, We Did' platform as well as group emails and social media channels; speaking at external events and conferences; ensuring the Student Association works as a motivated team and encouraging executive committee members to work to the best of their abilities;

Drafting the SA annual budget, and monitoring the expenditure in conjunction with the SLO officer, ensuring that all financial transactions are legitimate and the necessary paperwork and receipts are kept for all transactions, ensuring that the Student Association accounts are audited annually, and that these are presented to the Board of Management Finance Committee;

Being the official spokesperson of the Student Association to the media and others; coordinating the SA work in relation to the College’s Quality Assurance Process, ensuring that all students’ views and opinions are reflected throughout the Student Association’s work including groups within the protected characteristics;

Raising awareness of Equality and Diversity issues and services to students across campuses, acting as a contact to learners who would like to discuss their additional support needs to a fellow learner, respecting their confidentiality at all times; developing and maintaining social media channels;

Planning and facilitating student events such as Fresher's Fair and staff development workshops; working with Student Services to develop and deliver Information, Advice & Guidance sessions and UCAS workshops as well as proof reading and monitoring UCAS applications.
