Brown’s unconventional path to business and personal success taught him that winning in business and in life requires anything but conventional thinking. He is passionate about helping people expand their vision, develop their potential, and grow their results. And, as the father of an autistic child, he knows first-hand how the principles of true success reach beyond the boardroom and into the lives of real people facing the challenges of everyday life.
1:45-3:00 p.m. Workshop I Current Underwriting Issues (Lessons Learned From the Georgia Banking Crisis) Steve H. Powell, CPA, CFE, CEM, Steve H. Powell & Company, Statesboro, GA
The most recent recession claimed approximately 540 banks across the country. With 92 failures representing about 17 percent of the total, Georgia led the nation in the number of banks to fail. Steve Powell will review the causes and circumstances that led to the worst commercial banking disaster in this modern economic time. What are the lessons taken away from that crisis, and how can we try to avoid the pitfalls that led to the downfall of so many banks? Are our underwriting processes and lending practices prepared to meet a challenge like this?
Workshop II High Volatility Commercial Real Estate (HVCR): Definition, Exposure, Capital Concerns & Basel III Issues Gary J. Young, CEO, Young & Associates, Kent, OH
Confusion remains on High Volatility Commercial Real Estate (HVCRE). In this breakout session, Young will delve into the specifics and provide examples of how to determine if a loan is HVCRE. Young will explore the definition of “Borrower Contributed Cash,” as well as the impact on capital and loan pricing. He will include the jointly issued FAQs by the regulators in April 2015. Young will spend the remaining time reviewing other confusing Basel III issues and contingency planning.
