WRITE FOR FUN

We have an author amongst us... Congratulations to Konnor from 5/6 who entered the Write4Fun Short Story and Poetry Competition.

Konnor has received an achievement award and his short story will be published in the Write4Fun book—”Just Keep Writing”

The book will be published in October and our school has ordered a copy for the school library in which we can all read and enjoy. Once we receive it, we will have an author read at assembly and Konnor can sign the book for us.

Writing competitions are a wonderful way to assist our students with writing or to extend our children who show a keen interest in writing. If you would like more information about writing competitions or how to encourage your child with writing, please see Miss Purkiss.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Stewart House Concert

Biannually, the Tweed Community of Small Schools (TCoSS: Burringbar, Carool, Chillingham, Condong, Crabbes Creek, Crystal Creek, Dungay, Duranbah, Fingal Head, Stokers Siding, Tumbulgum, and Tyalgum) come together to perform a concert where ticket proceeds are donated to the very worthy cause, Stewart House.

Stewart House is a school in Sydney that provides a residential schooling program of up to 12 days duration where educational and experiential learning is embedded within a health and wellbeing framework. Students are selected each year and attend the school in lieu of their regular schooling for an enriching and rewarding experience.

At our Stewart House Concert each of the TCoSS’s perform an individual item, the K-2 students combine for an item and the 3-6 students combine for an item. This year the concert will be held at Tweed Heads Civic Centre on Tuesday 2nd July commencing at 6pm. Students are asked to meet the teachers inside the foyer at 5pm.

Costumes

This year, the students will be doing an around the world theme. The students are therefore asked to wear either of the following items:

black jeans, black tights, black track pants or black shorts

Students are asked not to wear skirts. The school will be providing white t-shirts and any accessories that will be needed.

Bus Behaviour

There have been reports from the bus company that some students are behaving inappropriately on the afternoon bus run. If I could please ask families that have children that catch the bus to remind their child/ren about behaving appropriately and safely while they are travelling.

Guidelines for managing school student behaviour on buses document can be found at: https://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/news-and-events/reports-and-publications/guidelines-for-managing-school-student-behaviour-on-buses. This Code of Conduct outlines the responsibilities for students, bus drivers,

operators, school Principals and parents/guardians. I have attached page 5 for your reference as it specifically outlines behaviour expectations for students. It is important we all work together to ensure every student behaves respectfully and travels safely. Thank you for your support.

Choral Speaking

Mrs Oakes has been working very hard to ensure the students are ready to perform at the Murwillumbah Eisteddfod in Choral Speaking next week. Students in 3-6 will be performing next Tuesday and K-2 on Wednesday. Good luck to everyone involved!

Les Peterkin

Students across K-6 have been working extremely hard in creating their artwork for the 23

rd Annual Les Peterkin Portrait Prize for

Children. The theme this year is ‘Myself At My Favourite Place’.

In 2018 the Les Peterkin Portrait Prize received almost 3,000 entries from 34 primary schools in the Tweed/Ballina area. It’s an excellent way for students and schools to display their creativity, receive recognition for achievement in the arts, and participate in an exciting creative arts event. A selection of the best work will be exhibited at the Tweed Regional Gallery from Friday 27 September – Sunday 17 November 2019.

Athletics

Mrs Kane has been working with each class over the past week teaching all students the correct technique required to complete field events. This will ensure students are confident in their ability ready for next term’s Athletics Carnival.

Annual Report

The 2018 Annual Report has been completed and is available electronically on the school website. If you are interested in viewing this and require a hard copy, please see the office staff.

EGGS FOR SALE

Free Range Eggs for sale at the office at $4.00 per dozen.

YEAR 5 AND 6 GET A GRIP ON TECHNOLOGY

We have learnt amazing things this term while being engaged in our S.T.E.M. journey.

In the first half of the term we did robotics. In the second half of the term we had the opportunity to learn about and experiment with Touch Cast Studio which is a film making app.

The children are currently working in small groups to create a short movie about sustainability at Crystal Creek School.

They have to consider timing, light, sound, scripts, collaboration and content to be successful in their project.

We feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity through the S.T.E.M. share program to experience this amazing technology.
