Avanti EVO: Building on a legend

I n t r o d u c t i o n

AVANTI EVO IS THE LATEST CHAPTER IN THE STORY OF

THE AIRCRAFT WHICH REWROTE THE RULEBOOK ON

AVIATION ELEGANCE, VERSATILITY, AND PRACTICALITY.

Since its launch Avanti has blended the very best of Italian style,

peerless craftsmanship, and intelligent thinking to create an aircraft

that stands alone for its values.

Owners have enjoyed a cosseting and relaxing cabin unmatched

in its sector: roomier than aircraft whose footprint is bigger, heavier,

and vastly more costly, combined with performance that makes it

faster than some of the biggest selling jets on the market – all at a

fraction of the running costs of its direct sector jet rivals.

The newest Avanti, the remarkable EVO, builds on every element

of the aircraft’s previous strengths and successes. It’s faster, quieter,

more luxurious, more flexible, goes further, and is more efficient.

A true evolution.

The instantly recognizable lines of Avanti EVO are the product of

countless hours of research and development to create the perfect

flying machine. More than just beautiful and distinctive, Avanti EVO

represents some of the most advanced aerodynamic concepts and

manufacturing techniques in all of aviation.

The design aids its historic efficiency and speed, enhances

safety, helps the pilots throughout flight, and actively benefits its

passengers too. So not only is it a thing of remarkable beauty, it is a

thing of remarkable intelligence and capability.

The decision to fly EVO is underlined by the compelling return

on investment it can offer, with lower running costs accented by

its class-leading efficiencies and ease of maintenance, and a strong

sense of ecological responsibility.

Avanti EVO truly brings a new era of speed and minimized

environmental impact to life.

IN BUSINESS AVIATION SPEED MATTERS. IT FREES

HOURS IN YOUR DAY, CUTS TIME IN THE AIR, AND

GIVES YOU GREATER CONTROL OF YOUR WORK AND

PERSONAL LIVES.

Greater speed usually means greater cost and environmental

impact. But in the new aviation reality, balancing the two to get

benefit from one without impacting the other is a realm inhabited

only by the true experts of aerodynamics and design; Avanti EVO

stands alone.

Piaggio Aerospace’s commitment to design perfection yields

rewards in allowing speeds in the realm of jets – as you would

expect from the world’s fastest twin turboprop – but with the

reduced fuel flow and operational costs, the instant throttle

response, and the rugged usability that makes turboprops so

attractive to operators and pilots.

With a maximum speed of 402kts (463mph, 745kmh) and

improved climb performance to its ceiling of 41,000ft, Avanti EVO

is even better for you and your passengers. Turboprop power means

reduced fuel, maintenance, and training costs – so Avanti EVO is

even better for your budget.

Trusted: The power behind the throne

AVANTI EVO POWER COMES FROM THE HIGHLY-

RENOWNED AND BEST-PROVEN ENGINE FAMILY IN

AVIATION HISTORY – THE PRATT & WHITNEY PT6A.

Used worldwide in countless applications, and able to develop up

to 2000shp, in Avanti EVO the twin PT6A-66B engines are derated

well within limits to 850shp each, to ensure faultlessly efficient and

low stress operation.

A TBO of 3600 hours means low and easily calculable

maintenance costs, under a famed service and support network that

truly spans the globe, 24/7.

PT6 means peace of mind.

AVANTI HAS ALWAYS STOOD FOR RANGE AND

FLEXIBILITY. THE NEW AVANTI EVO BUILDS ON THAT

GLITTERING REPUTATION.

The addition of an optional Increased Range Configuration gives

a maximum range of a huge 1720nm (1979 miles, 3185km) and

allows transcontinental and US coast-to-coast flights with just a

single stop.

Add to this a remarkable airfield performance which brings

runways of under 1000m into profile, and its steep approach and

climb certification, and the options open to Avanti EVO pilots and

passengers are far wider than those open to airlines or jets.

It means smaller and more convenient airfields are now within

operational reach, and allows Avanti EVO pilots to take passengers

even closer to their final destination and be even more flexible in

mission planning.

