Dearest Sister,

Even this year you together with your community and every other believer in Christis reached by the Easter’s announcement: “The Lord is risen!” and with faith you respond:“He is truly risen!”.

Still immersed in the joy and gratitude to God for the election of the new Bishop ofRome, Pope Francis, characterized by simplicity and humility, I would like to linger withyou on the Easter proclamation.

It is an ancient and ever new proclamation that challenges and leads us every day alittle more to understand the consequences of our life as Sisters of Jesus Good Shepherd.

It is an proclamation that educates us to consider history, events, the entire humanvicissitude in the light of Easter, in the memory of the Crucified Risen Lord, He whoenables us to look at reality with the eyes that know to see in darkness the birth of a newworld. Yes, we are sustained by the certitude that history continues to be in the hands ofGod, the Unique Shepherd who never gets tired of shepherding his flock with his infinitemercy.

While we sing with the whole Church the Easter Alleluia, let us listen together towhat Jesus the Risen Good Shepherd says to us:

«My Pastorella, sometimes I see you dejected, but how can you not grasp thatwithin the human story touched by evil and death, I, the Firstborn from the dead, ampresent and transform every grave into a womb which germinates life.?

The situations of death present in human life, in your life, in fraternal relations, in theapostolate, in the daily weariness and burdens, in the unexpected illnesses, in theadvancing relentless old age ... are not paths with no exit, but in the power of myresurrection, are transformed into ways of life, acquire a clear sense, becoming favourableopportunities to meet me and to understand human history starting from the end: wheneverything will be recapitulated in me! (cfr. Eph 1:10).

In the 75th year of the life of your Congregation, you need to plunge ever more intothe tenderness and mercy of my Father together with your Sisters, to rediscover theApostolic momentum and announce, even in today's world, my love that saves. Do notforget what Blessed Alberione said talking about the mission of your institute: “Your familyhas been desired since 1908, when I was assigned to pastoral ministry: it was seen thenthe necessity that the pastor be accompanied by Sisters in his ministry, especially whenthe clergy was scarce. The Sister integrates the pastoral work and helps to bring about thepossibility of redemption: the Good Shepherd and the Divine Shepherdess, the parish

priest and the Sister. The parish priest and the Sisters have a single ministry: to savesouls”1.

Have courage to "be" in the company of brothers and sisters of this time toevangelize. Remain anchored to the Word that I offer you every day, to be a pointreference for those who want to get out of the superficial, the trivial, from the showy; forthose who want to enter into the depth of life and read it with the only possible alphabet, toread it in me, in my death and resurrection.

Only this way will you be able to experience that every suffering, whether big orsmall, lived in me, becomes a force of life that is explosive. Fear not your littleness! Therehas to be a death for this explosion of life to occur, otherwise you cannot bear fruit, mylittle seed! Place full trust in me. You are my Pastorella and you know how much I valueyour evangelical witness. You can rely on the Holy Spirit who dwells in you to help othersto desire to meet me, to live in fullness the life and aspire for paradise. Often FatherAlberione would point out to members of the Pauline Family the true goal of life: "All withdifferent routes, converging to paradise. Keep on! Paradise! This is the supreme aim andthat must be the guiding thread that guides us all on the right path! Everyone! Up there inheaven, where the communities congregate and the parishes gather” 2.

… In addition, remember that prayer exerts a powerful force on my Father's heartand mine. It is thanks to it, united with the daily offering, that human history will always beevermore inundated by Love, even when miseries, sufferings and indifference seem toaffirm that God has nothing more to say to humanity, rather that God has forgotten hissons and daughters. No, the Father and I, we have not forgotten you. In fact, we trust inyour collaboration, so that no one is excluded from heaven, from the eternal communion!

Live my compassion and learn to give your life as a good Pastorella. The Fatherhas created you for this! I have called you for this! And the Spirit sustains you so that youmay actualize this beautiful vocation!».

Dearest Sister, “The Lord is pleased to associate you to himself in the work ofredemption of souls,”3, let us then be filled of the event of the Resurrection. If we arewomen marked by Easter, those who will meet us will perceive it and will feel growingwithin themselves a new hope, will find again the desire to seek the God of life: the life thatnever sets!

With affection and in communion, wishes for a Holy Easter of Resurrection.

From the Sisters of the General GovernmentTime flies! From this we can draw an invitation to accept every moment with gratitude and

remain open to welcome what the spirit wishes to communicate to us.First of all we want to tell you that the good outcome of Sr. Marta’s health has filled us with

thanksgiving to the Good Shepherd and to all of you for your constant remembrance in prayer.As usual, this year in early January, we met as General Governments of the Pauline Family.

It was a time of sharing the progress made and together, reflect on some issues of commonconcern. Among the themes tabled, what we appreciated very much was the sharing by Sr.Antonieta Bruscato, Superior General of the Daughters of St. Paul, who attended the Synod ofBishops on the New Evangelization. It had been for her a strong experience of the universalChurch and wanted to share something of it with us. What stood out was the encouragement forthe Pauline Family, because all the speeches, the Propositions, the Final message and the wordsof the Pope, the Pauline spirituality – so to speak- was confirmed in its essential elements: TheCentrality of Christ - The Word of God – The on-going personal evangelization and conversion withtrust in the Lord, a trust that is expressed in the prayer of the Pact.

