According to the election handbook issued by Secretary of State Rebecca Vigil-Giron, write-in votes will be counted and canvassed only if the name is written in the slot pro-: vided and contains the two in- itials and last name; or the first and last name; or the first name and middle initial and last name; or the full name of the candidate. Misspellings of the above combinations that can be reasonably determined by a majority of the members of the precinc;t board to identify the declared write-in can- didate will be counted. The voting machines in Carrizozo will have only two write-in slots even though there are three declared write- in candidates. Since there are only two trustee seats to fill each voter will be allowed to vote for two candidates, whether the votes be cast by pulling the lever or by writing in a declared candidate's name. Carrizozo voters should become familiar with the voting machine and if they have any quesfions ask the precinct workers. Carrizozo voters need to also know that if the name of one write-in 'candldate is writ- ten in both slots that one vote will not be counted. The rolls of paper in the voting machine will be removed from the machine after the polls close in order for the precinct board to count the write-in votes. Carrizozo voters should also consider making their decisions as to how to cast their votes before entering the voting booth. A vote may be cast for the candidate on the ballot by pulling the lever and one vote may be written in or two votes may be written in but once both write-in slots have been opened, a voter may not change his mind and then close the slot and vote (or the candidate on the ballot by pull- ing the lever.