Flexibility: More options, fewer fuel stops

KEY TO AVANTI EVO’S REVOLUTIONARY EFFICIENCY

IS ITS PIONEERING THREE LIFTING SURFACE

(3LS) CONFIGURATION, WHICH COMBINES WITH

INNOVATIONS FROM NOSE TO TAIL TO IMPROVE THE

AIRCRAFT’S PERFORMANCE, HANDLING, AND STABILITY.

3LS denotes a complex and harmonious relationship between the

three sets of wings, to extract the best possible performance for the

aircraft and its operators.

It means each set of wings provides positive lift, and thereby

allows each to be more efficient.

Aerodynamics: Inspired to improve, from every angle

MAIN WING

3LS allows a spectacularly efficient main

wing that is able to carry any given load

for 34% less wing surface. Less wing

surface means less drag and less weight,

and greater speed for less fuel burn.

In addition, the placement of

the engines in the reversed pusher

configuration – with the propellers behind

the wing – contributes significantly to the

Avanti EVO’s amazing abilities.

Having the propellers behind the main

wing allows laminar flow across far more

of the wing surface – a much sought-after

state where airflow is at its smoothest

and most efficient. It also means propeller

thrust is not wasted against the engine

cowling or wing surface, and goes more to

actually powering the aircraft in flight.

Another benefit comes from the

reversed orientation of the engine: by

placing its air intake at the front, airflow

through the engine is smoother and more

efficient, which helps reduce both costs

and emissions.

FRONT WING

Having a fixed front wing gives the Avanti

EVO three major advantages which

combine to give it such class-leading

efficiency and performance.

Firstly, it contributes overall lift and

so allows a more efficient main wing –

reducing weight and drag, and improving

fuel economy.

Secondly, its design configuration

ensures that in high angle-of-attack flight

the nose will always drop before a main

wing stall, greatly enhancing safety. This is

why pilots love Avanti EVO.

Lastly, it counteracts the natural

nosedown effect of lift from the main

wings, and thus frees the tailplane to be

allowed to generate positive lift, cutting

drag overall.

REAR TAILPLANE

Having a front and main wing which both

provide positive lift allows the design

of a rear tailplane which also provides

positive lift – enhancing the reduced drag

characteristics of the Avanti EVO.

In the majority of aircraft, the main wing

provides its center of lift behind the center

of gravity, which means that as lift on the

main wing increases, the nose naturally

wishes to point downwards. To counteract

this, the traditional aircraft rear wing

‘pushes’ downward to keep the nose level

– but this adds drag overall.

The Avanti EVO’s front wing negates

this traditional nosedown effect, meaning

the rear tailplane can now also contribute

‘positive’ lift, allowing a smaller lighter

main wing and reducing wasteful drag.

FROM NOSE TO TAIL AVANTI EVO CUTS ITS IMPACT

ON THE ENVIRONMENT AND TO YOUR BUDGET. OUR

ATTENTION TO DETAIL ENSURES EVERY ASPECT OF

DESIGN CONTRIBUTES TO ITS WINNING DYNAMICS.

Avanti EVO is both beautiful and distinctive, but its beauty is all

the more so when you realize it is crafted with purpose and effect

far beyond normal aircraft.

The smooth elegant lines that extend from front to back of Avanti

EVO not only make it stand out from all others, but are essential

elements to its outstanding performance too.

From the instant fast-moving air makes contact with the skin

of the aircraft, it is treated with care and finesse to allow it the

smoothest passage over the fuselage. Every seam and join is

designed and manufactured with the goal of least disturbance to the

air, to increase laminar flow over the fuselage and to reduce drag,

and even to generate lift from the body itself.

Elegant sculpted winglets give a final caress of assistance to

airflow, while magical use of engine exhaust dynamics aids the

greater whole to improve efficiency and reduce noise footprint so

Avanti EVO is an even better neighbor.