During the month of January, we also dedicated time to prepare for the canonical visitations.Beginning with the mandate of 8th General Chapter and the six year program, having in mind theYear of Faith proclaimed by Pope Benedict XVI and the other ecclesial solicitations, we reflectedand prayed together to single out the biblical icon that could accompany us in this journey. Theexperience led us to touch the tenderness that Jesus the Good Shepherd has for each person,capable of profound acceptance, attention and forgiveness. We felt invited to a conversion ofmentality, looking both at ourselves and others.

During this time, we have been able to complete and present to the general governments ofthe Pauline Family, the Directory of the Pauline Cooperators, Friends of Jesus Good Shepherd(FJGS) and sent a copy to the government of each circumscription of the Congregation. Thisdocument has been the fruit of the work of the Sisters and some FJGS, who have experiences ofjourneying and accompanying our Cooperators.

In February while Sr. Marta and Sr. Inacia were on canonical visitation to the Sisters of theDelegation of Argentina- Bolivia, I visited the Sisters at Negrar, Sr Cesarina, the Sisters of Albanoand Sr Marisa, the Sisters of Rome-Traversari. The opportunity to have first-hand experience withcommunities who are accompanying our elderly, sick Sisters and the community whichaccompanies the students of the Course on the Charism of the Pauline Family, has been for eachof us an opportunity to deepen our knowledge and appreciation of the precious service of attentivecare our Sisters offer to those who need accompanying and lots of understanding and tenderness.We have been edified by the manner in which the Sisters live their third age and illness, and dayafter day offer to the Lord their cross, as participation in the mission of each Pastorella Sister.

For our updating, last 5 March, we invited Don Giuseppe Forlai, a diocesan priest andmember of the Institute of Jesus the Priest. He gave an actual analysis on the consecrated life,which we share two aspects which we consider important: The authority in the consecrated life is born as an authority in the Spirit. Since there are

generations of “orphaned brothers and sisters” there is a particular need for mediation (spiritualfatherhood / motherhood).

In the history of Consecrated life are there successful reforms? According to Don Forlai, yes.The reform of St. Teresa of Avila which reinterprets theology of the vows and applies theprimacy of grace is one of them.

Unite with the whole Church, in this historical moment, we have thanked the Lord for thePetrine Ministry carried out by Benedict XVI and his witness of life Now as Church, we are livingthe first steps with the newly elected Pope Francis; from him we welcome the invitation he made tothe journalists to hold together Truth, Goodness and Beauty.

From the group of government of the Chile - Peru Delegation

“For it is not ourselves that we are preaching,but Christ Jesus as the Lord;

and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake”.2Cor 4:5)

A year ago we began our service of accompanying this Delegation that is so dear to us andso loved by us because we have seen it grow and are witnesses of the many blessings bestowedon us by Jesus Good Shepherd.

We are three Peruvian Sisters, our average age is forty and we are among the firstgenerations of sisters formed by our Italian missionaries.

When we were asked to take on this service to the Congregation, we accepted with the firmconviction of wanting to give freely what we have freely received. We felt unusual taking on the roleof accompanying the Sisters who have been our formators, superiors and senior Sisters from whowe have learned all that we know. But it is thanks to their goodness and closeness that has madeour service an ongoing search for the good of all. We feel honoured to serve these our sisters whoare spending their lives in the land of Peru and Chile. We are grateful to them and value everycontribution they make daily of the gift of themselves and of the compassion which we receiveevery day, and we commit ourselves to share and welcome the dreams and desires of our youngSisters, so that our life as Pastorelle can be ever more human, missionary and compassionate.

The three of us live in the Central house of the Delegation in Mangomarca, Lima, Peru. Thishelps us in our ongoing dialogue and enhances the affection, appreciation and trust we have forone another in our daily life. We are a good group and mutually support each other.

At the beginning of our mandate, we found the visit from Sr. Marta Finotelli, Superior Generaland sr. Marisa Loser, General Councilor, very helpful. We were encouraged to serve with theheart of the Shepherd and found our days together very fraternal, full of communion and opendialogue in reflecting on the Delegation and discerning the best ways for the Delegation to growand be strengthened.

Our Council meetings are held in a spirit of fraternity, sharing of life, prayer, formation andrelaxation. This allows us to view the life of the Delegation and of each community with trust andhope, convinced that it is God who carries out God’s work.

In this Year of Faith, our wish is to cooperate and together with the Sisters to takecompassion as a lifestyle, so that our ministry of pastoral care may be carried out according to theheart of the good Shepherd, with compassionate solidarity to reach out to people wounded alongthe journey of life, and be for them, in the words of our Founder: “the sisters, mothers, teachers,the consolers in every sorrow, a continuous presence of light and kindness.”

We thank everyone for the trust [placed] in our humble service and for the prayerful supportand affection for us. We continue to walk in faith and hope so that our religious life as PastorelleSisters can become ever more beautiful and human.

The Superior General, Sr. Marta Finotelli, with the consent of the Council, during themonths of December 2012- January- March 2013, has made the following decisions:

Has evaluated the journey of 2012 and elaborated the Programmation 2013,accompanied by prayer and sharing. The Programmation was sent to all thecircumscriptions.

Has approved the program in preparation to the final profession of the juniors of theKorean Delegation She nominated Sr. Cristina Lee Jae Kyung Mistress of Novices,Sr. Bernardetta Kim Jeong Ja Mistress of the Aspirants and Postulants and hasentrusted to Sr. Silvia Chae Kum Heui the responsibility for vocation promotion. Shehas also approved the formative program for the Postulancy of the CI-PE Delegationand that of the Juniorate of the Delegation CO-VE-ME.

