    Course Title Operations Management

    Course I ntr oduction The course encompasses both theoretical and practical perspectives to inculcatenecessary skills among students so that they can develop competitive operationsstrategies for their chosen organizations. It covers issues of productivity anddesign of goods and services. Managing quality of operations is the major issuetoday for companies to compete in global environment. Forecasting techniqueswill be discussed in detail so as to develop operations strategy to meet future

    business requirement. Operational design such as location, layout and processstrategies will be discussed with case studies so that students can get insight intotheir application for competitive advantage. The basic quantitative techniquessuch as linear programming, simulation, queuing theory, transportation model,PERT/CPM will be applied to achieve optimization and efficient resourceutilization.

    Cour se Objectives Upon successful completion of the course, the students should be able todemonstrate the following expertise:-

    1. To comprehend the pivotal role of operations management for careergrowth and research activities in modern era.

    2. To understand the concepts, tools and analytical techniques involved inthe field.

    3. To define concepts of operations management in a practical manner.4. To understand the complexity of business problems at hand and apply

    appropriate quantitative tools to address the issues of optimization.5. To learn the use of operations research with the basic application of

    TORA software6. A special focus will be placed upon approaches and strategies to create

    competitive advantage for organizations.

    Att endance Poli cy Any student coming later than 5 minutes after the scheduled time will be markedabsent. Students are advised to observe punctuality because three absencesduring the whole semester will make them ineligible to take the finalexamination.
