Head of Faculty Welcome

There is a reason why we all remember the best times of our lives with a

song, why films still attract so many audiences, why the gaming industry

is bursting with storylines, characters, audio and visual stimulus that

entertain huge audiences worldwide. The Creative and Performing Arts

capture what we love, and often directs what we do as humans when we

want to celebrate life. The late Oliver Sacks stated it best; “Every act of

perception is to some degree an act of creation, and every act of memory is

to some degree an act of imagination.”

Creative and Performing Arts allow us to communicate the best of

ourselves, and in the best times of our lives, we communicate with our

whole selves. A whole school Mass at Stannies is an example of what I speak

of here; a community gathering of unbridled joy; raising our voices as one

with passion and sharing in the magic of song and music. Our artistic nature

is unique because it is nurtured in an environment of strength, tradition and

spirituality. Our artists use interpersonal skills (influence) to direct the eye

of peers, to give ‘student voice’ to school events and to learn more about

individuals who represent the College.

The Creative Arts are a powerful way for students to learn the necessary

building blocks for a life of effective communication. It empowers boys and

enables them to develop self-confidence, a creative imagination, empathy

and maturity in interpersonal skills. These are fantastic skills that they can

carry through the years and will use in so many scenarios and phases of

their lives.

I invite you all to engage and share in the Creative Arts life at Stannies.

DramaDrama encourages students to collaborate in creative processes and to perform with and for their peers.  Drama techniques such as improvisation and role play help students to think, act and communicate using empathy and critical thinking.

Drama can also be used to introduce new concepts, scaffold complex learning and reinforce complex concepts and language development.

Drama can engage students in real life and help multimedia knowledge, game technology and Artificial Intelligence technologies develop more realistic simulations so that the challenges of the 21st Century can be met and embraced.

Co Curricular activities:

Both the College musical and annual drama production are produced collaboratively with MacKillop College.

College Musical. The musical for 2020 was Hairspray and though COVID restrictions prevented the production form being available to a general audience, students and staff still rehearsed and worked hard behind the scenes. This is a great tribute to the tenacity and resilience of all involved. Previous musicals have included Jesus Christ Superstar, We Will Rock You, Footloose, West Side Story, The Addams Family, The Buddy Holly Story, Sweeney Todd, Grease, Godspell and Oliver!

Annual drama production.  Previous drama productions have included A Christmas Carol, 12 Angry Men, Lord of the Flies, Blood Brothers, Journey’s End, Julius Caesar, Our Town, Only an Orphan Girl and Living with Lady Macbeth.