Had an encounter, on 21 January, through Skype connection, along with Sr. MarisaLoser, Councillor for Formation, with the Sisters of the Government of the DelegationCO-VE-ME, who had gathered in Bogota.

Has finished the elaboration of the Directory of the Pauline Cooperators “Friends ofJesus Good Shepherd”, integrating some observations coming from the Governmentsof Circumscriptions. The Directory was then sent to all Superiors of Circumscriptions.

Has continued the reflection and the study in the preparation of the Canonical visit for2013. Has completed the canonical visit to the ARG-BO Delegation, from 10 - 28February accompanied by Sr. Inácia dos Santo. With her council, reflected on theoutcome of the Canonical Visit carried out in the ARG-BO Delegation.

Has started the process of consultation in view of the nomination of the new Provincialgovernment ICN-MZ.and has appointed sr Angiolina Rossini, as Provincial Superiorof ICS-MZ for the quadrennium 2013-2017.

Has considered the Third Lectio Divina Leaflet for Lent 2013, which was sent to all thecommunities in order to journey together as a Congregation toward Easter.

Has met from 8- 10 March, with the Sisters of the ECIR (Central Equipe ofinformation/reflection), to develop some resources for the Congregational studyprogram and the celebration of the 75th Anniversary of Foundation.

Has reflected on the initiatives to commemorate the Centenary of the Pauline Family,planned throughout the year 2014.

Has asked for the availability of sr Alicia Fogliatti, of the CI-PE Delegation, which wasaccepted, for the Mission in the diocese of Matanzas in Cuba, .

Has met, on 11 March, the students of the Course of Formation on the Charism of thePauline Family.

BrasileLa Campagna della fraternità 2013 della Chiesa brasiliana ha scelto come priorità la

Gioventù e la preparazione alla Giornata Mondiale della Gioventù che si svolgerà a luglio 2013in Rio de Janeiro.Il tema è: Fraternità e gioventù: Eccomi, inviami!

Nel proporre il tema dei giovani per la Campagna della fraternità, la Chiesa vuoleriflettere e pregare con loro, riproporre il Vangelo come unico senso di vita, e nello stessotempo come missione. Questa campagna è anche un invito alla conversione e a lasciarsiincontrare da Cristo, Via, Verità e Vita (cfr Gv 14, 6).

Accogliere i giovani in un contesto di cambiamento di epoca chiede di favorire camminiperché essi possano essere protagonisti nella sequela di Gesù Cristo, nella vita ecclesiale enella costruzione di una vita vissuta nella giustizia e nella pace.Tre sono gli aspetti da sottolineare:1. incoraggiare i giovani ad un incontro personale con Gesù Cristo, al fine di contribuire alla

loro vocazione di discepoli e missionari per preparare il proprio progetto personale di vita;2. permettere ai giovani di partecipare attivamente alla comunità ecclesiale, che è sostegno

nel cammino, in modo che possano dare il loro contributo con i loro doni e talenti;3. sensibilizzare i giovani ad essere agenti di cambiamento nella società, protagonisti della

Cinthia Bustamante (CO-VE-ME) sono le quattro giovani del noviziato unico di lingua spagnolache nel mese di febbraio 2013 hanno fatto la loro prima professione religiosa.Riceviamo le loro testimonianze:

“Chiedo al Signore Gesù la grazia di servirlo con gioia e semplicità nel quotidiano e aMaria, Madre del Buon Pastore, di imitarla nella sua consegna e perseveranza nella fedeltàalla sequela di Colui che mi ha chiamata ad essere Pastorella. Lui aspetta la mia rispostasemplice.

È stata la grazia del Buon Pastore che mi ha donato fortezza per continuare a rispondereogni giorno e per farlo visibile oggi con la mia vita donata a Lui.

Sono consapevole di essere chiamata e scelta da Dio, per servire il suo popolo eaccompagnarlo nel cammino della fede. Per questo, Lui m’invita a essere riflesso dell’amore diDio verso i miei fratelli, in fedeltà alla vocazione di Pastorella.

Mi affido alla preghiera delle mie sorelle di Congregazione e di tutti, perché il Signore midoni la grazia di essere fedele fino alla fine”.

A noi il compito di accompagnarle e sostenerle nel loro cammino verso la professioneperpetua con la preghiera e con la testimonianza di vita.

Italia Centro Sud – Albania

“La tua umiltà ti ha reso più grande. Grazie papa Benedetto”Il 28 febbraio, a Castelgandolfo, in mezzo alla folla che riempiva piazza della Libertà

c’erano alcune Pastorelle di Albano-casa madre per dare il benvenuto e dire grazie a PapaBenedetto, anche a nome di tutte le Pastorelle.

Tra gli striscioni, presenti nella piazza, ne emergeva uno, da loro portato, con la scritta:“La tua umiltà ti ha reso più grande. Grazie Papa Benedetto”. Questa espressione, nataspontaneamente dal cuore, esprime molto bene i pensieri e i sentimenti che abitano le mentied i cuori di molte persone. Infatti, questa frase è stata notata da molti giornalisti e riportatanella abbondante stampa, dedicata a questo avvenimento, inatteso ma anche apprezzato.

