Park County Fair Management Proposal Developed by the Park County 4-H Council and Montana State University Extension
The Park County 4-H Council and Montana State University 4-H Youth Development Extension Agent are submitting this proposal to manage the events and shows during the 2019 Park County Fair to the Park County Board of Commissioners.
Vision The mission of Montana State University Extension (MSUE) is to improve the lives of Montana citizens by providing unbiased, research-based education and information that integrates learning, discovery, and engagement to strengthen the social, economic, and environmental well-being of individuals, families, and communities. 4-H youth development is one of Extension’s four programming areas. Locally-based field faculty work in each area to identify, plan, and prioritize needs; create and extend resources; and evaluate programming impact.
Through the land-grant University system, 4-H reaches almost six million nationally, and 20,000 young people in Montana. 4-H empowers young people with the skills to lead for a lifetime. It is a research-based experience that includes a mentor, a hands-on project, and a meaningful leadership opportunity. Based on their interests and guided by adult mentors, youth develop their own pathway to becoming capable, connected, contributing adults.
A partnership between the Park County Fairgrounds and Parks Department and the Park County 4-H Council leverages visionary community leadership with the existing, proven 4-H framework, creating a sustainable pathway to develop a successful community-driven event at a world-class fairground. The Park County 4-H Council has set-up three internal committees to support this proposal: budget and finance, advertising, and events and activities.
MSUE 4-H Youth Development Resources Below is a list of resources and assets a Park County Fair and Parks/MSUE 4-H partnership would leverage:
- FairEntry database and event scheduling software - Qualtrics Survey Software - In-place volunteer management system with 61 adult volunteers - Established agency and organization within the community with an 82-year history - Proven event planning expertise
Budget MSUE and Park County 4-H has estimated a budget of $43,400 to fulfill the duties and tasks required to successfully operate and manage an open class and youth fair (including database management; logistics, inventory, and asset management; evaluation, communication, and marketing; and financial management). The duties do not include janitorial service, garbage removal, or facility maintenance management. RV facility management or maintenance and utility management is also not included.
