  • Wawel Castle and the legend of the Wawel Dragon The Wawel Castle (Royal Castle) is situated on the hill. Polish Royalty and many distinguished Poles are buried in the Wawel Cathedral. Since the XIX century Wawel became the leading political and administrative centre for the Polish State. Royal coronations took place in Wawel as well.

  • Auschwitz Birkenau

    Auschwitz has become a symbol of terror, genocide, and the Holocaust. It was a site of mass murder and the biggest concentration camp established on Polish ground by the Nazis during the Second World War. At present the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum is located on the grounds of the camp. The site was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979.

  • Wieliczka Salt mine

    The historic Salt Mine in Wieliczka is the only mining site in the world functioning continuously since the Middle Ages. Its original excavations (longitudinals, traverses, chambers, lakes, as well as minor and major shafts) are located on nine levels and extend for the total of about 300 kilometers: reaching the depth of 327 meters.

  • Castle Pieskowa Skala

    Pieskowa Skaa is famous for its renaissance castle built by King Kazimierz Wieki in the 1st half of the 14th century as part of the defensive chain of castles called Orle Gniazda (Eagles Nests) along the plane of Jurassic Rock Upland (Jura Krakowsko-Czstochowska) extending north-west from Krakw to the city of Czestochowa.