Le sorelle condividendo l’esperienza vissuta hanno sottolineato come sia stata unica emolto bella. La gioia è stata molto grande, si sono sentite privilegiate di poter partecipare aquesto momento storico e di poter accogliere l’ultimo messaggio da Papa: “Sonosemplicemente un pellegrino che comincia l’ultima tappa del suo pellegrinaggio su questaterra, ma vorrei ancora col mio cuore, col mio amore, con la mia preghiera, con la miariflessione, lavorare per il bene della Chiesa e per il bene comune dell’umanità”.

Filippine-Australia-Saipan

La comunità di Digos (aperta ad experimentum)

Avere una comunità nel sud delle Filippine è stato il sogno di alcune sorelle,specialmente di quelle provenienti da Visayas e Mindanao. Questo sogno è diventato unarealtà quando è giunto l'invito del vescovo della diocesi di Digos, Rev. Guillermo V. Afable,D.D..

Il 28 maggio 2012 tre sorelle: sr Teresita A. Sosa, superiora locale, sr Victoria G.Sanchez e sr Josefina G. Labata, sono arrivate nella città di Digos, Davao e attualmente sononella parrocchia della Cattedrale di Maria Mediatrice di tutte le Grazie. Occupano il vecchioconvento dei padri del PIME (Pontificio Istituto Missioni Estere), e la nuova Cattedrale è difronte alla loro casa. Essendo nuove, hanno sperimentato un inizio umile ma gradevole. Sonorimaste piene di stupore per la bellezza del paesaggio e per la semplicità delle persone, chesono di tradizione religiosa. Molti parrocchiani sono attivi e frequentano regolarmente lamessa quotidiana.

CUBA: Comunità dipendente dal Governo Generale

Laboratorio sull’Inculturazione… Camminando con il Vicariato e la ParrocchiaNei giorni 4-8 febbraio, abbiamo partecipato ad un Laboratorio sull’Inculturazione, per i

religiosi che sono presenti in Cuba da due anni. È stato un tempo di scambio delle esperienzee di fraternità, molto utile per il nostro inserimento in Cuba. Eravamo cinquanta religiosi ereligiose di ventidue nazionalità e un sacerdote diocesano.

Questo incontro viene organizzato dalla Conferenza Cubana dei Religiosi e Religiose(CONCUR) ogni due anni per accompagnare i nuovi missionari nel processo di adattamento alnostro paese, per capire meglio la realtà e la cultura, e anche per conoscere la vita e l’azioneevangelizzatrice della Chiesa. Ringraziamo la CONCUR per questo evento molto arricchenteper la nostra presenza come Congregazione in Cuba.

Il 20 febbraio abbiamo anche partecipato al primo incontro del Vicariato in Cantel. Eranopresenti il nostro vescovo, Mons. Manuel Céspedes e il Vicario don Rolando, insieme areligiose e sacerdoti che realizzano la cura pastorale nel Vicariato Sant’Antonio Maria Claret.Abbiamo vissuto un momento di riflessione e illuminazione sul tema: “La partecipazione ecomunione nella vita della Chiesa alla luce del Documento di Aparecida”. È seguita poi laprogrammazione.

Anche, come comunità parrocchiale, stiamo realizzando pellegrinaggi con le comunitàdelle zone pastorali di San Miguel de los Baños e del Cristo de Bacán. Si prega insieme con laVia Crucis e la celebrazione dell’Eucaristia. L’accento è posto sulla famiglia nella suavocazione di Chiesa domestica. In seguito realizzeremo ritiri spirituali per favorire uno spaziodi riflessione e preghiera in preparazione alla Pasqua.

Rio nell'Elba is a small town of just over a thousand people, perched on the hills at theextreme northside of the Island, but it is one of the most ancient municipalities of the Island,protagonist or witness over the centuries of all the historical events of the Island. An ancienthistory linked to mineral resources which date back to the Eneolithic era, when in the presentmunicipality of Rio nell'Elba developed a company of miners and metallurgists traders whosetraces are still visible in one of the most important necropolis of Italy located in San Giuseppe.Many of these priceless artifacts are on display in the archaeological local museum. In theMiddle Ages and the Renaissance, Rio nell'Elba enjoyed a particularly high repute mainlybecause of its iron mines.

The coastlines of this part of Elba retain the wildest and most fascinating features of theisland. The beaches are small environmental treasures sunken in steep cliffs, out of reach,which have preserved their original beauty; suggestive and pristine beaches, with wallsoverlooking the sea and small coves accessible only by sea. Not far from the heart of thehistorical center is the Terrazza del Barcocaio, a place of exceptional views: on the left MonteGiove, on whose top can still be seen the remains of the castle, and on the right, a glimpse ofthe horizon that opens onto the sea.

At the beginning of the twentieth century still many Islanders work in the iron mines andthis allows a minimum of support for local families and gives them a modest but decentcondition.

Docilia, the second child of John and Adelaide Giannelli, was born on 21 March 1914 andbaptised on 23 March in the parish of St. James the Apostle and Quirico Martyr, a parish with

a beautiful church dating back to the fourteenth century and built during the Pisan rule of theIsland. Restored and remodeled in the eighteenth century it displays its medieval origin in itsthree naves. The interior is baroque. It is home to the eighteenth-century painting depicting theMystical Marriage of Saint Catherine that is attributed to Giovanni of San Giovanni, and a widecollection of sacred silver. Giovanni and Adelaide were peaceful and hardworking people.They shared in the life of the parish as good Christians but were not spared from the trials oflife. They had two children: Romelia and Docilia, but sadly the mother died young when thechildren were still small. Docilia was only four years old and subsequently their maternalgrandmother took care of them.

