Place your paper viewfinder onto an interesting textured surface at home. You could choose a table, wallpaper or a floor so long as it has a pattern or texture you can see. Look at the small area you can see through your view finder. Using the first page in your sketchbook, draw a square the same size as your viewfinder and use a pencil to make marks to show me what your chosen texture looks like. You can use dark and light shading to draw your chosen area. 9. Hand in date for homework: . . . . / . . . . / . . . . “The Boyle family” Find 2 examples of pieces of work produced by the BOYLE family. They created large ‘relief’ replicas of the ground in random places and made life like copies. Stick the examples you find in your book and underneath write the title and what it is made from. Describe each piece of work, what textures and colours does it have? What makes it interesting? Does the fact that it has been selected and made again as a piece of work make it different to the original? Is it Art? Try www.boylefamily.co.uk/works 10. Hand in date for homework: . . . . / . . . . / . . . . “My home” Draw your garden or view from a window using the textured drawing techniques from this image: • A4 size and working

in pen • sketch lightly the

basic details in pencil first

• look at the image to see the types of marks you could use.

Use a good a variety of marks including dots, dashes and crosshatching. 11. Hand in date for homework: . . . . / . . . . / . . . . “First Hand Observational Drawing - Outdoor Building” You need to first decide what building would be most useful for you to draw. It is a study of a building and will give you a chance to perfect your drawing and observation skills, while also adding to

your collection of visual research. It is important to consider shape, tone (light and shade) and surface texture. Please do not use a ruler or trace or work from photographs - this would not give you the full opportunity to improve your skills. Otherwise you will be expected to re-do this homework properly. Within your composition include all the tricks we looked at, in generating the impression of depth: Overlapping, large & small sized objects, light and shade, Shadows and Warm & Cool Colours. 12. Hand in date for homework: . . . . / . . . . / . . . . “Visual Research.” Make a decision about the Activity you wish to explore, it needs to involve moving figures; then begin researching it for visuals (images, photo’s, illustrations etc). It is important that the images are stuck into your Sketchbook. Consider all the objects you wish to include in your work and try to gather images that will help you draw and paint them more accurately. These visuals (images, photo’s, illustrations etc) need to be stuck into your Sketchbook, with your annotation written alongside them. Please note: that the term annotation refers to recording your thoughts, you should try to justify why you have selected the image - what does it mean to you; why do you like it; how you may wish to use it within your work; what ideas it gives you. 13. Hand in date for homework: . . . . / . . . “Observational Drawing of your eye.” Using a mirror, A4 paper and Coloured Pencil Crayons, with a full range of tones and as many different colours as you can possibly fit in! Press hard in places as well as softly in others. Try to work on a large scale. Consider shape, light & shade and surface texture. 14. Hand in date for homework: . . . . / . . . . / . . . . “Visually explain how to produce an acetate etching - using a comic strip format.” Produce a step-by-step guide showing how to produce a screen print from the initial design, scratching out and actual printing process. Add colour if you can.
