Look who has come to townrecently and no, I dont meanSanta Claus. If you do a littleresearch, youll find that a lotof interesting people have come

to Florida recently, and not justfor a visit. A lot of high-profileAmericans have made themove in recent years, drawn bythe tax benefits as much as theluxurious and picturesque realestate that we are known for.

My point is, some of thewealthiest people in the countryconsider Florida a good placeto call home. According toForbes magazines 2009 list ofthe 400 wealthiest Americans, the number of financial elitewho live in our state has tripledsince 2001. This may not seemlike that big a deal when youconsider that only 27 of those400 lived in Florida in 2009, but

I think the trend is significantnonetheless. Florida may neverbe the cultural money magnetthat New York and Californiaare, but the fact that its appeal

is growing is undeniable. The folks Im talking

about most likely are notshopping for homes in yourneighborhood. For instance, there is Tom Golisano a NewYork politician, founder of thepayroll company Paychex, andco-owner of the Buffalo Sabres who recently changed hisprimary residence to his multi-million dollar Naples home.Or take Rush Limbaugh, whohas a home in West Palm Beachand has been talking aboutmoving his primary residencefrom Manhattan to a zero-taxlocale.

Taxes seem to have a lot to

do with many of these peoplesdecisions. Florida has longbeen viewed as being an idealplace for retirees, who couldmaximize their pensions orretirement savings a largelyfixed income by not having topay taxes on that money. Withrecent tax increases nationwide such as New Yorks big taxhike on its wealthiest residents it now seems that Floridas

lack of a personal income taxis drawing more than justretirees.

Although it is unlikely thatone of the 400 richest people in

the country is going to becomeyour next-door neighbor, thistrend undoubtedly will helpto boost Floridas real estatemarket. For one thing, therichest of the rich may be thefirst to move to Florida rightnow, but they certainly wontbe the last plenty of otherfolks can benefit from nothaving to pay an income tax,so over time the trend is almostcertain to spread to the kind ofpeople who will become yournext-door neighbor... or yourbuyer, as the case may be.

Becoming a favored placefor the rich and cultured to liveis also likely to boost Floridas

coolness factor, helping themarket to recover some of theground that it has lost. Floridahomes were prime real estate afew years ago, before the market

fell. Becoming the chosen landfor the wealthiest Americanscan help to restore Floridasreputation as a luxurious localefor a first or second home.

Admittedly, the home-buying habits of the super-wealthy are hard to track the National Association ofRealtors, for instance, has noForbes 400 statistic, focusingon the closed sales amongAmericas favorite millionairesand billionaires. However, Ithink that this trend is not onlyvisible, but also justifiable. Andultimately, I think it meansonly good things for the fate ofFlorida real estate.

(ARA) - Do you sneeze and wheeze all spring long? Iso, you may be making common mistakes that keep yourom preventing spring allergies. he American College oAllergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) alerts allergysuerers to avoid these ive common mistakes:1. reating symptoms without knowing what youre allergicto.

You may think you know whats causing your springallergy symptoms, but more than two-thirds o spring allergysuerers actually have year-round allergies. An allergist, adoctor who is an expert in treating allergies and asthma, canperorm tests to pinpoint the cause o your suering andthen ind the right treatment to stop it.2. Spending blindly on over-the-counter medications.

here are tons o allergy medications available at thestore, some o which can be very eective. But i yourebuying new products all the time, spending a bundle and noteeling better, consult with an allergist who can discuss which

options might be best or you. Your allergist may suggestnasal spray or allergy shots, also called immunotherapy.Immunotherapy can actually cure your allergies and keep

you out o the drug store aisles or good. Immunotherapycan possibly cure your allergies and keep you out o thedrug store aisles or good, says allergist Dr. James Sublett, chair o the ACAAI Find an Allergist, Find Relie publiceducation campaign.

    3. Waiting too long to take allergy meds.Dont wait until symptoms kick in and youre already eelingbad to take allergy medication. Instead, prepare by takingmedication that has worked or you in the past just beorethe allergy season starts. Pay attention to the weather: When

winter weather turns warm, pollens and molds are released

into the air. Start treatment prior to the warm up.4. Not steering clear o your allergy triggers.Finding the right treatment is important, but its also

critical to start avoiding what you are allergic to. Forexample, i you have a pollen allergy, make sure you keep

your windows shut, take a shower when you come insideand stay indoors during mid-day when pollen counts arehighest. All o these things can make a big dierence in how

you eel. aking these actions can make a big dierence inhow you eel, says Sublett.5. Eating produce and other oods that might aggravatesniles and sneezing.

