COURSE DESCRIPTION FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION SPED 1- Introduction to SPED 1 Introduces the philosophical, historical, ethical and legal bases of Special education. SPED 2 - Introduction to SPED 2 Discusses the biological bases, sociological and psychological theories in Special education. SPED 3 - Psychology of Children with Special Needs Describes the developmental learning characteristics of exceptional children and categorizes these exceptionalities. SPED 4 - Observational Child Study 1 Identifies the different types of observations and how to record these observations. Gives opportunities for actual observations of overt behaviors. COURSE DESCRIPTION FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION

SPED 1- Introduction to SPED 1

Introduces the philosophical, historical, ethical and legal bases of Special education.

SPED 2 - Introduction to SPED 2

Discusses the biological bases, sociological and psychological theories in Special education.

SPED 3 - Psychology of Children with Special Needs

Describes the developmental learning characteristics of exceptional children and categorizes these exceptionalities.

SPED 4 - Observational Child Study 1

Identifies the different types of observations and how to record these observations. Gives opportunities for actual observations of overt behaviors.

SPED 5 -  Assessment of Children with Special Needs

Reports accurately and honestly results of evaluation to parents.

SPED 12 - Organization and Administration of SPED Programs

Describes procedures in organizing SPED classes.

Be aware of requirements and expectations for organized SPED classes.

SPED 13 - Behavior Management

Introduces psychological approaches in helping exceptional children such as: (1) Neuro-linguistic programming; (2) Extinction; (3) Language therapy, etc.

SPED 14 - Inclusive Education

Be aware of the philosophy and objectives of inclusive classrooms. Discusses the strategies and procedures in inclusive classroom.

SPED 15 - Curriculum for SPED

Becomes aware of the principles of curriculum development for children with physical and psychological disabilities

SPED 16 - Preparation of Instructional Materials for SPED

Gives students hands-on experiences in the preparation of materials for children with special needs.

SPED 17 - ICT and SPED

Integrates technology in teaching different learning areas in SPED.

SPED 18 - Individualized Educational Program (IEP)

Introduces functional Individualized Educational Program (IEP).

BEED Major in Pre-school Education

Pre-Elem 1 - Introduction to Pre-school Education

Presents an overview of the total pre-school education. Discusses the what, the who, the why and the how of pre-school (Historical, Biological, Psychological and Legal Bases)

Pre-Elem 2 - Characteristics of the Young Filipino

Provides students the knowledge of the characteristics of young Filipino Children in the different areas of development (Physical, Cognitive, Personal, Social and Moral)

Pre-Elem 3 - Creative Arts, Music and Drama for Young Children

Challenges, stimulates and develops creativity of the child; plans and prepares various activities of young children such as cong-stories, story plays, rhythmic arts, songs and games.

Pre-Elem 4 - Personal and Social Development

This will provide play and social living experiences among young schoolers.

Pre-Elem 5 - Language and Numeracy for Young Children

Discusses and demonstrates the various strategies in helping young children acquire language skills and number concepts.

Pre-Elem 6 - Science, Health and Nature Study

Discusses the strategies in guiding young children understand basic concepts in Science and Health and providing them experiences in nature study.

Pre-Elem 7 - Preparation of Instructional Materials

Provides students hands-on experiences in preparing developmentally appropriate materials for young children.
