CURLEDGE STREET NEWS
Final Summer Roundup Summer Term 2019 no 8
Message from Mrs Carter, Head of School
Dear All,
Another busy year has flown by and we’ve had an amazing final half term here at Curledge Street.
Our children have had a superb range of experiences including trips to Living Coasts, Dartmouth by steam train, Forest School, River Dart Country Park and a Skills Build day. We have celebrated Bastille Day and welcomed teachers from India, a veterinary nurse, our local MP, and an artist into school. We’ve ‘worn it wild’, cheered our teams at Sports Days, hosted our first swimming gala and run a marathon to boot!
And there are still more exciting things to come in this, our last week.
I would like to say a huge thank you to all the staff, parents and supporters of Curledge Street who make these things happen. We really couldn’t do it without you.
Please read on for a final summer round-up of news and information about up and coming events for Autumn 2019.
Have a wonderful summer and see you all in September!
Best Wishes
Mrs V Carter
PS: Don’t forget school closes @ 2pm on Friday!

Year 6 does it again!
Year 6 has had a FANTASTIC year. They have much to be proud of. They have excelled in so many areas. They have done their best to uphold the school values and have been great role models for the rest of the school.
In their reading, spelling, punctuation and grammar and maths SATs, they achieved well above national scores. Their progress has been among the best we’ve ever seen here at Curledge Street and nationally too.
We are so proud of you all Year 6 - You will be missed!
Unsung Heroes of Summer 2019
Congratulations to Hector, Lewis, James, Jasmine, Mia, Reveah and Harry, our
Unsung Heroes of the summer term. These children are always in the right place, at the right time, doing the
right thing! They are an excellent example of our school values in action and are role models for the rest of the
school. Each received a certificate, a small gift and the extra special Curlew Award badge. Well done all of you!
Engineering Awards You may remember from a previous newsletter that Year 2 took part in the Primary
Leaders Award 2018-2019 for the Southwest Region. The awards asked children 'If you
were an engineer what would you do?'
During the project the children worked with South Devon College, Magnus Christie
(engineer) and Jane Clymo (science teacher).
There were 3,469 entries this year with 371 shortlisted for the final round of judging.
Congratulations to Ethan, Ryleigh, Olly and Livvie. Their entries were awarded a ‘distinction’ and were amongst
those shortlisted. Their entries were placed on display at the Awards Exhibition in Bristol.

Fundraising Children and staff who ran The Torbay Half Marathon miles have raised an incredible £2104.51 ! huge thank you to everyone who supported this fundraising event and who donated to our very worthy cause.
Our total fundraising for the term including cake sales, ice-pops, plant sales and donations on the door for the
Year 6 performance means we have raised over £2700 for our Opportunities Fund.
We were also able to donate £137.21 to the World Wildlife Fund from our Really Wild Day at the beginning of June.
An Incredible Effort - Well done all!
Goodbyes and Farewells We are very sad to say goodbye to the following members of staff: Mr Fegan, Miss Welby, Mrs Smith, Miss Courtney, Mrs Goodrich and Mrs Reynolds. Between them they have over 15 years of service to the school and we are very grateful for all their hard work and efforts in making Curledge Street the successful learning community it is. They will be missed but they all go with our very best wishes for the future and we hope they will keep in touch.
Successes continue beyond CSA Flicking through the pages of the PCSA
newsletter I came across news of past
pupils doing great things!
Corey Dowden and Bryony Vass have been
selected to play rugby for Devon and
Dacjcan Stychno winning medals for his
talents in chess. Well done all!

If you haven’t done so already, please settle up your Parentpay account by the end of term. We would be very grateful for your support with this.
A booking sheet for after school clubs will be available after the summer break and clubs will commence on Monday 16th September.
We have an increasing number of pushchairs being left at the front of the school. We would like to remind parents that pushchairs should not be left at school and we cannot take any responsibility for any loss of or damage to these.
Sickness and diarrhoea Return to school following a period of sickness or diarrhoea can now be 24 hours after the last bout of illness rather than 48 hours as previously. This is in line with NHS recommendations. The only exception to this is norovirus which will remain at 48 hours clear after the last bout.
Reminders! ➔ Please could parents and children check at home for any school library books and return them to
Miss Cousins in the library as soon as possible.
➔ Please ensure all items of clothing are named for the new year.
➔ Please clear the playgrounds promptly at the end of the day. Children should not play on or with the outdoors equipment at this time.
