Being a service-led division, excellent customer care, high quality products & facilities and communication are at the heart of how we operate.

We are an incredibly diverse division, with around 400 staff from all walks of life and with varying talents, something we’re very proud of. We celebrate these talents as often as we can with staff recognition schemes like ‘Employee of the Month’ and our very own ‘Oscars’. We are ambassadors in customer service and are forever thriving to be even better.

I hope you enjoy being a part of this dynamic division.

Accommodation

With around 3,900 bed spaces across London, Imperial has a wide range of accommodation and a knowledgeable and dedicated team of staff to look after all student and guest housing requirements.

The Student Hub team are the first port of call for all student accommodation related enquiries. They look after the room allocation process for our own halls as well as advising on private sector housing. The Reservations team look after bookings for our staff, guest and summer accommodation.

The Residential Services team are responsible for managing the facilities, services, maintenance and safety in our Halls of Residence, which are grouped in two Villages, each with a Village Manager and supporting Deputies, Senior Village Supervisors and Hall Supervisors. Each hall has its own wardening team who are responsible for the wellbeing of all student residents.

During the summer months, many of Imperial’s halls are transformed into bed and breakfast accommodation for tourists, group visitors and conference guests. Often a better value option than hotels, this is a popular choice for many visitors to London. Throughout the year, visitors to Imperial can book guest accommodation on campus as well as a range of carefully selected local hotels through the Reservations team. Staff campus accommodation lettings are also managed by the Reservations team.

The College has recognised a lack of accommodation for postgraduate students and has worked in partnership with two property developers to create two new postgraduate accommodation complexes - Griffon Studios in Battersea and Wood Lane Studios in White City. Both are part of our new and exciting GradPad brand, which seeks to create postgraduate communities attracting students from London-wide institutions.

From student halls of residence to staff and guest accommodation, Imperial’s reputation for its accommodation is fast growing and much envied. This 24/7 service operates 365 days a year.

Student Hub

The Student Hub is the one stop shop for all key information and support that students need for everyday life at Imperial.

All the student support departments are brought together here, so that students can get answers to their most frequent questions in one place. The Hub provides a year-round comprehensive information service run by knowledgeable staff who answer questions about university services available to students.

Opened in 2007, the Student Hub joined the Campus Services family in 2008. Today the Hub team deal with over 40,000 enquiries annually, whether in person, email or face-to-face. The recently introduced online ASK system, which allows students to log enquiries with the HUB online, has hugely increased and improved the reach of the Hub service, particularly to those students on other campuses, making it more accessible and efficient.

One of the team’s main focuses is to support students with their search for accommodation whether this be undergraduate halls of residence or finding a student flat share for continuing students. As part of this service, they organise the annual Private Housing Talk, an advisory talk and supplier exhibition for private accommodation searches. They also organise associated events such as the ‘Find a Flatmate’ and ‘Housing Fair’ events.

From accommodation to tuition fee student queries, the Student Hub team is available face to face, online or on the phone to help answer them.

YOUR FIRST SIX MONTHS TO A YEARAs well as your induction, a half-day College-wide induction, ‘Imperial Insights’ is available for all staff to attend. This provides an overview of the College, a welcome by the Provost and other senior staff and is an opportunity for you to meet new staff from across the College.

All new staff have a 6-month probation period to start with. During this time, you should have mid and final probation reviews at 3 and 6 months. You should also have regular one-to-one meetings with your line manager to discuss how yo7u are progressing and any development needs your line manager has identified.

Once you have been confirmed in post, you should continue to meet with your line manager regularly. You will be appraised by your line manager through a Personal Review and Development Plan (PRDP). The PRDP deadline is December each year, unless otherwise advised by your line manager. To find out more about the PRDP scheme, visit the HR website and you can attend the ‘Let’s talk about work: getting the most from PRDP’ course.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENTAt the heart of every organisation and its success are its people. We are committed to the development of all our people and want to ensure that they’re given the right opportunities to help them grow in their role and beyond. Continuous training and development, progression opportunities and succession planning play a vital role in this. There are a wide range of courses, training programmes and other opportunities which can be utilised within the division and the College.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

IMPERIAL EXPECTATIONS

Good leadership and management are essential for Imperial to continue to meet its strategic objectives, and enable the College to attract and retain talented people so that it maintains its position as a world class university. Imperial Expectations are a set of seven statements which articulate how the College expects its leaders, managers and supervisors to behave. They are used in our processes and procedures, and in our management development provision.

Imperial expects its leader, managers and supervisors to:

Champion a positive approach to change and opportunity Communicate regularly and effectively within and across teams Deliver positive outcomes Work in a planned and managed way Encourage inclusive participation and eliminate discrimination Consider the thoughts and expectations of others Support and develop staff to optimise talent

TRAVEL TO WORK The vast majority of staff and students travel to the College by public transport which is good news for our carbon footprint. Have you considered walking or cycling to work? Not only will it further contribute to a greener London but it will do wonders for your health. With bike parking, showers and changing facilities, interest free bike loans, bike pools and clubs and of course the Barclays Cycle Hire scheme there’s really no excuse!

POWER DOWNAll College-run Windows PCs feature the ‘Sleep’ button. Staff are asked to click the ‘Sleep’ button and switch off their monitors to save power before leaving their computer overnight or for long meetings. Applications can be left running and documents left open, so work can continue as soon as the computer is re-awakened. You are advised to always save your open documents before putting your computer to sleep. To re-awaken your computer, press the power button for a very short time.

Staff wishing to work remotely no longer need to leave their computers on to access College files and applications. College email accounts, network drives, library resources, ICIS and InfoEd can all be accessed remotely without the requirement for your PC to be on.

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLEYou can offer items such as furniture, stationery and unused printer cartridges to other departments or organisations via WARPit (Waste Action Re-use Portal)Desk bins are a thing of the past!

Through the ‘Bin the Bin’ initiative, desk bins have been replaced with recycling points for your usual office disposables (paper & card, confidential waste, cans, tins, plastic bottles, etc.) but also other items like batteries, printer cartridges, shoes and mobile phones to name but a few

Food waste is sent to The CompoPod where it is turned into compost to be used on the College grounds

You can donate your old clothes via the TRAID (Textile Recycling for Aid and International Development) recycling banks on campus. Funds raised by TRAID are spent on projects fighting global poverty and establishing environmental sustainability in some of the world’s poorest communities. Some textiles donated are refashioned and remade as part of the charity in-house fashion label ‘TRAIDremade’.

For details on recycling specific items visit the College’s Waste Directory: www.imperial.ac.uk/facilitiesmanagement/softservices/wasteandrecycling/moreinformation/wastedirectory/southkensington

SUSTAINABILITYAs the leading Science University in the world, the College is highly committed to environmental protection and ecological sustainability. As part of the community, you are expected to support and comply with the College’s sustainability commitment.