I your mouth, lips and throat get itchy and you snile andsneeze ater eating certain raw or resh ruits or other oods,

you may have oral allergy syndrome. he condition, whichaects about one third o seasonal allergy suerers, occursin people who are already allergic to pollen. heir immunesystem sees a similarity between the proteins o pollen andthose o the ood, and triggersa reaction. I you are allergicto tree pollen, or example, oods like apples, cherries, pears, apricots, kiwis, oranges, plums, almonds, hazelnutsand walnuts may bother you.Cooking or peeling the oodmay help, but you should talkto an allergist.

Improve Your Game? By Dr. Todd Wickmann, Lifestyle ChiropracticIts been called the gentlemans game, but more and more women are

joining in as well. Many schools and colleges have teams and it s consideredthe perect game or networking or negotiating important business deals. Were talking about gol, and gol courses are big business, rom buildingthem to maintaining them, as more and more players are getting into thegame!

So how can chiropractic care help you to improve your gol game? Many golfers suer f rom chronic low back pain. Back pain respondsexceptionally well to chiropractic adjustments, increasing mobility

and range o motion. Chiropractic care can help to improve posture and exibility, twocomponents o longer and more powerul drives. We become less exible with age and immobility (working at adesk job, sitting in a car driving everyday) contributes to that as well.Swinging a gol club requires collaboration on the part o many jointsrom the eet up to the hands, including ankles, knees, hips, spine, elbows and wrists. Lack of exibility contributes to many repetitivemotion injuries in the joints. Chiropractic care attempts to address, correct and prevent joint injuries. When combined with stretching and corrective exercises,

chiropractic care is a costeective, all-natural way toimprove mobility whichtranslates to consistency duringthe our - fve hours it takes toplay 18 holes.

Fancy new high-tech clubs, shoes with the right spikes and the latestgol attire do nothing to improve your

game. However, increased exibilityand mobility can certainly improve yourgol score. Just ask the pros - nearly 75%o them receive regular chiropracticcare while on tour each year.

Jery H. Blanchard, golf professionaland author o Te Geometry o Golstated, Te chiropractor is the perectchoice to evaluate, educate, treat, condition and train those who choose toplay gol.

    I Demand A Recount!Dear Florida Lotto,

I know I chose the winning numbers for Wednesdays FL Lotto drawing. But upon further review,it appears the incorrect numbers appeared on my ticket. How could this happen? The root cause of thisdilemma is the form I filled out to get my ticket. The form is very confusing. I thought I was choosing oneset of numbers, (the winning numbers), when in reality I chose a completely different set of numbers. Thenumbers and boxes on the form are so close together, its impossible to determine which box to fill in forwhich number.

I checked with at least 3,000 other people, and they all had the exact same problem. Im sure if you reviewthe form I filled out, it willbecome very clear that Imentitled to the money fromWednesdays drawing.

    Please reply with the

date, time, and location, for me to collect thewinnings due me.Sincerely,

    John Smithm, BonitaSprings

Rock Your Walls With Some Creativity

Anna Mt T!Once a year, thousands of Floridians stand at the

state line and toss dead fish into Alabama.

Its the annual Mullet Toss hosted by

    Flora-Bama Beach Bar in Pensacola.

Its just a silly excuse for a huge beach party.

The 26th Annual Mullet Toss is happening

    this year, April 24-26.

(ARA) - Walls are, arguably, the largest decorator element in your home. Manyof us, however, rarely venture beyond using them as background for our furnitureand accessories. With a little courage and creativity, walls can be turned into a bolddesign statement in your home. And you dont need the advice of a designer or thebudget of a home-improvement show to look at your walls in a whole new light.

Wall murals continue to be a favorite decorating tool of interior designersand homeowners alike, and its easy to see why. Few wall treatments make asdefinitive a statement as a mural, and thanks to modern technology wallpapermurals are easier than ever to install and maintain. They fit in virtually every roomsetting; in fact, the hottest way to use murals is to put one on the ceiling. Youll

find thousands of designs on Web sites like www.MuralsYourWay.com. For a fewhundred dollars you can choose from an array of themes - travel, sports, natureand more - or have your own custom mural created from a favorite photograph.

Why Have a Home Inspection? For most individuals, buying a home is not only oneo the most signifcant decisions they will make, but it isalso one o their largest purchases. Tereore, it makesgood fnancial sense or the prudent purchaser to ensurethat the home he or she wants to purchase is in goodcondition, especially since most purchasers have concerns, questions or even doubts about the property condition.

