CUPCAKE STALL SUCCESS

Crescent Head Public School has a long and respected tradition of donating to charity, especially local charities. Our 5C culture thrives on contributing, caring and cooperating. This month shows just how caring our students and families are. Last week we began our Koala Cupcake day. A huge thank you goes to Stage One for the delicious cakes and slices which were sold at recess and lunch and raised $254.00 for the Koala Hospital in Port Macquarie. Thank you to all who donated cakes and made our fundraiser a great success. Stage 2 let’s see what you can do this Wednesday!

DANCE FESTIVAL

Last week students from Stages 2 and 3 participated in the Lower North Coast Dance Festival with their items ‘School Yard Jungle’ and ‘Hoist the Colours’. Both groups performed together on Monday evening and received rave reviews. Stage 3’s ‘Hoist the Colours’ featured again beautifully in the Showcase evening on Thursday. All students in both items performed spectacularly!

A big thanks to the parents and carers who assisted with transport as their support was a crucial component of the success of the event. We are extremely proud of the representation of our school. Well done to all involved and a very big thank you to Miss Wickham, Mrs Munday and Luke Dockrill for their time and commitment to our students.

GIVE ME 5 FOR KIDS

Until the end of term we will be collecting for Give Me Five for Kids. This year the money raised will go to the children's ward at Kempsey Hospital, a special place for many of us. There are containers in each classroom and we are encouraging students, teachers and families to throw their loose change into them. So have a search in the bottom of your purses and down the sofa for those coins.

WRAP WITH LOVE

As the weather gets colder we think about rugging up and staying warm. Many people are not as fortunate as we are. The Wrap with Love charity is about knitting 25cm acrylic wool squares that get sewn together to make blankets which are sent to people less fortunate than us or people who have experienced a natural disaster. Each year we proudly support this charity by knitting squares or donating balls of 8 ply acrylic wool. If you are able to knit a square or two please see Mrs V for the instructions. If knitting is not your thing then could you please send a ball of wool into the Library, which will be passed onto the knitters. Mrs Vermeulen is happy to help students with their knitting during lunchtimes on Tuesday and Wednesdays. Don't hesitate to contact Mrs V about any of the charities we are supporting this term.

GLASSHOUSE PERFORMANCE – STAGE 1 JOSEPHINE WANTS TO DANCE TUESDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER

Josephine is a kangaroo – who loves to dance. When a ballet troupe comes to Shaggy Gully Josephine learns that there is another way to dance – ballet. Josephine sneaks into town to watch the dancers rehearse. Then she goes home and practices until she knows the dance by heart. When the ballet company’s prima ballerina twists her ankle and the understudy has a splinter in her toe, Josephine is called upon to help save the day. Can she do it, and more importantly, does it matter that she's a kangaroo? This uplifting, humorous tale is a celebration of passion, tenacity and individuality based on the book by Jackie French and Bruce Whatley. Years K-2 has an opportunity to attend this fantastic performing and creative arts opportunity. Please return note and payment to secure your place for this fabulous opportunity.

____________________________ Child’s/children’s Name & Class has/have permission to attend Josephine Wants to Dance. I have enclosed $26 for the bus and performance entry. ______________________ Signed by Parent/Carer & Dated

CUPCAKE STALL THIS WEDNESDAY 27TH JUNE – YEARS 3-4

This Wednesday Stage 2 will be holding a cake stall to raise money for injured koalas that our school sponsors from the Koala Hospital at Port Macquarie. The koalas that we sponsor are all from our local area and have been found injured or sick. We ask that parents of Years 3-4 students contribute to this fundraiser with a donation of slice, cupcakes or biscuits to be sold on Wednesday to raise money for this worthy cause. We also ask donated baked goods do not contain nuts or nut products i.e peanut butter or nutella. We appreciate your support for this fundraising event.

REPORTS GOING HOME NEXT MONDAY

Next Monday Semester 1 Reports will be sent home for all students. These reports are the result of over a month’s worth of assessment, observation, data analysis, writing and proof reading. These reports will show the academic and social/ emotional development of students and how this compares to syllabus expectations. This time, as we are focusing on attendance for our students, we will be adding more information around this on our reports. In addition to showing how many whole days and partial days, we are also able to report on how many minutes the partial attendances add up to. This goes towards showing the cumulative effect of many instances of children missing significant amounts of learning time due to late arrivals or early departures.

2019 PRESCHOOL INFORMATION SESSION

A 2019 Kindergarten information session will be held at the Crescent Head Community Preschool next Tuesday 3rd July at 3.30pm.

GEARING UP FOR MUSIC FESTIVAL

Mr Dickinson and Mrs Maynard have been busy preparing our drum group, choir and rock band for this year’s Macleay Public Schools’ Music Festival. This will again prove a wonderful opportunity for these students to perform to a very large audience at Melville High School on the 6th of August. The massed choir will be performing 6 songs with students from 15 different schools. Our drummers have been learning a special call and response piece to be performed with their high school and primary school peers. Mr D has been putting the finishing touches to the rock band song which, even at this stage sounds quite impressive with keyboards, guitars, drums, flutes and possibly a trumpet accompanying the singers.
