CREATE A PUZZLEIN PuzzleView PLUS

Goal: To create a puzzle in PuzzleView Plus

The steps show how to create a crossword puzzle for Big Ideas Math®, Blue Level (Grade 8), Chapter 2.

Start the PuzzleView Plus software.

Choose the Create a new puzzle option to launch the New Puzzle Wizard.

Name your puzzle. Choose the puzzle type and grid size.

Type “Chapter 2 Crossword Puzzle”. Choose puzzle type Crossword and grid size 30 × 20 (30 words max.). Then click Next.

Select or create a word list for the puzzle.

Choose the word list Big Ideas Math Blue (Grade 8). Then click Next.

Select one or more groups of words.

Select Chapter 2. Then click Next.

Note: In this window, the fi le path shown indicates the location of the folders and fi les in the upper window. This path may be different at your school.

Click here to clear all selected groups of words.

Click here to select all groups of words shown.

Select the number of words for your puzzle.

Select all the words.

Click Finish to create the puzzle. You have just created a crossword puzzle for Blue Level (Grade 8), Chapter 2.

Save your puzzle to the Puzzles (default) folder or create a new folder to store your puzzles. Type a fi le name for your puzzle. Click Save.

On Your Own: Follow the steps to create a new puzzle. • Start the PuzzleView Plus software. • Build a new cryptogram puzzle for Chapter 2 of Big Ideas Math®, Blue Level (Grade 8). • Select all eleven words to be in the cryptogram. • Save your puzzle and exit the software.

PLAY A PUZZLE IN PuzzleView PLUS

Goal: To play a puzzle in PuzzleView Player

The steps show how to play a crossword puzzle for Big Ideas Math®, Blue Level (Grade 8), Chapter 2.

Before you begin, make sure that you have followed the steps in the Create a Puzzle document from Big Ideas Learning® to create a puzzle.

Start the PuzzleView Player software.

A welcome screen listing puzzles that have been created will appear.

Choose a puzzle to play and click Open.

Enter student’s name and class. Then click OK.

Note: In this window, the fi le path shown indicates the location of the folders and fi les in the lower window. This path may be different at your school.

BIG IDEAS MATH®


In the PuzzleView Player window, the current solution space and clue are highlighted. Type your answer on the keyboard. When the solution entered is correct, a green check will appear next to the clue.

Students who are struggling to fi nd a solution can click on the Solve menu and have the computer fi ll in a letter, a word, or the whole puzzle.

Complete the crossword puzzle. Use the clues to help identify the words.

This icon gives the instructions for the puzzle.

The bottom bar shows the time spent solving the puzzle and the number of words answered.

After solving the crossword puzzle, view or print the results.

On Your Own: Follow the steps to play a puzzle. • Start the PuzzleView Player software. • Open the cryptogram you created for Blue Level (Grade 8), Chapter 2 in the Create a Puzzle document from Big Ideas Learning®. • Complete the puzzle and print the results.

The Results Summary includes the percent correct, completion time, and the number of words and letters solved by the computer and the student.
