SubjectCurriculum Information

Personal, Social and Emotional DevelopmentYour child will be learning to be aware of their own feelings and how their actions and words can hurt or harm others.

What you can do to help:Home activities that would be helpful: Encourage your child to be kind, helpful and caring. E.g. to siblings, friends, family members or pets.

Communication and Language As part of our Spring term 2 topic we will be learning about real life superheroes and how they keep us safe. We will be having visitors from our local community to come in and talk to us about their jobs. Ray the Local lollipop man will talk to us about Road safety, a nurse from the hospital will be coming in to talk about how she helps to make us better when we are poorly and our local community support PCSO will be coming in to talk to us about how she helps to keep our community safe.

What you can do to help:Talk to your child about road safety: Always hold a grown ups hand and stay on the pavement. Never run out onto a road or cross a road where it is not clear or safe to do so and always stop, look and listen before crossing a road to make sure that it is safe.

LiteracyDuring this term we will be writing thank you cards for our visitors and we will be making Easter cards for our family members.

What you can do to help:Encourage your child to write their name as often as possible and encourage them to hold their pens or pencils correctly. We will be doing lots of cutting so we would appreciate it if you could practice cutting at home. We can provide you with a pair of child safety scissors if you would like to borrow some!

MathematicsWe will be learning our numbers by counting on and back using games, songs and rhymes. To stretch our children and their learning we will be finding a total amount by adding and subtracting 1 more and 1 less and writing numbers.

What you can do to help:Practise counting everything and anything. E.g. how many stairs they walk up to go to bed, how many forks at the dinner table, how many carrots on your plate, how many cars on your street etc.

Understanding the WorldWe will be looking at technology, phones, computers, the internet, printers, photocopiers, cameras, tablets, laptops, beebots and remote control cars. We will be learning how technology helps us every day and how we use it. As part of our topic we will also be learning how to care for animals and we are looking into getting a class pet rabbit for nursery, so that the children can have a first hand experience of looking after and caring for animals

What you can do to help:Talk to your child about all the technology in your home and explain why and how you us it. Take photographs of your child using everyday technology ipads, games consoles, phones, computers etc for their learning journal in school. Encourage your child to help take care of family pets e.g. feeding regimes, walking, cleaning etc

Physical DevelopmentWe will be continuing to learn how to hold and use pencils, paintbrushes and scissors correctly. We will also be riding bikes to help to develop our road safety skills.

What you can do to help:Practise holding pencils and crayons correctly when mark making and colouring pictures. Practise cutting with and holding scissors.

Expressive Arts and DesignThis half term we will be learning songs linked to our topic, painting and drawing our pets and making cards and baking in readiness for Easter.