However, Romelia also died young leaving Docilia the only survivor of the family with herfather who after a period of mourning, felt the need to form a new family and married a youngwidow with two children: Giuseppino and Alba. They had a daughter of their own who theynamed Romelia, after the young sister who had not long died.

Giovanni was a modest but skilled cobbler, well known and respected in the village. Hissecond wife ran a resale salt and tobacco shop, as it was known at the time, and contributedto the upkeep of the family as best she could. It was a good Christian family, religious, humbleand decent.

Docilia was blonde and had a beautiful bright face. She grew up participating in parish lifeand was a member of the Catholic Action movement. There she manifested her ability to carefor those smaller than herself. Since her parents worked away from home, Docilia used to takecare of the house, do the shopping and add to the good harmony of the family.

She received the sacrament of Confirmation on July 17, 1920 from the bishop of Livorno,Sabatino Giani, in the same beautiful parish Church. "Since her childhood she was wellbehaved and exemplary in her conduct”, wrote the parish priest, Fr Giuseppe Benettini, a fewyears later, when writing the certificate of good behaviour required by the Congregation ofyoung women who were interested to join.

In fact, young Docilia, fascinated by the style of life of the Pastorelle Sisters, who in May1943 had opened a community in Rio Elba, used to often visit the Sisters, join them in prayerand help them in various pastoral activities. After assisting her family for a long time, especiallyduring the difficult years of World War II, Docilia felt that she could no longer postpone herresponse to Jesus, the Good Shepherd, who was calling her and drawing her to himself withspecial love. And so on March 23, 1948, at the age of 34, she entered the Congregation atGenzano (RM). Her mature age can be seen as an exception made at that time, and a specialdispensation was required and given with total confidence because of her good qualities andtransparent spirit. In her first year of formation, she proved herself so and the superiorsconfidently sent her as “suorina” to Isola d’Elba, to help the Sisters in the community ofMarciana Alta, which was opened in September 1945.

On 14 August 1950, eve of the solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Maryand heart of the Holy Year of Redemption, Docilia entered the novitiate at San Pietro dalleAcque, a house close to Massa Martana (PG) which had been opened in June 1948 andconsidered up to 1953 as the central house of the Institute. It was a big building but veryneglected, possibly a former convent, attached to a church also in a state of neglect. ThePastorelle Sisters dedicated themselves with great love to its restoration, reviving the ancientsite for a few years. Our Founder makes mention of this zeal for restoration [rebuilding] thattypifies the Pastorelle Sisters in one of his sermons. He said: "The Pastorelle Sisters will oftengo to parishes and churches that have been abandoned, just like S. Pietro di Massa Martana,but after some time, by virtue of their zeal, these churches are reordered, made less unworthyof hosting Jesus who always wants to remain among us. He is pleased to be with thePastorelle sisters; he blesses them, helps them and consoles them"1.

We can imagine Docilia as a novice, mature and responsible, devoting herself with greatgenerosity to the decor of the Church and the house, and certainly being an example for theyounger novices. In the report of the mistress of novices, who recommended Docilia for

admission to the first Religious Profession, she described her as being rather shy butunderstanding and motherly. During the novitiate she had proved herself to be upright, havinga good religious spirit and prayerful. She had a great love for poverty and detachment from allthings; she had a great capacity for reasoning and reflecting and a great love for the Institute.The novice mistress concluded that Docilia had done her novitiate well and in the constantpractice of virtues. A very positive profile that favoured her admission to the first ReligiousProfession without a shadow of a doubt.

On August 15, 1951 Docilia made her first Religious Profession at Genzano, taking thename of Sr Adelaide, in memory of her mother who from heaven would have been so pleasedwith her little Docilia becoming a good sister. To receive her vows, and the vows of five othernovices, was the Founder himself, after a course of Spiritual Exercises. Undoubtedly, the soulof Sr Adelaide was pervaded with an intimate and profound joy because she had consecratedall of herself to Jesus Good Shepherd and to his people, and thus fulfilling her great dream oflove. After a year of pastoral ministry in Solara (MO), Sr Adelaide returned to San Pietro alleAcque, where through her maternal presence, she edified many sisters and many young onesin formation.

Questi due articoli mettono in evidenza aspetti concreti della nostra scelta di vita in vistadel ministero pastorale per questo vogliamo confrontarci con quanto, per grazia di Dio,siamo riuscite ad incarnare e ci lasciamo illuminare dal magistero della Chiesa attraverso ilnumero 34 della Lettera Enciclica Caritas in Veritate di Benedetto XVI:

«34. […] Perché dono ricevuto da tutti, la carità nella verità è unaforza che costituisce la comunità, unifica gli uomini secondo modalitàin cui non ci sono barriere né confini. La comunità degli uomini puòessere costituita da noi stessi, ma non potrà mai con le sole sueforze essere una comunità pienamente fraterna né essere spintaoltre ogni confine, ossia diventare una comunità veramenteuniversale: l'unità del genere umano, una comunione fraterna oltreogni divisione, nasce dalla con-vocazione della parola di Dio-Amore.Nell'affrontare questa decisiva questione, dobbiamo precisare, da unlato, che la logica del dono non esclude la giustizia e non sigiustappone ad essa in un secondo momento e dall'esterno e,dall'altro, che lo sviluppo economico, sociale e politico ha bisogno, sevuole essere autenticamente umano, di fare spazio al principio digratuità come espressione di fraternità».

