Who Should AttendPhysicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists and other clinicians who work with older adults, and/or desire information about advances in treatments for our aging population.

Course DescriptionThis conference is designed to provide participants (physicians, pharmacists, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, physician assistants and other health professionals) with advanced information through presentations, lectures and symposia. Topics will include the latest information on diagnosis, management, treatment and health policy for common problems in the aging population. With its theme of “Curing, Caring, Complexity: Best Practices in Geriatrics”, the meeting will provide information designed for front-line care providers, including insight from experience and review of recent research which will help participants to improve their care of older adults.

Course ObjectivesBy the conclusion of this conference, attendees should be able to:1. Describe assessment and non-surgical treatment options

for geriatric conditions like: diabetes, palliative care, pain management, liver disease, cancer and stroke.

2. Identify best practices for medication management and treatment goals for common conditions such as hypertension and depression.

3. Describe new options for surgical treatment of back disorders and use of radiation therapy.

4. Outline approaches to team-based care and performance measures for complex older adults in common geriatric care settings.

This program was made possible in part by Geriatric Training and Education (GTE) funds appropriated by the General Assembly

of Virginia and administered by the Virginia Center on Aging at Virginia Commonwealth University.
