5210 Subsea Umbilical and Umbilical Riser Definition Rev :

Author :

Objective

Review and define requirements for the subsea umbilicals and umbilical riser(s)

Activities Description

Umbilical risers and seabed umbilicals will be required for subsea control, communications and chemical injection supplies to manifolds and trees.

Review and define requirements for: - Electrical power transmission

- Electrical or fibre optic signal transmission - Hydraulic fluid supplies (HP and LP)

- Injection chemical supplies

Compare the use of thermoplastic hose with steel tube cores to supply hydraulic fluids and chemicals for injection.

Consider construction with copper core cables for signal transmission or the use of fibre optic cores.

In collaboration with umbilical supplier(s):

- Establish optimum construction for the seabed umbilicals, complete with proposed cross section.

- Establish optimum construction for the dynamic umbilical risers, complete with proposed cross section, and also

the transition design between dynamic and seabed umbilicals.

- Determine any anchoring/buoyancy requirements for the dynamic umbilical riser section.

- Consider reducing the number of umbilical risers with distribution subsea.

Review any new technology that may enhance the umbilical system or reduce its cost.