E ancora per arricchire il confronto personale, comunitario ma anche apostolico,attingiamo ad alcune espressioni tratte dall’Omelia dell’allora Card. Bergoglio, pronunciataai Religiosi Francescani nel luglio del 2012 in occasione del loro 400° Anniversario dipresenza nell’Argentina:

«Voi oggi rinnovate i voti, ognuno forse ricorderà quando ha fatto iprimi voti, i sogni che aveva, non so, ognuno sa cosa aveva nelcuore in quel giorno. Sono passati gli anni e i colpi, e ci sono lividi epossono esserci mille cose, mille cose che a tutti ci accadono.Io vi suggerisco come fratello, “lasciatevi sorprendere”, quandorinnovate i voti, lasciatevi sorprendere per la novità, allora non direte“ho tanti anni di professione…”, ma direte “guarda come mi sonostagionato (come il buon vino) negli anni, tra il peccato e la grazia,tra l’incredulità e la fede, tra l’egoismo e il servizio, tra il controllo e lasorpresa. Vi desidero questo fratelli, a voi, auguratelo per me».

Credo che queste parole, abbiano qualcosa da dire a noi Pastorelle che stiamovivendo il nostro 75° di Fondazione. Forse possono esserci di aiuto per sintetizzare ilcammino di fede che la nostra Superiora generale, sr. Marta, ci ha invitato a rivisitare econdividere in questo anno di Grazia per l’intera Congregazione.

Vi auguro una Santa Pasqua, ricca della Luce e Gioia del Risorto !

on the perspective proposed for this third year: “Onward!” so as to be, as a Family, a propheticpresence in the world of communications. We spent these days allowing ourselves to bequestioned by the signs and provocations offered us by the contemporary world.(…)

We felt once again the urgent need to allow ourselves to be evangelized before attempting toevangelize, and to offer others the testimony of a fully-realized and fully-humanizing life–a life thatis generated by faith and by means of which we strive to give others a reason for our hope (1 Pt.3:15). In this context, the world of communications, especially the Internet, is for us a privilegedplace of testimony, while for Web users it is an opportunity to come in contact with a Christiancommunity.(…)

abituale riconoscimento dei nostri peccati, dei difetti, insufficienze.Distinguere ciò che è da Dio nella nostra vocazione, da quello che è nostro” (AD, 158).Alla fine del 1953, riassumendo la storia delle sue fondazioni fino a quella data, il Primo

Maestro ci parla di una duplice storia che si è intrecciata nella sua vita: “la storia delle DivineMisericordie e la storia umiliante delle incorrispondenze all’eccesso della divina carità” (AD 1).Conoscendo i nostri peccati personali, comunitari, di Congregazione e di Famiglia Paolina, allavigilia di cento anni di storia, a maggior ragione possiamo anche noi affermare di aver vissuto evivere ogni giorno una duplice storia intrecciata: le abbondanti ricchezze della Provvidenzaverso di noi e le nostre povertà e miserie nel corrispondere a tanta generosità divina.»

AFRICAL’Università Cattolica di Nairobi ha offerto un programma di approfondimento per aiutare le

teologhe africane, di diversi Istituti religiosi, nelle loro difficoltà e speranze. Negli ultimi anni ungruppo di suore africane hanno potuto usufruire di borse di studio teologico in diversi paesi. Sisono incontrate a Nairobi per una conferenza su questioni etiche. Queste teologhe vengono dadiverse parti del continente Africano: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, Camerun, Zimbabwe edalla Repubblica Democratica del Congo. Nel loro incontro sono emerse indicazioni che possonodare un valido contributo di riflessione sulla questione della donna nella società e nella Chiesaafricana.

AMERICALa Chiesa pronta a collaborare nel processo di pace, conclusa l'Assemblea dei Vescovi

Si è conclusa la XCIV Assemblea Plenaria dell’Episcopato Colombiano nella speranza diun ritorno della pace nel paese. L'Assemblea Plenaria dei Vescovi si è svolta a Bogotà dal 4 all'8febbraio. I vescovi si sono dedicati in particolar modo allo studio e alla riflessione, nel contestodell'Anno della Fede, sull'importanza della testimonianza cristiana nella società. Giovedì scorso, ivescovi hanno ricevuto la visita del presidente della Repubblica, il dottore Juan Manuel SantosCalderón, che ha espresso la sua gioia per l'ingresso del cardinale Rubén Salazar Gómez alCollegio Cardinalizio e ha manifestato la sua soddisfazione per l'annuncio fatto da Benedetto XVIdella data per la canonizzazione della Beata colombiana Laura Montoya nel Concistoro ordinario. Ilpresidente ha condiviso con i vescovi alcuni criteri sul processo di pace e le questioni relative allosviluppo del paese. Da parte dei vescovi, Il Presidente della Conferenza Episcopale dellaColombia, il cardinale Rubén Salazar Gómez, ha ricordato alla massima autorità del Paese, lavolontà della Chiesa di collaborare nel processo di pace e in "tutto ciò che conduce alla pace nelpaese"(CE).