Purchasers can obtain valuable inormation through thehome inspection process. In addition to a home inspection, purchasers may elect, as applicable, and dependingupon their contract terms, to have additional propertyinspections made or the ollowing: radon, mold, water, septic, lead-based paint, termite, swimming pool and spa,

wind mitigation, and Chinese drywall.Prior to executing a purchase contract or a property, it

is critical that purchasers ascertain their inspection rightsunder the contract. Te contract in and o itsel, withoutspecial addenda, may not aord the purchaser the right toconduct all o the inspections he or she may want to haveperormed. Te contract will normally identiy the scopeo what may be inspected, who may inspect, time rames tocomplete inspections, and the sellers obligation, i any, toremedy problems. Purchasers needing legal assistance in thisregard should seek the advise o legal counsel beore signingthe contract. No one wants to make a costly mistake.

In the event the home inspection report identifes theneed or major and/or minor repairs, depending upon thepurchasers contract terms, the purchaser may be able to (i)

require the seller to correct the defciencies prior to c losing,(ii) obtain a reduction and/or credit against the purchaseprice by the amount o the cost o the repairs, or (iii)terminate the purchase contract.

An additional beneft o a home inspection, is that thehome inspection report usually provides helpul inormation(i) to the purchaser to acquaint them with the home, such

as identifying the location of shut o valves, pump switches, heating and cooling flters and breaker panels, and (ii)inormation about maintaining various aspects o the homeand its systems. Purchasers present at the time o inspectionalso enjoy the beneft o being able to ask questions andeducate themselves on how things work around thehome. Te inspector may also inorm them o matters notmentioned in the report that they may want to monitor.

Home inspections are not just or purchasers. Sellersmay elect to have a home inspection prior to listing theirproperty with a real estate agent to prevent the occurrenceo any uture surprises to ensure that they have made ulldisclosure of facts materially aecting the value of thehome. What Is A Home Inspection?

A home inspection is a thorough visual assessment oa home. Te home inspection should be conducted by acertifed proessional home inspector. It usually entails a

walk-through inspection o the home, whereby the propertycondition is closely examined to evaluate the structure, construction, all major and mechanical systems and

appliances. Deects, defciencies and potential problemsare noted and recommendations or repair are made in acomprehensive report. Note, the wind mitigation inspectionis special and dierent than the other types of propertyinspections, in that it is the only inspection whereby, depending on how hurricane resistant the home is, willdetermine the amount o savings the purchaser could receive

on his or her homeowners insurance premium. Te homescomprised o signifcant hurricane construction eatures,

will generate the most savings or purchasers. Te windmitigation inspection will also inorm purchasers how toincrease the homes hurricane resistance, which is valuableinormation in and o itsel, and once undertaken, willreduce insurance premiums or the subject property.

Growing roses is easy with these simple tips (ARA) - No other flower can evoke romance in the gardenlike a rose. As Americas favorite flower, roses can be foundadorning homes in quaint coastal villages to rural farmlands, modern cities to quiet mountain retreats.

Anybody can grow roses, no matter where they live. If youcan grow grass, you can grow roses in your landscape, says

James A. Baggett, editor of Country Gardens Magazine.Whether its a prize-winning hybrid tea rose youre after,

the rich colors of shrub roses sprinkled throughout yourlandscape or containers full of blooms on your deck or patio, with a little know-how, youll grow roses that are healthy andbeautiful and that you can show off with pride.Stress buster

It can happen to anyone. Even experienced rose enthusiastshave lost a favorite rose to stressors like powdery mildew, drought, or extreme summer heat.

Now science has come to the rescue to give your plants thefitness edge they need to keep healthy and strong - no matterwhat unpredictable heat spell, cold snap or disease should hit.

Whether youre a beginner or a seasoned rose gardener, youcan enjoy success with a good plant-strengthening spray likeJaz Rose Spray, new this spring.

This easy-to use, safe and biodegradable leaf spray wasdeveloped by plant scientists and endorsed by the AmericanRose Society.

Jaz Rose Spray (www.jazsprays.com) contains jasmonate, which naturally occurs in plants and helps to keep all rosesstrong and resistant to disease, pests, excessive heat, drought, cold and salt. It works by boosting your plant s natural resistanceto environmental stressors and encouraging vigorous roots, growth and blooms.

Simple tips from the expertsRenowned landscape designer Jon Carloftis plants shrub

roses in containers. I like to give them perfect plantingconditions such as good drainage, rich soil and the additionof regular fertilizer that wont be an overdose to neighboringplants, he says.

