Dear Parents / Carers and Friends of Bolingbroke,
Thursday 24th August will be a day I never
forget. As the Class of 2019 walked through the
courtyard to the soundtrack of „We are the
Champions‟, staff tried to allay any fears. In the
commons, envelopes were carefully pealed
opened and within minutes shrieks of delighted
filled the hall. One after another opened their
GCSE results to see how all their hard work
had paid off.
We are so proud of the Class of 2019 for all
their hard work and determination to ensure
they achieved their goals. Our parent‟s vision to become a centre of excellence became official. 92% achieve
grade 9-4 in English, 84% (9-4) in maths – this gives us 82% with English & Maths (grade 9-4). Within their results
are so many incredible individual success stories, too many to list here; please go to our website for further
information.
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all the teachers and support staff that made the Class of 2019
potential a reality. We are quite possibly going to be in the top 10% of non-selective state schools in country. It is
an achievement we are all proud of and has enabled us to launch an exceptional Sixth Form.
I‟m delighted to share with parents / carers that 65 places have been taken by our returning Bolingbroke
Academy pupils and 15 students from the area from both local independent and state schools.
Our Sixth Form leadership team:
Head of Sixth Form: Mr Speight
Deputy Director Teaching and Learning: Ms Orchin
Deputy Director Pastoral: Ms Oliver
Today Year 12 complete their third day of induction following their
superb trip to Jesus College, Oxford yesterday. The day involved a
lecture from their admissions tutor, lunch in the Great Hall followed by
an afternoon punting on the Thames. Please see page 2 for further
details.
Yesterday we welcomed the Class of 2024 into the Academy. 130 children nervously
waited on the common before being asked to enter the Academy. It is a privilege to meet
and greet every child as they arrive with a smile and handshake.
By yesterday afternoon the Class of 2024 already looked at home and this morning it was
wonderful to open their day with the tie ceremony. So many children had learnt our
Academy mantra over the summer holidays and during the induction. It was terrific to
hear them all recite in groups of 15 children.
Once all ties were given out, I greeted the Class of 2024 to say the mantra highlighting
our values loud and proud. This moment never fails to raise the hairs on the back of my
neck – an annual moment I always cherish.
Thank you for all your continued support, I look forward to welcoming the Parents/Carers of the Class of 2024
to our annual Welcome Evening on Monday 18th September at 7.30pm. This is a great opportunity to meet the
Academy leadership team and the Parents Association.

BOLINGBROKE ACADEMY SIXTH FORM OPENING
6th – 8th September 2017
We have had a great three days welcoming back the Class of 2019 and preparing them for success at
Sixth Form with our three day induction programme. On Wednesday, students found out which
Civitas groups they were in, who their Civitas tutors were and learnt what life would be like at
Bolingbroke Sixth Form. The afternoon was spent doing team-building activities including; building the
tallest free-standing balloon tower, maths challenges, articulate and dodge-ball!
On Thursday we visited Oxford. Students enjoyed a self-guided tour of the city and had to complete
various challenges along the way. After their exploration of Oxford, we had lunch at Jesus College
which was a fantastic privilege and experience. We then enjoyed a lecture from Dr Matthew Williams
on “the power of words.” Students were asked to critically think about the power of words, what
power they have, why that is and where it comes from. We finished the day with an enjoyable punt on
the river in the sunshine. It was superb to see our students trying something new and being bold.
Our final of induction has been as full on as the first two with a particular focus on academic
excellence and leadership. The Year 12 students engaged in debates about growth mindset, toured the
school and practiced leadership scenarios for interacting with pupils in the lower
school. They finished their afternoon supporting KS3
and KS4 civitas groups to earn as many house points as
possible in the Bolingbroke Academy crystal maze
challenge.
Congratulations Class of 2019 for a fantastic start to your
Sixth Form journey!

Hound YEAR 9 TRIP TO CAMBRIDGE
Ms Coyte
Year 9 got off to a fantastic start on their trip to
Cambridge this Thursday. The day started with a great
talk from four amazing speakers in Robinson college:
Ms Green, Ms Luetchford, Ms Hill and Ms Khan. The
pupils were thoroughly inspired by the subjects and
really took the opportunity to look towards starting
their GCSE foundation year with a serious and
enthusiastic attitude. The tour around inspirational and
grand buildings of Cambridge made the day extra
special, and really showed the pupils what they can aim for! Overall it was an amazing day with a fantastic
team who all worked hard together to make the start of Year 9 amazing for the class of 2022!

MUSIC AND DARMA
DRAMA AND LAMDA @ BOLINGBROKE Mr Kalorkoti
Last academic year was a huge success for Bolingbroke Academy's young actors. On top of last
February‟s musical extravaganza HAIRSPRAY, and our first-ever lower school production of BLOOD
BROTHERS in June, we had pupils excel in taking their LAMDA acting exams. The pupils took their
exams in July, boldly going to LAMDA (The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) in order to
do so. Their outstanding results have now arrived back.
Across 2016-2017, Our pupils flew through 30 LAMDA exams, spanning Grades 1-5, with a 100%
pass rate. Within this, 70% of pupils achieved a Merit or higher, whilst 20% achieved a
Distinction.
Mr Kalorkoti will be taking the next group of candidates to LAMDA, to take their upcoming exams just
before the Christmas Holidays. This will be an especially exciting exam session, as for the first time we
will have pupils taking Grade 6 and above. At this advanced level, UCAS points are awarded to pupils
in recognition of their successes. This will stand our candidates in great stead as they look toward
university applications in the not-too-distant future!
The waitlist is still open for pupils who are interested in LAMDA acting tuition, either as solo learners
or as a pair - please do get in touch with Mr Kalorkoti for further details.
We will also soon be rehearsing for our next school musical, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, with
auditions taking place after school on Friday 15th September. Audition scripts can be collected from
outside The Commons, or speak to Mr Kalorkoti, Ms Murphy or Ms Breckon for more information.