ASIAAnno della fede: il catechismo per bambini approda on-line

La novità tecnologica applicata all’evangelizzazione: nell’Anno della Fede, in cui lacatechesi è uno dei capisaldi del rinnovato impegno delle chiese locali, in Pakistan le scuoledomenicali di catechismo per bambini sono sbarcate on-line. Nell’arcidiocesi di Karachi, grazieall’impegno del Direttore nazionale della Catechesi, p. Saleh Diego, è stato lanciato un nuovosito web (http://cssmk.org) che permette di utilizzare contenuti visivi e multimediali nellacatechesi ai bambini. Tali contenuti, curati dall'ufficio catechistico nazionale, sono accessibilion-line e dunque a disposizione di tutte le parrocchie, nella diocesi di Karachi ma anche nellealtre diocesi del Pakistan.

Come riferito a Fides, p. Diego ha presentato l’innovazione a tutti i catechisti e agliinsegnanti spiegando che “era necessario rispondere alle sfide della comunicazione, inquest’Anno della Fede, secondo le indizioni del Papa: i mass-media e le nuove tecnologieaiutano a coprire le distanze e ci consentono di aprire un nuovo capitolo per evangelizzare ibambini, con l’ausilio di Internet”. Fino a ieri gli strumenti didattici usati nelle catechesi eranoteatro, arte, canto, giochi: oggi a questi mezzi si aggiungono le nuove tecnologie audiovisive,“per adeguarci ai tempi”. Fra l’altro, il 70% degli insegnanti e dei catechisti sono giovani estudenti, nota il Direttore. Sarà, dunque, facile introdurre la catechesi con le nuove tecnologie.P. Diego rimarca a Fides l’impegno volontario dei giovani cristiani nel servizio di catechesi abambini e ragazzi: solo nell'arcidiocesi di Karachi, vi sono 716 insegnanti volontari, a beneficiodi oltre 11.000 bambini iscritti in 125 scuole domenicali. Gli insegnanti vengono preparatitramite un percorso di formazione psicologica e didattica.

I nuovi movimenti cristiani in Europa: sfide o opportunità?Negli ultimi 100 anni l’Europa ha subito profondi cambiamenti nella sua composizione in

termini sia religiosi sia demografici. E sebbene cattolici e ortodossi rappresentino oggi il 75% deicristiani in Europa, i cosiddetti “cristiani indipendenti marginali” (Indipendent Marginal Christians)sono in rapida crescita. “Fede e religiosità in un’Europa che cambia”. Di questo hanno parlatonell’incontro svolto il 6 febbraio 2013 a Varsavia. (…)

Al centro della Conferenza, i cambiamenti della situazione religiosa contemporaneadell’Europa e della sua relazione con Dio. Cambiamenti particolarmente evidenti considerandol’aumento del numero di movimenti evangelici e pentecostali nel nostro continente. Nei lorointerventi, infatti, il Cardinale Angelo Bagnasco, Arcivescovo di Genova e Vice-presidente CCEE,insieme al Metropolita Joseph del Patriarcato ortodosso di Romania, si sono soffermati propriosull’esperienza che le Chiese tradizionali vivono in relazione alla presenza dei “nuovi movimenti”.Ad essi si sono aggiunte le riflessioni dell’Arcivescovo di Southwark, Mons. Kevin McDonald, edella Pastora Claire Sixt-Gateuille, della Chiesa riformata di Francia, che hanno parlato delle sfidepastorali emergenti.(...)

Il Comitato Congiunto della Conferenza delle Chiese Europee (KEK) istituito nel 1972, èl’istanza più elevata di dialogo con il Consiglio delle Conferenze Episcopali Europee. Fondato nel1959 esso attualmente riunisce 120 chiese protestanti, anglicane, ortodosse e cattoliche di tutto ilcontinente, oltre a 40 organizzazioni cristiane. Il Consiglio delle Conferenze Episcopali d'Europa èstato istituito, invece, nel 1971 e comprende oggi 33 episcopati nazionali, rappresentati dairispettivi presidenti, insieme all'arcivescovo di Lussemburgo, Monaco e Cipro dei Maroniti e alvescovo ortodosso greco di Chisinau.

OCEANIAMusulmani in Papua: la nuova frontiera dell’islam in OceaniaLa Papua Nuova Guinea è la nuova frontiera per l’espansione dell’islam in Oceania: secondoquanto riferito a Fides dalla Chiesa locale, l’islam è arrivato in Papua Nuova Guinea circa 35 annifa, quando è stata aperta una moschea nei pressi di Kimbe, nel West New Britain. Come spiega aFides il Verbita p. Franco Zocca SVD, missionario a Goroka e studioso dell’Islam, i musulmani delterritorio si rifanno a un movimento riformista islamico fondato in India nel tardo XIX secolo dinome “Ahmadi”. L’islam è stato registrato ufficialmente nello stato nel 1983, con il riconoscimentodella “Società islamica di Papua Nuova Guinea” e, da quel momento in poi, musulmani giuntidall’esterno hanno iniziato il “reclutamento” a livello locale, con una crescita esponenziale. Nel1986 i musulmani della Papua erano quattro, nel 1990 erano cresciuti fino a 440 e nel 2000, il loronumero era salito a 756, sparsi in diverse province della nazione. Oggi, secondo il “Centroislamico” a Port Moresby, la popolazione locale musulmana conta circa 4.000 persone. (…).