Here are the basics for all those who are a bit rose-phobicand long for rosy success:

    * Sunlight: Provide your roses with direct sunlight for atleast five to six hours each day.

    * Soil: Roses grow best in good soil with a pH rangingfrom 6.5 to 6.8. Till to a depth of two feet - adding a goodorganic compost or peat moss for healthy drainage.

    * Location: Dont plant roses too close to shrubs or treesthat will compete for water, light and nutrients. Provide themwith adequate space for air circulation.

    * Water: Its best to water rose bushes twice a week, thoroughly at the base of the plant. Avoid late-evening wateringthat can foster powdery mildew. Instead, water early in the

morning to allowthe leaves to drybefore nightfall.

    * Fertilize:Fertilize roses everyone to two months

starting in thespring with balancedfertilizers containingnitrogen, phosphorusand potassium. Stopfertilizing in latesummer or early fallto prepare them fordormancy.

    * Drainage: Whether you growthem in containersor the ground, good drainage is necessary to prevent waterfrom pooling at the roots. Improve drainage with tilling orraised beds and containers with drainage holes.

So grab a shovel and get digging in the dirt and get set toenjoy beautiful roses. To learn more about rose care f rom theexperts and Jaz Rose Spray, visit www.jazsprays.com.

Tip: Short game stanceAll golers realize that the quickest way to lower their

handicaps is by improving their short game. Having adependable short game will allow any goler to attackdiicult hole locations because they have a great short gameto save them i they are slightly o or overly aggressive.

he average goler struggles around the green becausethey try to incorporate several styles or techniques which

actually complicate the simplicity o the stroke. he strokebegins with a short game stance seen here in photo C. hetwo sticks at the eet indicate the position o the ball and thetarget line. he goler is standing open with his eet, knees, hips and shoulders open and parallel to each other. Mostgolers have open eet and square shoulders which causes

inconsistent impacts. he goler is using a short game grip(a weak grip) and the ball is orward in the stance to allowthat point to be the bottom o arc or solid impact o theball. he stroke will be straight back on the line o playnot the stance line with sot arms and no wrist action. heno wrist action allows the ball to track more accurately andbetter control o the distances.

In photo B you can notice the golers let side is out othe way and no rotation o the blade was made due to theweak or short game grip. In photo A you will notice thatthe arms are sot and that no wrists were used to make thestroke. I know this will help you with your short game.

10 Ways To Help Your Kid Build A LifetimeEmergency Fund

One of the most effective nancial tools you cangive a child is an appreciation for an emergency fundand the advice on how to build it themselves.

An emergency fund should contain 3-6 monthsworth of money to cover living expenses its mainfocus should cover all loss of income, not just a carpayment or a refrigerator repair. With parents losing jobs and college expenses continuing to grow, theyounger you can get a person started, the better. Someadvice:

    1. Start by encouraging them to save something, nomatter how small the amount: Even if its a few centsout of an allowance, a teenager should be encouragedto set up a separate savings or checking account someplace not easy to access where they can housethe money. Interest-bearing accounts are better. Foryoung children, this is why piggy banks work so well. Its about setting goals and knowing where the moneyis.

    2. Help them develop a balance between treats andsacrifces: Financial independence requires a balanceof risk and reward. Life cant be all about buildingreserves, so tell the teen when they hit a certain levelfor the fund maybe a midpoint toward the three-month mark they can treat themselves to clothes oran electronic device. After the purchase, they go rightback to saving.

    3. Encourage them to direct all change into the

emergency fund: No matter how old or young thechild, its a good idea to take non-essential funds anddirect them toward the emergency fund. Change is agreat way to get started.

    4. Set an example: Can your child see you saving?Do you physically set aside money and talk aboutgoals for that money? Your child hears all of this. While parents cant be perfect, think about the moneybehaviors youre demonstrating in front of the kids, and try to make them positive.

    5. Keep them away from credit as long as possible:Its one thing for a teenager to use their parents creditcard while theyre still living at home. Its quite anotherwhen they get their rst taste of freedom hundreds ofmiles away. Parents may co-sign the students creditcard but keep it in the students name. That way, parents will know when nancial missteps occur; thiswill be a strong incentive for the student to keep hiscredit rating clean for the next four years.

    6. Set up money meetings: Whether the child isliving at home or off at school, it makes sense for theparent and child to have a few meetings during theyear to talk about the range of money issues the childis facing, and during that time, the emergency fundcan be up for inspection and discussion.

