Waiting period Basic LifeLink® and Enhanced Critical Illness are living benefits. This means the insured person must survive the onset of the critical illness for a period of 30 days (or as specified in each covered illness) before the benefit is paid. At the end of this 30-day period, the insured person must still meet the definition of the critical illness as outlined in your group contract. Pre-existing illnesses Pre-existing illnesses are any illnesses which the employee, spouse or dependant has received medical treatment, consultation, care or services (including diagnostic measures) and/or for which he or she has been prescribed medication during the 24 months immediately prior to the effective date of coverage. The benefit is not payable as a result of any pre-existing illness unless the critical illness commences after 24 consecutive months of coverage. This clause does not apply to a child born while family coverage is in effect. Medical underwriting is required only for late applicants.
