New ideas: concepts, models and theoriesThere are three types of idea which are referred to quite regularly in academic study. These

    are concept, model and theory.

Concept a wordorphrase commonly used by writers and analysts of a particular field toexpress an idea they may have about that field. The meanings of words and phrases used asconcepts are often taken for granted if they have an everyday use. However, their use asconcepts means that they have gained a veryprecise and specific meaning as a result ofdiscussion and agreement among groups of people who study that field. This agreed meaningmay be very different from most people's everyday interpretations.

Model a simulation or image used or constructed by a writer or theorist to provide us witha simplified description of a real world entity or idea such as the transformation processmodel of work we showed you which the writer/theorist is trying to explain. Models can bepresented in the form of a verbal description, a diagram, or sometimes as aphysicalconstruction.

Theory aproposed explanation of events and why they happen, developed by theorists and

writers. Theories almost always involve the use of concepts and models. Academics, andthose in academic study, often examine other people's theories, which they may supportorcontest, depending on their agreement with the logic of the argument, or on the evidencethat they themselves have found in the situation under consideration.

Creativity is one thing, implementing is anotherCreativity is one thing, implementing is another

Any idea, concept ora model being thrown up during discussions usually

passes through several levels of filters, hence it is imperative to the

person bringing out an idea / concept to thoroughly understand it before

the implementation. Implementation by wrong method / person / time can

also kill the idea or concept. But it does not mean that all new ideas orconcepts cannot be implemented.

I'm not that sort of personI'm not that sort of person

Every person is born with a Right and Left Brain. The Creativity ofa

person is never reduced during the working life. However when a person

makes this statement, he / she is simply not thinking in the direction

required. A good facilitator can also bring out excellent ideas and

concepts from such persons merely by the method of prodding and

    suggestions at the right time.