    7. Make them set up a real budget: Budgeting comeswith saving. Young kids can do their rst budget on

paper they can track what they spend and save over

a month or two and then establish what comfortableamounts for both will be. Teenagers and prospectivecollege students might nd it useful to have personalnance software to track their everyday expenses, though they should make sure both the computerand the passwords necessary to access their programare secure. Again, review these details during yourmoney meetings. 8. Get them interested in better-paying, safesavings vehicles: At some point, the piggy banks got

to go. An emergency fund can eventually gravitate toother interest-bearing accounts that might pay more, but only as long as the money stays liquid. If theemergency fund is healthy, its also wise for parents totalk to their children about setting up their rst IRAsto get a jump on retirement planning and considerabletax savings.

    9. Remind them that todays emergency fund maynot ft next years needs: An emergency fund willalmost always need to expand in size as the personages. More years, more expenses, more emergencies make time to convince your child that emergencyfunds should change with life circumstances.

    10. Train them to start saving tax refunds: If UncleSam kicks back a few bucks, then by all means, put itin the emergency fund or other savings vehicles.

Changes to watch for on your 2009 tax return (ARA) - More people are looking orward to tax timethis year. More than 25 tax cuts or 2009 ederal returnshave been passed to help those struggling in the downturnedeconomy. Many states are a lso oering tax breaks this year.

Virtually everyone is eligible or new tax credits, deductions and other changes on their ederal tax returns, says Jessi Dolmage, spokeswoman or 2nd Story Sotware,Inc., makers o axAC. Dolmage summarizes sevenchanges that could impact your bottom line.

he Making Work Pay credit replaced the 2008 ederalstimulus checks or 2009 and 2010. he reundable creditis worth 6.2 percent o your earned income, up to $400 orindividuals and $800 or married couples iling jointly. hecredit phases out or married couples iling jointly with amodiied adjusted gross income (MAGI) between $150,000and $190,000, and or single taxpayers whose MAGI isbetween $75,000 and $95,000.

Most taxpayers already received the credit or 2009through reduced ederal withholding starting in April 2009,resulting in an increase o $10 to $13 per paycheck. Eveni you received the credit in your paychecks, you generallystill need to claim the credit on your ederal return to makeup or the reduced withholding throughout the year. I youdont withhold ederal taxes, you must ile a return to receivethe credit.

I you received the one-time economic recoverypayment or qualiy or the Government Retiree Credit, theamount must be subtracted rom any Making Work Pay

credit amount. axACs Making Work PayCalculator (www.taxact.com/recovery-act) canestimate your credit amount.

For the 2009 tax year, your standarddeduction may also include state or local realestate taxes o up to $500 ($1,000 or marriediling jointly) and net disaster losses thatoccurred beore Jan. 1, 2010.

    he irst $2,400 o unemployment

compensation is exempt rom 2009 ederaltaxes. Any amount over $2,400, as well asseverance pay, is taxable income.

I you purchased a home in 2009, youmay qualiy or the irst-time homebuyercredit. Keep in mind the name o the credit isdeceiving, as current and past homeowners mayalso qualiy. he credit is equal to 10 percent othe purchase price, up to either $6,500 or $8,000, dependingon the purchase date, price, whether youve owned a primaryresidence and when you last owned a primary residence.Income level and iling status also aect eligibility. hoseclaiming the credit must mail their ederal returns along

with certain documentation or the home.Energy eicient improvements made in 2009 and

2010 may give homeowners up to $1,500 through theNonbusiness Energy Property Credit. Up to 30 percent othe costs or qualiying improvements to a primary residencecan be claimed.

he modiied HOPE credit, the AmericanOpportunity Credit, is equal to 100 percent o the irst$2,000 and 25 percent o the next $2,000 (totaling up to$2,500 per student) or tuition, related ees and requiredcourse materials. It applies to the irst our years o post-secondary education in 2009 and 2010. he reundablecredit phases out at MAGIs o $80,000 or individuals and$160,000 or joint ilers.

Finally, i you made a cash contribution towardsearthquake relie eorts in Haiti ater Jan. 11, 2010, andbeore March 1, 2010, you can deduct it on your 2009 or2010 return (but not both).

o ensure you get all the tax breaks you qualiy or,Dolmage recommends a do-it-yoursel tax solution like

axAC that includes a maximum reund pledge. heprogram will break down all the tax law changes in aneasy-to-understand and easy-to-ollow ormat and pointout potential deductions and credits you may overlook on

your own. axAC users can e-ile their ederal return ree,so they can have their reund in as ew as 8 days with directdeposit.