CULTURE AND ITS MEANINGS (1)

In culture is to be found the deep meanings of life which are shared in a group, in acommunity, in a nation; they are the meanings that shape the existence of the person and thesocial membership leading a person to his/her true humanity. Culture tends to know and sharewhat is truly worthy of the human person, thus the religious dimension is always present 1. In fact,every culture «is an effort to ponder the mystery of the world and in particular of the human person:it is a way of giving expression to the transcendent dimension of human life. The heart of everyculture is its approach to the greatest of all mysteries: the mystery of God.»2.

Culture consists of the common language, rituals, customs, law, religious research and itsforms of worship, moral beliefs, behaviors, languages (words, images, actions) ... all thosesymbolic resources capable of transmitting the fundamental meanings of life.

Culture is the thinking, feeling, acting, believing which a community cultivates (etymologicallyculture originates from the Latin colĕre, which really means cultivate). Tthe person is immersed in itand in turn, along with others, will contribute to continuously elaborate it, bringing elements oftransformation. Culture is like a fabric that unites people around shared values and meanings, itcreates and receives relationships; forms that habitat that puts into circulation, throughcommunication, ways of thinking and behaving and affect judgement.

Changes are typical of culture since culture is formed by men and women; sometimes thesechanges bring about deep cuts and rifts; but put in motion the creative capacity of re-expressing in

a new and original mode the link between what is transmitted (traditio) and what is received(redditio).

This creativity is played in the form of reception, if it is characterized by gratitude and loyalty,by dynamism and fecundity. The generational passages could show it in a significant manner.

The meaning of culture then is wider than that limited form of associating it to the knowledgeand the accumulated information through studies: the ‘scholarly’ culture. It is also beyondconsidering it as a set of especially intellectuals’ accomplishments, in works of art, in literature, inreligious and philosophical thought that reveals the distinctiveness of a people: 'cultures', manyand different, old and new.

The anthropological matrix highlights culture as lived, as the space in which each personthinks and acts, believes and chooses, making one’s own ideas, rules, customs that are not alwaysaccompanied by critical awareness and objectivity. Culture is not only what we say or think but thestarting point from which we think or say something, from which we re-echo stories and modes offamily, social and ecclesial, formation patterns. It Involves different ways of perceiving reality, toexperience feelings and form ideas, to develop meanings and to verbalise them.

Today, culture is defined as pertaining to media, to information technology and globalized ...the terms faith, God, Christianity seems to be checked and put aside or that these terms do notneed cultural mediations. In reality in today's world, humanism and technology confront each otheras borders on which the sense of culture registers very strong and dramatic changes. But even inthis profile of culture it is worth noting that: «The sign of nobility of a culture is its openness, itsability to give and receive which allows it to be purified and become more compliant with truth andthe human person»3.

In their nature, culture and faith, Christian life and culture are not relationship of alienation ordependence or option. Just look at the acculturating capacity of the evangelists, but also of theFathers and of the Church's tradition. «A faith that does not become culture is a faith not fullyembraced, not entirely thought through, not faithfully lived»4. And even before this, it is enough toconsider the nature of Revelation: “If the cultures of biblical history were able to be the vehicle ofGod's Word, it is because in them, one encounters something very positive, which is already apresence in seed of the Divine Logos»5.

Today, in many parts of the world, Christian faith does not have the basic cultural horizonabout God, about Jesus Christ, on prayer, on Christian community ... It is a phenomenon called de-inculturation and pervades ever more precisely the experience of Christian faith and the ability tocommunicate its beauty.

Does this not require a reflective reclaiming of the inculturation of the Gospel proclamation,so that every culture, even from different thresholds, can meet the whole edifice of faith and opento the search of those constituent references of the person that cross all cultures and constituteuniversal hope?

The roots of the Christian faith need cultural soil within and with which become capable tounderstand and interpret all things according to the fullness of the mystery of Christ, i.e., think andjudge life like Him, see history like him, love like Him. Here the Gospel is lived culture.

Openness to interculturality calls for the awareness that faith must be reappropriated of thecultural dimension and culture/s is not so without intercepting the desire of God. The CouncilFathers were certain of this: «Faithful to its tradition [the Church] and at the same time consciousof the universality of its mission it can enter into communion with the different forms of cultures;such communion enriches both the Church itself as well as the various cultures».6.

Server:A server is an informative component that provides any type of service through the computernetwork to other computer informative components, called customers. In very simple words theserver then is nothing more than any computer that responds to requests that are made fromother computers. There are various kinds of services that a server can offer: local area network,(home or office); exchange and sharing of data between computers on the web (file server,database server); e- mail management (incoming mail server); contain files in a website (webserver).

Download:Like many other terms used in the computer language, the origin comes from English and it is aword composed of “down” and “load”. Combined, they indicate the action of up-loading/packingsomething . In the ‘dialect” computer language already worldwide and understandable in alllanguages it is used to indicate the action of downloading files from other website/ users/ server. Inpractice whenever we take something from the internet and save on the computer we are carryingout a download.

Upload:With the same root we find the meaning of this other term which is very common: “up” and “load”.Thus the word upload is the action to send data and resources on the internet (pictures,documents, photographs, videos) in a remote storage (generally a server) to be made available toanyone who can have access, in this case by a download.A very practical example to help us understand : If we have an address of any e-mail, it is becausea mail server ( for a fee or free of charge, like hotmail, yahoo, gmail…) has given us the means tomanage it. When we receive, send or forward mails, we are using this server service: if youdownload an e- mail that they sent us, we are doing a download and when we send an e-mail withan attached document it is an upload. Whether we send or receive a file it remains hosted in ourmail- server.
