    CRITICAL REASONING

    When we say reach the conclusion, adopt this process. Add the assum pt ion to the facts given in the

    argument . If you reach the same conc lusion as stated in the argument , then you have made the r ight on e

    else it is theincorrectone.

    In reasoning terminology, label the argument as the type where a causal relationship has been turned into a causeand affect one

    Weaken the argument: challenge the assumption

    Strengthen the argument: add weight to the assumption.

    The answer you select must follow from the information in the stimulus. But be careful: even if an answer choice must

    be true according to the stimulus, if it fails to capture the main point it cannot be correct. This is the central truth of

    Summary Writing questions: The correct answer must pass the Fact Test (that is it consist of facts mentioned in the

    paragraph), but with the additional criterion that the correct answer choice must capture the authors point.

    Two types of answers typically appear in Summary Writing questions. Both are incorrect:

    1. Answers that are true but do not encapsulate the authors point.

    2. Answers that repeat premises of the argument.

    Once again, the important points that you need to keep in your mind while solving these questions are:1. Identify the subject of the paragraph provided.

    2. Identify what the author says with respect to the subject.

    3. Do the above two in your words

    4. Co-relate with answer options

    Para Completion:

    Well, the one thing we have done for sure is use confusing language for our rules. All we want to say is that continue

    the last thought of the author keeping in mind the overall idea of the passage.

    Do not do the fo l lowing:

    Do not get stuck on words.

    Do not get stuck on the last line. The last line is vastly different from the last thought. Para-completion in a way is

    thought completion.

    There are the following things that you need to keep in mind while answering Para-completion questions:1. Identify the subject of the paragraph provided and try to summarize it in your own words identify what is

    happening in the paragraph.

    2. Identify the thread of thought that the author of the paragraph leaves us at.

    3. Continue the thread of thought and not particular words or phrases.

    4. Last but not the least, avoid extreme answer choices.