NEVER HAS THE PRESSURE ON AVIATION TO LEAD THE

WAY IN REDUCING THE IMPACT OF TRANSPORT ON THE

ENVIRONMENT BEEN SO HIGH, AND THE AVANTI EVO FLIES

THE FLAG PROUDEST OF ALL FOR ITS ADVANCES.

Its design contributes to its impressively low running costs, which

translates directly to huge fuel savings and lower emissions output

compared to aircraft in the same class, figures which become vastly more

pronounced when compared to jet rivals. Avanti EVO is a truly green

flying machine.

The advances do not stop there. From the cutting of the first metal,

Avanti EVO leads the way, and its entire green production process and

lifecycle management has been recognized by industry for its reduced

impact on the planet.

A cut in carbon footprint means Avanti EVO is a sensible and

conscientious choice for operators and buyers worldwide, and reflects the

savings on budget into the wider world too.

With Avanti EVO you can feel good about your choice in the air and on

the ground.

INNOVATIVE DESIGN AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL

IN CREATING THE MOST AERODYNAMIC AIRFRAME

BRINGS BENEFITS INSIDE AND OUT TO AVANTI EVO, SO

PASSENGERS GET AN ELEVATED EXPERIENCE IN FLIGHT.

The enormous stand-up cabin is the biggest in class, and far

roomier than very expensive jets. Impressive cabin height of 5ft 9in

(1.75m) and width of 6ft 1in (1.85m) gives space to work and relax.

Able to carry up to 8 passengers (9 in single-pilot ops), the

cavernous rear cabin volume of 375ft3 (12.88m3) means the most

space per seat in class, accentuating the appeal of Avanti EVO as a

flying office which gives occupants more time in their working day.

Inside, Avanti EVO ensures those who choose to fly intelligently

endure no compromises. The mould-breaking design not only brings

excellent performance and efficiency, but also helps slash cabin noise

levels to just 68dB, barely a normal conversation, so reducing stress.

Low noise levels ally to an ultra-low cabin altitude. Avanti EVO

retains sea-level cabin altitude all the way to 24,000ft (7315m) and

rises to no more than 6600ft (2012m) cabin altitude at the aircraft’s

41,000ft ceiling – significantly enhancing the feeling of passenger

wellbeing, so that your passengers and guests disembark fresher for

the business ahead.

Size matters: More room to work and relax

CONTROL COSTS WITH PIAGGIO AEROSPACE PARTS TOTAL CARE

Owning and operating Avanti EVO is made easier by the introduction

of the Piaggio Aerospace Parts Total Care program.

A central element of Avanti EVO lifecycle cost mitigation is the

new worldwide comprehensive Parts Support Program which allows

operators to reliably and simply predict all airframe parts cost related

to scheduled and even unscheduled events.

Piaggio Aerospace Spares Total Care applies to new factory

delivered Avanti EVO aircraft.

The program guarantees to operators a reliable, simple, and

competitive rate of only $235 per flight hour*, significantly less

than competing jet aircraft and a major aid to flight operation

budgeting and management processes.

In its basic configuration Piaggio Aerospace Parts Total Care

covers the airframe and all its systems, including avionics, hydraulics,

electrical, landing gear, brakes, flight controls, and structures.

Only expendables, consumables and interiors/cosmetics items

are excluded. Propellers and Engines are optionally available to

IN THE PURSUIT OF AERODYNAMIC PERFECTION,

PIAGGIO AEROSPACE ENSURES THAT EVERY ASPECT OF

ITS INNOVATIVE MANUFACTURING PROCESS IS FOCUSED

ON DELIVERING THE STRONGEST AND MOST EFFICIENT

AIRFRAME POSSIBLE.

The evolution of Avanti was forged in a crucible of engineering

innovation that began with the instigation of a new manufacturing

system created to help craft the legendarily smooth skin which helps

yield such incredible efficiencies. Every effort made at this stage

translates to better performance and lower operating costs.

This begins with the separate but ideal creation of airframe

skin and fuselage, which are mated to ensure absolute harmony

in construction to the exact specification. Greater effort now pays

dividends for the life of the aircraft.

Patented techniques such as pneumatic vacuum forming aid

the construction of secondary aluminium panels, which are then

connected internally to the main airframe to ensure a smooth and

flawless outer skin, bringing all the benefits of composite materials

but much easier to maintain.

The Avanti comes from a world that is as caring as the one it

enters, and our manufacturing processes have themselves been

recognized for their responsible approach to the environment.

When you fly Avanti EVO you fly with confidence that every

decision in its creation is best for the aircraft, and best for you.

Beauty begins with the first step

PIAGGIO AEROSPACE’S CREATION OF THE FINEST WAY

TO TRAVEL IS THE EXTENSION OF AN EXPERTISE AND

PHILOSOPHY WHICH DATES BACK TO THE 1800s, GIVING

PIAGGIO AEROSPACE THE LONGEST CONNECTION

WITH LUXURY AND MOVEMENT OF ANY AIRCRAFT

MANUFACTURER.

We trace our proud roots back to 1884, when patriarch and

founder Rinaldo Piaggio became renowned for advances in luxury in

the field of rail and maritime travel.

By 1915 as the world enjoyed an expansion of aviation into civil

uses, Piaggio Aerospace recruited expert aero engineers Giovanni

Pegna and Giuseppe Gabrielli, whose creative abilities led to the

earliest helicopter design and a new chapter in our history.

Since then, we have created over 50 separate and innovative

designs, many highlighting swiftness and speed.

With this spirit woven into the fabric of Piaggio Aerospace, it was

only natural that we would look to solve the problems of speed and

efficiency in the field of high-end business and personal aviation,

and the first designs for the Avanti were embarked upon in 1979.

This innovative and mould-breaking design was our focus for

more than a decade as we sought to maximize every benefit the

intelligent ‘3LS’ Three Lifting Surface design could bring, leading to

the historic first Avanti in 1990 – a true game changer for business

flying, and quickly the most distinctive of aircraft in the world.

Our expertise has seen us become sought after consultants and

manufacturing partners for companies as diverse as Pratt & Whitney,

Honeywell, and Rolls Royce. And our operators extend the world,

including military, civil, medevac, and maritime uses.

With a passion for perfection and a desire to improve at every

turn, Piaggio Aerospace continues to set higher standards.

A glorious history growing stronger

HISTORIC designs such as the sleek

P.23R – an airliner that set world

records for speed – and military

of innovative and trusted aircraft

from the stable of Piaggio Aerospace.

AVANTI IS NOT ONLY THE CHOICE OF PROFESSIONALS

AND EXPERTS, BUT ALSO OF LIFESAVERS AND

GOVERNMENTS TOO, FOR OPERATIONS WHERE ITS

RANGE, USABILITY, AND DEPENDABILITY ARE VITAL.

Avanti Special Mission aircraft are used around the world

for critical flights including air rescue, medical evacuation, air

ambulance, aerial observation, flight inspection, maritime patrol, and

Armed Forces use.

For example, in Air Ambulance use the aircraft’s ability to retain

sea level cabin altitude all the way up to 24,000ft is critical in

ensuring best care for patients, as is its inherently smooth ride.

Cabin space gives room for two patients and carers to work, and

the Lifeport stretcher system has proven time again to be remarkably

adaptable. Organ transport and incubators are also vital uses.

For important Flight Inspection missions to ensure specific ICAO/

NATO standards are adhered to it is imperative that any ‘laboratory’

aircraft is able to operate well at all altitudes, reliably and around

the clock in all conditions; Avanti is the perfect platform, commonly

exceeding 600 flight hours per year and without the need for

ground monitoring equipment.

In Surveillance use, additional equipment such as Forward Looking

Infra Red TV monitoring gives Avanti a potency cherished by

operators for military and civil use.

The same qualities which shine for everyday use are exactly the

same which make Avanti a natural choice for Forces and government

operations: reliability, adaptability, and efficiency.

Whatever the mission, Avanti EVO is now the perfect choice.

When special becomes vital
